Honesty do not get the hate for Arirang. If I wasn’t a Kpop fan and back in my days when I was a RateYourMusic warrior someone could totally convince me Kpop was worth listening to if they showed me Arirang. It’s very diverse and just a great listen. A lot of different genres. And all the songs are extremely memorable.

Well, actually I think most people hate it because it appeals more to westerners, but all Kpop made today is made to appeal to westerners. And a lot of the songs on Arirang were straight up produced by westerners😰.

So I guess for this reason I kinda get the criticism. But the reason BTS became a worldwide hit, and therefore Kpop, is because of non-Korean fans. So if you want Kpop to stay appealing to Koreans only, then the non-korean fanbase would have to disappear… Or stop making Kpop so much money. Which, most of the fans criticizing it are not Korean… So it’s complicated. I agree there should be more Korean lyrics in newer Kpop but there is kind of nothing we can do since appealing to non-Koreans is what brings in the most money.
