"I got the shotgun, you've got the briefcase - it's all in the game though, right?"Â
God I love The Wire.
"How my hair look, Mike?"Â
(The Wire fans will get it.)
When you meet that person. A person. One of your soulmates. Let the connection. relationship be what it is. It may be five mins. Five hours. Five days. Five months. Five years. A lifetime. Let it manifest itself, the way it is meant to. It has an organic destiny. This way if it stays or if it leaves, you will be softer from having been loved this authentically. Souls come into, return, open, and sweep through your life for a myriad of reasons, let them be who and what they are meant.

I was speaking with a friend this evening about love and loss. Got me thinking about how, when there's pain involved in a memory, it's easy to forget - but so important to remember - all the beauty that was in there too. Big things like the intimate moments...small things like this perfect sunset.Â
God's crib
Samora Machel Monument, Mpumalanga, South Africa.Â
It's built on the site of the mysterious 1987 plane crash that killed Mozambique's first president, who was also a major ally of the South African black liberation movement. There's one pipe for each person who died in the crash, and they all have slits so that when the wind blows you hear a symphony of soft howls...haunting
Machel's plane ccrash is thought to have been an assassination coordinated by the South African apartheid government. I wrote about it here:Â
"Machel and 34 fellow passengers plunged to their deaths in the mountain range between South Africa’s Mpumalanga province and Mozambique, in circumstances that to this day remain a chilling whodunit..."
One of the best performances I've ever seen - music and live painting at the "Faces and Spaces" exhibition in The Rooster, a small gallery in Jozi. Wish I could remember the name of this band. Their energy was nuclear.
A hat-rack and a home.
Beautiful simplicity.

A beautiful day.
Mount Kigali.
Kibuye. My favourite place on earth.

A poster I made recently, also, one of my favourite songs.
Ocupações Temporárias (Temporary Occupations) is an annual contemporary art exhibition in Maputo, Mozambique. I attended the 2012 edition, themed Estrangeiros (Foreigners), and was completely blown away - wrote about it here:
"Surprising, relevant and powerful, neither obvious nor obtuse – in a nutshell, my idea of perfect art... "
Side note: wish I could find Tiago Correia-Paulo's short film from this exhibition, 5:59, online. It was...yeah.Â

With Bili Bidjocka at the Pan African Space Station (PASS). Photo by Hannah Parmanandam.
In the beginning, PASS was a 30-day music festival that brought genre-busting, mind-bending acts from all over the African worlds to Cape Town once a year, and broadcast the whole thing live on the net.
Now, PASS lives across space and time, with multiple events throughout the year, all of which - along with past recordings and trans-galactic playlists - are broadcast 24/7 at www.panafricanspacestation.org.zaÂ
"There Are Other Worlds Out There They Never Told You About"
Check it out - big tings planned for 2014. PASS is a project of Chimurenga (Who No Know Go Know)
This map, produced by TomDispatch.com, shows US military presence/activity in the African continent as of 2013. Crazy shyt - take some time to read the full article:Â
"Here’s a question for you: Can a military tiptoe onto a continent? It seems the unlikeliest of images, and yet it’s a reasonable enough description of what the U.S. military has been doing ever since the Pentagon created an Africa Command (AFRICOM) in 2007..."
I also wrote about Africom's soft power offensive for ThisIsAfrica:
"It sounds more like a trans-continental art collective than a war machine..."
