On and on I keep seeing these trends in various forms that are people's attempts at mimicking something for looks that takes years to curate. Eg. "Jane birkenifying my bag" or there was another bag related trend where people would beat up, step on, and pour stuff on their bags to make it look worn, used and loved.
Or how there's "punk" style stuff sold with tears, safety pins, and patches already on them.
I don't think there's a specific grandiose point to be made here, but in light of constant consumerism people want something more... grounded? If that makes sense, things with longevity and history. You could have your long worn, loved, and beautiful bag if you had kept the others you had. Mended them, and used them.
