laurent never really had the time to think about what really happened to nicaise (the blue earring im crying…) it was always planning, scheming, and surviving against his uncle so there was no room to mourn really. but with his uncle away from the picture now and with their kingdoms rightfully taken, he sits himself down in solitude and thinks and he mourns in silence. he had once told damen before, ‘to get what you want, you have to know exactly how much you are willing to give up’ and he knew this. knew, because he had told himself this a million times already. he had his kingdom now, he had damen now but nicaise was never someone he thought he had to let go. and then damen walks in on him

laurent would hear his footsteps and know that it was damen because only one man, aside from himself, went inside their rooms unannounced. he would turn and tell him, ‘they said that he was noble, that he was loyal.’ damen would rush to laurent and hold him in his arms. he’d tell him, ‘im sorry. i know how much nicaise meant to you.’ they’d sit there together for a while just thinking about the past and how far they’ve come

If you haven’t read this series please, please give it a shot! I loved, loved completely losing myself in all the characters' personalities, romances, and parts in the Great Tactical mind twisting warfare/political drama that this series is. Laurent takes me apart every time and ahh im so, so, so fond of damens progression and just his….frankly kind of awkwardloving personality???? theyre such a charming pair once you like make it past that first segment where laurent is unleashing all the cruelties imaginable upon damen…
