Schönbühel Castle (Schloss Schönbühel), in Lower Austria 🇦🇹

Schönbühel Castle is a picturesque castle overlooking the Danube River in Lower Austria, Austria. Perched on a rocky hill, it is one of the most iconic landmarks of the scenic Wachau Valley.

The castle dates back to the early 12th century and was originally built as a defensive fortress to control traffic along the Danube. Over the centuries, it was expanded and transformed into an elegant noble residence while retaining its medieval character.

Schönbühel Castle has been owned by several aristocratic families and is closely linked to the rich cultural history of the Wachau region. Its striking location above the river has inspired artists, travelers, and historians for centuries.

Vidraru Dam, Romania 🇷🇴

A massive curved concrete dam hidden in the Carpathians that looks unreal, but it is pure engineering

Built in 1966 on the Arges River, it reaches 166 meters in height. Lake Vidraru stretches nearly 10 km and holds about 465 million cubic meters of water. It not only looks stunning but also generates hydroelectric power.

A 10 meter statue of Prometheus was installed here in 1965 as a symbol of energy and power.

Château de Brissac, France 🇫🇷

Château de Brissac is the tallest château in France, rising seven stories above the Loire Valley. Often called the “Giant of the Loire Valley,” it is one of the region’s most impressive historic residences.

The original fortress was built in the 11th century and later rebuilt in the 15th century by Pierre de Brézé. In the early 16th century, it was acquired by the House of Cossé-Brissac, whose descendants still own the château today.

During the French Wars of Religion, parts of the castle were damaged but were later restored into an elegant Renaissance-style residence with magnificent interiors and grand staircases.
