I debated with myself whether or not i should share this since it feels very personal, but here it is. I’m not good at comics but this has been floating in my mind for a little and I figured maybe others felt the same too.

We all have come to see this blog as a reliable source of information about gun violence in the USA. I think it’s also important to remember that not all gun violence is in a mass shooting. There are even more people dying and getting injured than what we see here or on bigger news coverage.

According to gunviolencearchive.org, as of January 4th, 2019, 152 people have died from gun violence- mass shooting or more isolated incidents. 152 (reported) lives have been taken and it hasn’t even been a week into the year.

I know this blog is focused on mass shootings but I feel this information is also important to stay updated on. (The website I listed above has tons of information including their methodologies.)

This is a graph detailing the number of mass shootings that occurred in each state in 2018.

If your state is not listed here, that is because it did not have any mass shootings. (Or due to formatting issues I cannot resolve- please see the attached google doc.) Congrats to Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia for no mass shootings! This year there were:

340 mass shootings

56,695 shootings

14,577 deaths from shootings

and 28,133 injuries from shootings

I am not sure what to say at this point that hasn’t been said over and over again already. These numbers are astounding and gun violence in the Unites States has reached epidemic levels. The solution is clear- greater gun control, gun restrictions, ammunition control, and background checks on people who wish to purchase guns. Though I do not think that guns for personal use will ever be prohibited because of the Second Amendment, I think that people need to take a good, long look at what is important to them and their morals. What is more important to you? Guns or lives?

I could site a thousand sources for why gun control works but I know the people who disagree with me will not read them and the people who do agree with me do not need them so I will let the numbers speak for themselves. People are dying and they are dying at astronomical rates. You are now more likely to die by a gun than by a force of nature, than by a vehicle accident, than by police.

America has a problem and everybody knows the solution. Act up.
