First, I’ve heard some people are unsure about why of all things Sun Mi would ask something like “Right now am I pretty?” but from what I know, just before in the same Episode, Oh Gong told her no matter what she would be pretty in his eyes because he loves her. So, of course, she’s asking if she’s still pretty (even if the bracelet is not working) as “Do you still love me even now?” and her desperation to know breaks my heart a little..

About Oh Gong response instead, I thought he was sincere. When he answers “You’re pretty” it seems like he has to find the answer inside of him, it doesn’t come as automatic as before, on the contrary he hesitates a little. Then he’s more confident as he goes on adding “Because I love you”. This could be a way to explain this feeling to himself, to be reassured, like “Of course I find you pretty, because of the bracelet”. This is it, if he still thinks he’s under the effect of the curse.

Now, what if he’s aware, if he felt his heart wasn’t tied up anymore even for a moment, when she first asked? If, in spite of this, he still choose to answer her “Because I love you” well maybe he’s still tricking her, or maybe he just wants to give her the answer she’s so desperate to get and that would still be such a good thing, because he choose not to hurt her again.
