The title song feels like caricature of today’s society but sadly it is representative of society. We may feel like these people live in extremes but many people, especially those with phones engage in a dissociative state.

A comparison: Today I finished I love LA. In watching the show I found almost all the characters insufferable. And yet I finished the show, I consumed the content. The show follows influencers and those trying to make it big. From the outside they feel so disconnected from themselves, others, and society. Their focus is self centered and at times ruthless.

Lyric breakdown:

“Who made you the preacher” nowadays anyone will claim they are the expert and that you should follow their advice.

“Blue light killed the dreamer” such a depressing and real reality. I myself feel addicted to my phone. And for what? It’s getting me nowhere closer to where I want to be. Who knew Wall-E would become a reality. So many of us live our lives dissociated. In writing this post I in someways avoid and in other ways connect. As I don’t feel like I’ve done a deep dive on the album since it released despite listening to it many times over (5sos please don’t read this it’s embarrassing).

“Numbin of the heart/Strobe lights and broken speakers/I wanna to stay/I wanna stay/I wanna stay” I wanna stay feels like a double edged sword it could be at the club (which I’ve never been too lol) where you’re lost from reality and high on a feeling and substance and you wanna stay in that moment. But there is also a way of feeling this way and feeling so connected to the moment and the world around you.

The chorus follows the similar story of TikTok and the Internet and how “everyone is a star” their center stage. But I do like how they’ve used it as a double entendre mentioning how each member of the band is star.

5sos even reflects how listening to music (and fandom culture) can be a way to disconnect from society.

-Many queer people still enjoy Harry Potter

-FanFic can be a way to reclaim work when an artist is discovered to be a bad person

-The skit its self mentions that JKR would not have liked the idea

-They called it heated wizardry, minimizing or eliminating the pair being rivals

-Ben looks like Ron, he is a younger member of the cast.

-(When it comes to intimacy it’s also important the host and the cast member feel comfortable with one another and have some sort of chemistry (similar to Dark Orbit, Mikey worked well for both the roll and with Finn but another cast member might not have worked as well))

-The whole bit over the stranger things release was the fact that Finn keeps playing queer characters who are in love with their best friend. So it would make sense for it to be Ron and Harry over Draco and Harry.

-Switching to the stranger things promo, Finn may have declined this skit if he perceived it as homophobic.

-I think this has nothing to do with Will being Gay and more the internet discourse on the scene. So many people have said the final battle felt shorter than his coming out. Many have criticized that scene. I have primarily seen citizen from queer and allied individuals. It’s similar to conformity gate being mentioned they’re pulling from the top fan/general audience discourse on the season.
