Shining Moon Theatre: Super Sailor Uranus Build

If we are being so frank I have no business adding/starting a new long term project. And yet, here we are in sequin fuku hell together! I'm waiting on several fabrics to restock before the great swatch wars begin, but the mock up and research phase have been going well. I'm not going for stage accurate, but as close as I can with a pretty low budget.

The cynthia rowley pattern is one I nabbed years and years ago at a joanne sale with the intent of eventually using her for a myu build. So, it's her time to shine! I didn't notice until transferring it to tracing paper but this pattern does come with a sleeve appropriate for senshi fuku as well. Also learned the technical name after a decade, a flange! Anyway, the initial changes were changing the shape of the neckline, though as assumed it is too wide and slightly too short. I'm so far not a fan of the bias strip they use for the sleeve finishing, I'll likely be changing that to a traditional facing. Apart from that and some minor seam adjustments this indeed has been a great base and I'm looking forward to sewing this up in the proper fabrics. I'll make my adjustments before draping the collar and skirt.

As mentioned, the fabrics, trim, and hardware have been sourced and ordered. Really the one thing I'm not particularly looking forward to is the petticoat, though my love for pre-cut rolls of tulle has never been deeper. Currently, I'm experimenting with ways to create the brooch. If what I've got in mind works as I hope, there will probably be a tutorial. If not, there are several other progressively more ridiculous things to try.

Teeny update, but the mock up has been cleaned and used to create my final pattern. I've been making several pepakura mock ups for the brooch to play with sizes and got to one that feels really complimentary to the proportions of the fuku. I've made peace that making a 100% stage accurate brooch is just outside my means, but I think this one will come out very close for significantly less. It's been a lot of math and measurements for yardage and trims, so not very exciting to look at. Hoping to get materials sometime this month.

Sorry for the jumpscare everyone…

I’ve had this cosplay since 2018, so it was first and oldest cosplay (if we don’t count my Lapis Lazuli Halloween costume from when I didn’t know what cosplay was). I still haven’t everything except for the pants and shoes I originally wore with it, however, I no longer need a wig because my hairstyle is so similar to his now.

I haven’t seen the show since 2018 and admittedly I somehow blocked out the majority of the time from when I had seen it a couple months into 2019 before remembering what had happened. I just had the urge to cosplay him and finally did it again.

It’ll be VBS Kaito, Magical Mirai 2019 Kaito (I’m gonna be selling those two soon), and Rei Ayanami. There may be a couple of others but those I haven’t worn in quite a while.
