My thoughts on Lorelie and Valencia...
So it’s been revealed Lorelie and Valencia has some backstory together. They used to be friends, fought evil together but then bad stuff happened, boyfriends, pregnancy, Mei blah blah blah... whatever. A shitty backstory but I’ll let it slide for now as it’s not the thing I want to talk about. What I want to talk about is the fandoms reaction to this.
I’ve been observing the fandom for years and something I have noticed is that every time there’s an episode where a male and a female character have some kind of relationship the fandoms reaction is “they’re just friends!! boys and girls can just be friends!!!”. I agree, there is nothing wrong with that... BUT.
As soon as two female or two male characters interact the whole fandom loses their shit “CANON!! THEY ARE IN LOVE!! MY OTPZ!!!”. Isn’t that a bit hypocritical? Why can’t two guys or two girls JUST be friends? Do they always have to be in love? I don’t know about you, but to me it sounds like this fandom is fetishizing gay people. She’s gay, he’s gay, EVERYONE’S GAY! Disgusting. (Note that I don’t think gay people are the disgusting ones it’s the fandom that fetishizes them that are)
So after the Lorelie and Valencia episodes aired of course the fandom started labelling them as “smexy canon lesbians zomg!”. Uh, yeah no.
You want proof that they are not gay? Um. Look at the main character. Mei wouldn’t exist if it wasnt for Valencia having a sexual relationship with a MAN. The HPS universe is futuristic but I’m pretty sure they haven’t found a way for two women to reproduce. And even if that was the case they probably would have mentioned Lorelie was Mei’s mother... but nope. Nothing.
Even before Mei was born they had no romantic interactions. Yes, they held hands but don’t all best friends do that? And after Mei’s birth they’re still as straight as before. Nothing changed between them.
Just face it, Lorelie and Valencia’s relationship was just platonic. Not everything has to be OMG KAWAII YURIS!!!!!! There are NO signs in canon that proves they are lesbians. Don’t listen to the creator interviews they are just spouting lies to yuri bait their fans into buying their shit. Don’t listen.
