Despite trying his best to keep a straight face, he still felt his lips tugging slightly upwards. It's funny how he got so you used to her calling him that. The old him would have been annoyed. But look at him now, all happy just because he heard her calling for him. She just had this effect on him. It had bothered him before, the way she affected him, but lately he's been learning to accept it and actually enjoying it. It was nice, the feeling of being wanted and loved. And the felling of loving back, although he had yet to admit that. Who would have thought? Gray Fullbuster being in love.
Damn, if he could travel back and meet his old self, he'd probably laugh at him. No scratch that, he'd believe that whole thing was a lie. Gray Fullbuster didn't let anyone get closer than necessary and he sure as hell didn't do relationships. Gray Fullbuster would never act like a lovesick puppy. And yet here he was, trying to figure out how to tell the prettiest girl he knows that he wasn't as opposed to the idea of being with her than he first let her believe.
To his defense, it's not like he had much of a choice in the matter anyway. The girl wasn't one to give up after all. So yeah, it was pretty much only a matter of time until she cracked him. He'd just have to tell his younger self that they ended up with a stubborn one, blame his change on her and hope that he would accept that. Well, nevermind that. He'd be his future self and he did accept it. So there's that.
By the time Gray stopped thinking about what a conversation with his past self would go like, she had already jogged up to him, a huge smile plastered on her face. Gray looked at the girl in front of him, admiring her beauty. She was wearing her usual blue dress, brown knee-high boots. Her outfit wasn't very revealing except for the slit on her leg that he very much appreciated. Not that he would ever admit that. But despite her wearing such a modest outfit, she always managed to be alluring to him. And there was the hat. Of course, always the hat. Gray wondered why she always wore it. But who was he to judge? He barely wore anything. Besides it was pretty cute on her. Another thing he would probably never admit.
"Graysama, Juvia has been looking for you everywhere. Juvia even asked Natsu and Lucy." She had an adorbale pout on, trying to appear angry with him, which made her look even cuter. He had to hold himself back from letting out a chuckle.
"Sorry, I was just walking around."
"Yeah, why are you asking?"
"Well, Juvia knows that you only go walking around aimlessly when there's something on your mind."
She looked at him with worried eyes. The anger she had tried to show off before had disappeared immediately. Gray just stared at her for a moment. How did she know him so well? He slowly shook his head and gave her a reassuring smile.
"I'm alright Juvia, don't worry about it. Why were you looking for me anyways?"
"Oh, right. Juvia almost forgot!"
She rummaged around in her bag before pulling out a little package wrapped in blue paper. She looked at it for a moment hesitating, before holding it out towards him.
"For me?" She nodded eagerly, still holding it towards him. Gray took it, eyeing her suspiciously.
"This isn't another one of those anniversaries of ours that I don't know about? What was it, 413 days together?"
"But no. This has nothing to do with Juvia. It's all about Gray."
"I didn't forget my own birthday, did I?" Gray scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Alright then, what's the occasion?"
"Gray day. The first September, it's your day."
"Seriously? How'd you come up with that?"
She rummaged around in her bag again and pulled out a magazine. Gray caught a glimpse at the cover and could tell that it was one of the issues from Sorcerer Weekly. After looking through a few pages, Juvia appeared to have found what she was looking for.
"Look, right here. It says it."
Gray found himself looking at a picture of him, which covered the entire left page. Of course it had to be a shirtless picture. He didnt even remember taking it. Focusing back on the paper in front of him, he read the article next to his picture.
"The first September day equals Gray day. It's the day in which we appreciate Fairy Tails very hot ice mage. But don't just focus on the outside ladies! While the icy boy is definelty a piece of eye candy, there's more about him than his looks. As he has proven in the Grand Magic Games, Gray isn't one who should be underrated. In his very own words: "I never lose to the same opponent twice." The text went on and there were a few more pictures of him alone, with his guild mates and even a few with Juvia.
"Who comes up with that? And where did they even get those pictures from?"
"Juvia, doesn't know, but she believes Gray should be happy they give a whole day to him."
"Don't we have birthdays for that?"
"Don't be silly Graysama, you should be celebrated every day."
"I.. I don't think that's neccessary."
"Hm, if my darling says so. But still, Juvia wants you to take her gift. She would really appreciate it."
Gray hesitated for a moment before taking her gift. If she went through the trouble already, he could at least show some appreciation. Besides he was sure that she would take it the wrong way and be hurt if he rejected the gift. He already did that mistake once.
"Alright, thank you for that. You really didn't have to."
"Juvia wanted to. Open it now so Juvia can know whether you like it or not. That's very important."
He took her hand and walked over to a nearby bench, sitting down. He could see the blush on her cheeks from his sudden action and he tried hard to hide his own. He really needed to get a grip on himself, it's not like they didn't hold hands before. Although he had to admit that he never noticed how perfectly her hand fits in his before. He let go reluctantly, starting to unwrap the package.
He could see Juvia staring at him, eagerly awaiting his reaction. Gray opened the package and found several items in it. First he found a silver necklace chain, similar to the one he was always wearing.
"Juvia noticed that your chain wasn't in the best condition anymore so she got you a similar one. You can put your pendant on it." Gray smiled. A small thing she had noticed that noone else would bother with. Next he pulled out a picture frame. It had a place for four pictures. She had already put them in, pictures of Team Natsu, pictures of the Guild, one of him with Erza and Natsu when they were younger and lastly one of him with Juvia. He stared at the last picture a little longer than necessary. It was a nice picture.
"There weren't many personal things at your place. So Juvia thought she'd give you something to change that. You can also change the pictures if you like. Juvia wasn't sure which one you'd prefer.." She was rambling, a little unsure and Gray couldn't help himself. He took her hand in his before smiling at her. The blush appeared immedialty, but this time he didn't bother hiding it.
Juvia looked at him with big eyes before she smiled back, eyes filled with happiness. They continued looking at the things in the package and Gray loved how she had an explanation for every item. She had put so much thought into it and he felt so much appreciation for the blunette sitting next to him. The last thing inside was a charm, a little version of the Teru Teru Bozu doll she used to carry around with her. He looked at her questioningly, eager to hear her explanation.
"Juvia wanted something that you could carry with you when you're on missions, something that would let you know that Juvia is thinking about you, even when you're not around. And it's also supposed to remind you of the day we met. Thanks to you Juvia doesn't need to make this dolls anymore."
She looked away embarrassingly. Before Gray knew what he was doing, he had his arms around her, pulling her close to his chest.
"Thank you Juvia. I'll cherish every gift."
She hugged him back and hid her blushing face against his chest. Gray couldn't help the chuckle that escaped him. He hadn't been that happy in a while and couldn't help but think about how lucky he turned out to be that he ended up meeting Juvia. Maybe he would celebrate this Gray day after all..
I could not not write something on my favorite boys day. And I could also not not include the reason why I love him even more which is Gruvia of course.
