Talking about science/animals bits I find really neat below!
Man, random thought but given birds are what survived from dinosaurs in the present day--I hope they do continue to evolve in their intelligence. I watch a ton of animal research vids. People have been decoding the language of songbirds, and the current stage of development for corvids, parrots, a bunch of great apes, and some octopi gets compared to our stone age periodically.
There's been research to see if there might have also been a similar stone age among dinosaurs when they were around. Their era lasted hundreds of millions of years after all. My impression is that if anything did exist, it hasn't been found preserved among fossils.
The dinosaurs were dominant for so long and only this one branch managed to survive the Cretaceous extinction event. Reason that happened was virtue of them being kickass generalist species able to survive on seeds and crap when everything else died + food scarcity got horrendous.
(Incidentally, reptiles got through because they could go dormant for a longass time without food until conditions improved.) (And also incidentally: generalist = highly adaptable, jack-of-all-trades species able to manage in a broad variety of conditions and environments. Specialist = highly specialized, can absolutely master a very specific set of conditions and surpass competition by tailoring itself to those conditions but is p. fucked if taken out of those conditions.)
Humans picked up the mantle as mammals/the descendants of synapsids (developed into mammals) when dinos were sauropsids (developed into reptiles/birds) fell. It would feel kinda poetic if there came a point where the lineages were able to really communicate back and forth with each other. Whatever the future holds for mammals, knowing there are other intelligent species from historically major lines of life continuing to develop is really cool.
Like damn. Octopi would be neat as fuck too if they can sort their lifespans out. Life started in the oceans after all so they're even more ancient. And we've already spotted that there are places octopi will straight up make war against each other. Chimps do too.
It feels a little like we're seeing the early stages of fellow species ascending.
Writing-related.
Have been following a situation lately that gives me a strong impression that there are a lot of teens and preteens in particular who are craving romance stories and/or otomes but don't have many options that are both quality and age-appropriate. I kind of want to ask audiences in that age range what they'd like to see. No bashing other audience members, no treating it like a competition. Just an open invitation to share what they'd like to see in love stories that would make them sincerely happy.
There are issues with shipping drama risks (worse when the demographic is dealing with bullshit hormones tbf), not being able to separate fiction and reality in healthy ways, plus ipad kids have their own share of issues. There are also risks because adults have different ideas about what is or isn't age appropriate. So like... I see how this lack of stories would've happened, but it seems like it is still a problem. Offering nothing just results in teens with no idea how to manage emotions on the subject acting out.
This feels like something that would be better asked with an anonymous answers option, but idk where or how.
And tbh it's also kind of a mess because there's a trend of adults barging in on stories for younger audiences at times and completely taking over their online presence in sketchy ways.
I don't know how all this could be addressed at once, or even most of it tbh. But I wish there was a reasonable way to just ask the the audience what they'd like in their stories/what stories they don't feel able to find right now.
booboo

Typical Disney-style story of a kingdom with an anxious new ruler whose inherited chief advisor has a goatee, dresses in black and red, smirks a lot and keeps a snake as a pet.
Every single villanous plot to overthrow the kind and âweakâ ruler fail because the advisor is 110% loyal but his vibes make all the baddies assume heâll help out in the insidious coup plan so they recruit him, and he absolutely delights in puppeteering wannabe autocrats into digging their own graves. He doesnât want to rule, heâs having way too much fun being a villain honey trap.
oh artisanal. Wow that is bad kerning.

itâs not weird to find fanfiction from 2021, or 2017, or 2014 that youâve never read and actually taking your time to read it.
itâs not weird to love it and comment and leave kudos because the author will probably still see it someday and it will make them happy.
itâs not weird to like said authorâs work so much that you want to go look for other fics from them.
itâs not weird to go through the authors profile and look for other fics from the ships you like (or maybe some that youâll give a chance because you liked the author) and maybe bookmark them for later.
itâs not weird to read these other fics and like them too and comment on them because you actually like them and you want to let the author know.
itâs not weird to read fanfiction from 5, or 8, or 10 years ago and actually enjoy and engage with it because itâs perfectly normal to relate to something thatâs less than a decade old!
letâs stop treating fanfiction like theyâre instagram posts that stop being interesting in 24 hours! fanfiction is NOT social media, fanfiction is art!!! and art doesnât get old in one day, one year, or even a decade!
read fanfiction! write fanfiction! comment on fanfiction! letâs not let fanculture die people!!!!!
Not only is it not weird, it is ACTIVELY ENCOURAGED. Authors LOVE IT when people do this!!! Its not "weird" and its not "neutral" -- its a fucking DELIGHT. Feel very absolutely free to read though an author's entire back catalogue, leaving kudos and/or comments along the way; we absolutely freaking love when someone does this. There is nothing more joyful than getting a comment notification for an old fic. It will make our day, I promise.
There needs to be a special word for the warm, gratifying feeling that you get when you watch someone kudos everything you've ever written in a specific fandom in backwards order over 3 days. and that word needs a modifier to express the inexpressible joy when they start leaving comments on every story no matter how old it is.
it's meaningful that two out of three real visions tyranny has seen in her knife are of mothers caring for their young children. it got overshadowed by the yaoi knife jokes. we see ulbid's wife making food for their daughters, we see marienna tired and saying "esme?" and then we see, in episode 30, that the connection tyranny has to the knife and to kattigan allows her to fully understand what happened to his family: a mother and child dying at the hands of a terrifying man.
her knife exists to punish those who hurt people who love them. it is an artifact that is just like tyranny herself, very old and very new.
"she is here to save that which can be saved. and if she cannot save it, she is here to punish those that destroy it."
tyranny was shaped by the shadow of suffering and has something inside of her far older than her physical form that deeply understands the pain that kattigan has suffered. the pain of losing his family.
we do not know what azgra did to the demon queen but dead mothers appear in tyranny's knife.
sensing a pattern

Iâm not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but you literally do not have to be a good writer to write and post fan fiction. Yes you will naturally get better at writing and finding your voice the more you do it but you do not have to be or become a professional level writer to enjoy writing and sharing fics. Itâs common to hear people praise fic writers by saying their work is better than published books, and while I think this comes from a good place, thatâs not the norm or expectation. There is also a sentiment that fic writing is âgood practiceâ for becoming a better writer or doing something else later, but if fic is the only creative writing you ever do that is literally okay. Your technical skill does not mean you cannot have fun and build community with your writing, or that other people cannot love and find meaning in your work.
Another paralives character and build!
