Humans don't lose all hope, become depressed and shells. Rebellions aren't just filled with dark and broody peeps that have a do or die attitude. Sure there are some people like that but...

In real life, humans celebrate until the end. We sing sea shanties, we create more shit than we ever have, we spread a little but more kindness that we used to just cus others might need it now. We hold fast to the idea, the small and far away idea that it might get better and we laugh and sing until that day is here. We riot and battle our way for that better day but we don't stop celebrating what we have. We break, and cry and die and lose our footing. We know we might be in a losing game, but that's exactly why we celebrate what we've got.

i know i’m late to the party (im sick and was sleeping) but Josh coming out today really threw me around for a second. 

I was actually genuinely surprised, in all honestly, I didn’t expect this at all. I think in some ways it explains some of his abrasive behaviour and it does make me think of him differently. I’ve never disliked Josh, I’ve just thought he was a little too involved in this fandom for his own good, and his desire to be messy was a little unsettling (and stirred up unnecessary drama). That being said, it is now mostly explained for, with him latching onto this amazing group of support for his character and thus he wanted to support Cyrus inso, supporting himself indirectly. 

It’s sweet, it’s bittersweet, because it hurts a little. I can’t begin to imagine what Josh was going through. He only came out to his cast members last night. He was actively posting and commenting about being straight, knowing he wasn’t. That really has to take a toll, it has to hurt. Being in the closet is hard, but it has to be so much harder when you play a character who isn’t. A character who is so loved by his friends and has accepted himself so fully that he’s able to be with the guy he likes. 

And you think it would be some sort of support, and I’m sure in the end it was (that and all of you being there), but at the same time Josh is an actor, a public figure, who is put under a spotlight every day. I didn’t realise until today just what that means in terms of coming out. You aren’t just telling your family at dinner, you aren’t just making a post on your instagram and slowly coming out to others in your life. Other people are FIGHTING to do it for you. You come out and there are 50 articles in the works, just on your sexuality.  Not even doing it for any kind of MEANING but just to get clicks, to get likes, to use your sexuality as gossip. And then there’s interviews, interviews in 2 years that are supposed to be about an upcoming movie, and are instead focused on your sexuality. You’re trending on twitter, getting thousands of replies and comments on who you are as a person, by the most random people. And while in 2019, a good chunk of that focus is good focus, it’s still all-consuming. It’s still. so. much.

Josh was able to play a character who could come out to his friends, who had a private life where he could have a private boyfriend, and have that to himself. And as he read those scripts, as he played that life, he was figuring out who he was, and that he couldn’t have that. And thats NOT to say that it’s bad, but it’s SO much harder. It’s something you have to 100% be in and ready for. And he wanted to come out, he wanted to be who he was in public, to all of us, and on top of all of that, it’s just so brave.

And I love that he’s out there posting memes, using his platform to support GLAAD and ask for donations, and engaging with the fans. He’s taking this in stride and it makes me really happy to see that he can be himself. It’s just crazy that he felt like he needed to hide a part of himself back. I’m so happy that he’s here with us now.
