rookie of the year.
in which Taewoo and @idxchangmin cross paths again and itās as though no time has passed.
Over the years Lee Taewoo has seen a thousand faces come and go. Some burn bright and fast, vanishing as quickly as they appear. Others spend months, years, clawing their way into public consciousness before slowly fading back into obscurity.
First before even auditioning for Midas, the revolving cast staffing his parents restaurant where he would spend his hours after school, all eventually growing tired of the constant financial woes and failures in management and leaving. Then as a trainee, where he languished in the darkness for years as others fought their way to the top of the pile and made their way through the system. Some took a year. Some took two. Some took more. When he finally made it, almost none of the trainees that had been present when heād joined remained.
And then as 1nfernoās Taewoo, in an industry that chews up young idols and spits out broken husks. The amount of groups that debut and fail astonishingly is both disheartening and at this point predictable. Friends and acquaintances alike have been swept up by the rapids and flung over the waterfall back to miserable reality. Itās alarming that 1nferno teeter ever closer to the edge, each passing comeback and each missed opportunity for a win dragging them ever closer to the precipice of failure. But thatās a worry for another day.
The moral is simple: There is no such thing as a constant.
And yet, against all odds and completely by coincidence, Taewoo has managed to find one. Heās known Changmin for as long as he can remember, long before either of them became cogs in the industry machine. Before heād even considered performing as anything other than a distant pipe dream. They were one and the same, both walking paths alone paved with adversity, and when those paths intersected the connection had been almost immediate.
As children they had been close. At one point Changmin had been one of the only friends to stick with him as circumstances began to spiral and his family found themselves in abject poverty. Of course heād known of the others troubles too, but unlike with so many of their peers it had never been seen as an issue. Their backgrounds did not define them; why should they influence how they treat one another? It had seemed for a while as though their friendship could weather all storms.
Time brings distance though. They both become trainess at around the same time, though at different companies. The new hectic lifestyle and strict rules that come along with their new positions make it near impossible to keep in constant contact, though a few fleeting messages are exchanged here and there. The other makes their debut first, and though itās difficult not to feel at least a little jealous, Taewoo is happy for them.
He also assumes that thatās the end of it; that heāll be forgotten, left behind, a footnote in history. Another fleeting face in another personās story. They, predictably, speak even less than before. That is, until 1nferno are revealed to the world.
Itās startling how quickly they reconnect. To begin with there is of course some residual awkwardness, but it takes no more than a few meetings for the cobwebs to be brushed away. Taewoo is different, publicly at least, no longer the bubbly extrovert he once was, but Chagmin is⦠Changmin. It feels, to Taewoo at least, as though five weeks have passed rather than five years. Perhaps itās just his eagerness to find something familiar to anchor him in the chaos of their new world, or perhaps their connection truly does run that deep. Either way, he isnāt questioning it.
Keeping in touch is difficult; though certain other 1nferno members are happy to break their contracts in secret and have phones squirrelled away Taewoo has always been a stickler for the rules. They somehow manage though, mostly back stage at big events or filming for whatever show. The sessions in front of the cameras are long and arduous, leaving plenty of time to kill. Filming is winding down for the day, largely a success, and various celebrities are streaming back to their respective waiting rooms.
Taewoo makes a detour on his own return journey, tracks down his friend. Until 1nferno earn more freedom, they have to take every opportunity they are handed. How long has it been since the last time? In truth life has been that much of a whirlwind that heās lost track. It takes a while to find him, and for a moment he worries that the other has already departed and that he should do the same. He turns a corner as the thought crosses his mind, swipes it away when he spots a familiar face. He races to catch up, a hurried shuffle down the hallway. āChangmin, heyā He manages, slightly more out of breath than he should be as he takes a slight bow. āItās been a while, right? Iām sorry I didnāt come to find you sooner.ā
His tone is quiet as he straightens up, a hand raking through his hair to correct any stubborn strands before being shoved into the pockets of his pants. āAre you⦠are you busy? We should do something, catch up if you have time.ā He asks, trying to force a smile beyond flat. āOf course if you have more important things to do itās fine⦠I can just go back to Midas and get a couple of hours practice in or something.ā He hastens to add.
have you forgotten my name
in which taewoo is confronted by @idjiyeon for dealing with things poorly
Itās late. Exactly how late Taewoo isnāt sure, but heās sure that when he steps out of the building to return to the dorms heāll be greeted by a familiar inky blackness. Early hours of the morning perhaps? Thatās normally the way his days go. Leave as the sun rises, return long after itās set and catch a couple of hours sleep between the two if heās lucky. Healthy? Not particularly, but itās all in aid of the greater good, of bettering himself and proving his use to both 1nferno and Midas.
