I know what's my problem with Visi.
She's allowed to make mistakes, while Robert (and other characters) aren't.
Visi has the right to spy on people.
She has the right to insult, mock, and punch Robert (who was in a coma recently. Because of her).
She has the right to give up and then succeed through fraud to stay in the program.
She has the right to punch Chase (a fragile and visibly very elderly man).
She has the right to impose herself alone on a high-risk mission despite a refusal and to fail (officially), which leads to the almost death of Chase.
She has the right to have tried to kill Robert.
She has the right to lie about the Astral Pulse.
She has the right to be angry with Robert because he didn't detach her, and risk killing him by calling out the enemy.
Robert does not have the right to be angry with Visi for disobeying orders and masterfully failing the mission (which he did not give her). He does not have the right to be angry that she insults or mocks him. He does not have the right to be angry that she hits him and trashes his desk. He does not have the right to report her to Blazer.
Coupé/Sonar do not have the right to be at the bottom of the ranking even though they have not given up.
Robert does not have the right to keep his identity secret (even if he knows that revealing it puts him in danger. And he is right)
Chase does not have the right to tell Invisigal what he thinks of her.
Blonde Blazer does not have the right to fire her after the media fiasco while her friend is in a coma.
Robert does not have the right to be angry that his almost brother whom he has known since childhood is dying and that (according to him) the tool that would have given him back his career and his reason to live is in the hands of his sworn enemy who will use it to commit atrocities.
The Z-Team does not have the right to have an opinion on the management of their team and to no longer work with a person they no longer trust.
Robert does not have the right to be angry that Visi tried to kill him and almost destroyed his life.
He does not have the right to push back Visi when she forcibly kisses him.
Royd does not have the right to not trust her and to tie her up.
Robert does not have the right not to trust her after catching her lying about something important and acting shady.
(Quick mention of Robert choosing to go on a date with Blazer in ep 4 and dancing with her in ep 6. Robert doesn't see Visi's reactions but the players do and she seems obviously sad and we're supposed to feel sad for her)
Invisigal doesn't have to apologize for what she does and barely suffers consequences for her actions, and if she does, it's framed as bad.
But with the others, either the chances of obtaining Visi good ending are reduced, or others characters are feeling bad for what they did, or it's a course of action that should be corrected, or they get punished, etc...
Invisigal's redemption is the most important of the team. But redemption requires effort and accountability. If she must be forgiven at every turn, each time she does something bad or stupid, it's not redemption, it's enabling. Her victims should be able to not forgive her, and they should be able to ask for consequences for her actions.
Or what? Because she is (was?) a villain with "villain power", she can have the toddler treatment? While super-heros have the hardcore one? That's not how it works, usually it's the opposite. The villain is a villain because they made bad choices, so they have more to redeem themself. They have to work more, instead of less.
Her victim shouldn't be doing all the work in HER redemption. She should choose to work on it.
You thinks Zuko's redemption would have been this good if the Gaang babied him through it? No! It's good because he made the choice to redeem himself again and again, even when it was hard or not rewarded.
There's a whole episode where he hided his identity as a fire-bender to a village but revealed himself to save it, but the inhabitants, even the ones who like him, rejected him for it. They were hurt by the Fire Nation, but Zuko personally didn't do anything to them, he wasn't a soldier or a decision-maker. But he didn't give up on his redemption because of that.
And Katara needed time and have Zuko earn her forgiveness, for her to forgive him. SHE didn't have to suck it up bc poor guy was trying hard. NO, he hurt her, he paid the price.
When he lost himself to go back to his father's way, the show doesn't put the blame on Hiro. It's ZUKO who failed. It's deeply sad, yes, but still his fault.
Yet, he's an abused teenager, with heavy pressure to be a villain. But he's still held accountable for his actions. He doesn't get privileges or is allowed mistakes that other aren't.
Invisigal does. And that's why her redemption doesn't work
