12 Things I’ve learned from fasting:
I am currently 63 hours into another fast and I’ve been thinking alot about what I’ve learned so I thought I’d share.
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT SUPPORT OR ENCOURAGE EATING DISORDERS. IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU COULD BE DEVELOPING ONE, FIND A RELIABLE AND TRUSTED SOURCE IN YOUR LIFE AND ASK FOR HELP. I SUPPORT RECOVERY BECAUSE YOU ALL DESERVE IT.
Water is very important, do not underestimate how important it is. It’s literally between life and death.
The time between the 12 hour and the 24 hour marks are by far the hardest (for me atleast).
After the 24 hours, I’ve realised that I never actually feel hungry - I just feel like I should be eating. Very different things, I’ve learned.
Stretching really isn’t my friend, my head went so fuzzy l o l.
Vitamins and Energy Boosters!!! I felt very fatigued, so I drank some energy boosting suger/milk/calorie free tea and ate some vitamins to keep me strong and alert which mostly worked.
ICE WATER IS YOUR FRIEND. ITS SO COLD AND KEEPS YOU ALERT.
You. Can. Still. Gain. At. Night. Please remember that if you are fasting, your body is still changing so if you weigh yourself 2+ times a day, your weight WILL fluctuate up and down.
Avoid staying up late, hunger pains are always worse from 2am onwards (again, for me atleast).
If you feel woozy, take in some deep breaths and drink some water. If you still feel dizzy - EAT SOMETHING
Keeping busy with low energy activities such as reading, watching tv/YouTube, writing, homework, studying, light cleaning or any hobbies similar is very important as it keeps you distracted, productive and can make you feel happier if you feel accomplished.
For the love of god, avoid heavy exercising after the 18 hour mark, you can’t afford to be losing all that energy and sweat etc etc. I’m not a genius but I just know it’ll do you more damage than good okay? Stick to walking and stretching. Save the running and heavy exercise for days you decide to eat
If it gets to a point where you physically feel like you might pass out, or you have to grab things to support you while you walk, or your vision disappears momentarily after quick movements (such as standing or turning around), or you physically can’t stand still without swaying - EAT. Whether it’s a snack like apples or a full meal, just eat it. You really are going to need it if you don’t want to risk fainting - especially if you are alone or at work - or being hospitalised.
I hope this helps someone even a little, because keeping these in mind have helped keep me a little safer while fasting.
