Summary: Keeping the relationship between you and Donna private was not a problem, but when Mike mixed into it by an accident and Harvey due to him did too, things start to go down the hill.
Keeping your relationship with Donna private wasnβt meant to be complicated. You werenβt ashamedβfar from itβbut coming out, especially with Harvey as your older brother, was a whole different level of intimidating. He was protective, loud, and didnβt exactly keep his emotions in check. So you and Donna agreed to keep things quiet for now, at least until you were ready.
But Mike Ross was making things difficult.
It wasnβt that Mike was a bad guy. He was justβ¦ persistent. And while Donna had complete trust in you, watching Mike openly flirt with you in the middle of Pearson Hardman wasnβt exactly her favorite way to spend the workday.
βCome on, I could show you a great time,β Mike grinned, leaning on your desk.
You gave him an amused look. βMike, Iβm busy.β
βBusy later?β he tried, flashing that boyish charm.
Across the room, Donna was watching with an unreadable expression. You knew she wasnβt the jealous type, but you also knew she had a limit. And this? This was getting close.
Unfortunately for Mike, someone else had been watching too.
And unlike Donna, he was the jealous typeβat least when it came to you.
βRoss! In my office. Now,β Harveyβs voice cut through the office, sharp and commanding.
Mike blinked, glancing between you and Harvey before giving you a sheepish grin. βSaved by the big brother, huh?β
You shook your head as he walked off, but the feeling of unease didnβt fade.
And when Harvey wasnβt subtle, it usually meant someone was getting ripped apart.
Inside his office, Mike sat down hesitantly. βSo, uhβ¦ whatβs up?β
Harvey didnβt sit. He just leveled Mike with a look so intense that the younger lawyer actually shifted in his chair.
βLetβs get one thing straight,β Harvey said, voice low and firm. βYou do not flirt with my sister.β
Mike blinked. βIβwhat?β
βDonβt play dumb, Ross. You think I donβt see it? The constant flirting, the lingering looksββ
Mike held up his hands. βOkay, first of all, I didnβt know it was a crime to flirt. And second of all, sheβs an adult, Harvey. If she had a problem with it, sheβd tell me.β
Harveyβs jaw clenched. βShe doesnβt need to tell you because I am telling you. You keep your little Blondie charm away from her. Got it?β
Mike exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. βJesus, okay. Message received.β
βGood. Now get out of my office.β
It wasnβt long before Harvey was standing in front of your desk now, arms crossed, expression unreadable.
βYou wanna tell me why you didnβt tell me?β he asked.
You frowned. βTell you what?β
βThat Mikeβs been harassing you.β
You sighed. βItβs not harassment, Harvey. Itβs just harmless flirting. I can handle it.β
Harvey scoffed. βYeah, well, I handled it for you.β
You groaned. βWhat did you do?β
βJust gave him a friendly warning.β
βHarvey,β you started, voice tense.
βDonβt βHarveyβ me,β he snapped. βYouβre my little sister. You really think Iβd just stand by and watch some guy treat you like a game?β
The stress of the entire situation was building, your mind spinning with a million different emotions. It wasnβt just about Mike. It was about Harvey, about Donna, about the fact that you werenβt ready to have this conversation with him yet.
βHarvey, just drop it, okay?β
βNo,β he shot back. βWhy the hell didnβt you come to me about this? Why didnβt youββ
Donnaβs voice cut through the tension, steady and unwavering.
You hadnβt even realized sheβd stood up from her desk, but now she was beside you, her hand reaching for yours. Without thinking, you laced your fingers together, the familiar warmth of her touch grounding you.
Harvey opened his mouth to argue, but thenβhe saw it.
His eyes flickered down to your joined hands, the way your fingers curled naturally around Donnaβs, and suddenly, everything clicked.
The secrecy. The hesitance. The reason you didnβt want to tell him.
His expression shifted from frustration to realization, then back to frustration.
βYouβve got to be kidding me,β he muttered under his breath, rubbing his face.
You swallowed hard, heart pounding. βHarveyββ
He exhaled sharply, shaking his head. βI need a drink.β
And with that, he turned and walked straight back into his office, leaving you and Donna standing there in stunned silence.
After a beat, Donna squeezed your hand. βWellβ¦ that couldβve gone worse.β
You groaned, dropping your head onto her shoulder. βCould it, though?β
She just smirked, pressing a kiss to your temple. βGive him time.β
And deep down, you knew she was right.