Or at least thatās what he tells himself.
He emerges from the studio with slightly haggard features, baggy hooded sweatshirt hang loosely from him form. A hand rakes through dishevelled hair, pushing a few particularly stubborn strands aside to reveal tired eyes. As he stifles a yawn, arms stretch out and he glances down the halls, not nearly as deserted as heād expected.
In truth he doesnāt pay much attention to the faces he passes, mumbling pleasant enough greetings and bowing his head to each but feet never stopping. He moves with intention, as though heās in a hurry as he weaves through the maze like corridors of the building. Turning a corner a voice in the distance catches his attention, and he raises his head to find the source. When he locates it, he finally grinds to a halt.
He and Jiyeon had been friends once. Theyād been friends for a long time, in fact, since the days before either was an idol. A hundred faces heād seen come and go, and after a while heād learned it best not to get attached to his fellow trainees because of how much it stung when he was left behind, but sheās been an exception to the rule.
Even after theyād debuted theyād remained friendly, perhaps a little too much so. Call it naĆÆve ignorance, but it didnāt occur to him that being seen together backstage so regularly would be enough to get people talking, to start the whispers and baseless speculation. They were just friends after all, and they never did anything to suggest otherwise. Gossip is the currency of the internet however, and people love to talk.
When the whispers began to increase in volume, threatened to become something more, Taewoo shut down. He took the most reliable, if perhaps a little extreme, method of dealing with it; pulling the weed out by the root. In his mind the company ar already ready to bench him at a moments notice, and a scandal would give them all the reason they need. Besides, cures can Ā be⦠vocal, and the last thing she needs is a target inadvertently painted on her back. It hurts a little, but itās best for both of them.
Or at least thatās what he tells himself.
In theory itās easier to avoid her, but sharing a company itās difficult in practice. Now, with her stood between himself and the door, heās prepared to be on the receiving end of the cold shoulder. Heās prepared for her to glare daggers if heās spotted. If. Taewoo bites his bottom lip nervously, tugs his hood down over eyes now filled with anxiety. Maybe she hasnāt noticed him yet. Maybe she wonāt.
He shuffles past her, bows his head again, mumbles a greeting even more timid than before, crosses his fingers and hopes for the best.
duty.
idaroonā:
[...] aroon sits besides taewoo, two cups of coffee in hand, and slides one to him ā he is angry, but considerate.Ā āokay so what are we doing today?ā he asks.Ā āwhatās our gameplan here? should we talk about practice? should we sit a bit closer? maybe we should read some fanfic.ā from behind the phone his manager glares at him.Ā ājust kidding!ā he chuckles, sarcastic, takes a sip of his iced macchiato.Ā āfor real though, we gotta do something good.ā he looks at taewoo and sighs. there he goes again, making aroon feel the need to take the lead.Ā āgive me something, woo.ā
Black on Black not being as successful as the company hoped had not come as a surprise. Though heād never admit it, deep down Taewoo had known that they were on a road to nowhere as soon as heād heard the track. Itās not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but itās⦠strange. Experimental, if heās being nice, bizarre if heās being realistic. The time signatures are all over the place, thereās not much in the way of melody. As close to noise as it is to music. Itās simply not the kind of thing that shifts units.
And yet still heād dared to hope. Perhaps the public would shock them all and take a shine to the song. Thereās at least one good hook in there to latch on to and technically their performances had been sound. Since their last release their profile has continued to grow, and whilst theyāre still far from the top of the pile maybe there would be enough good will to make this work. Maybe.
Alas, there isnāt, so here he sits, ready to beam onto screens around the world and try to salvage the mediocrity of the comeback with a VLive crammed with as much fan service as he can muster. Ā Itās not something he particularly enjoys, nor is it something heās massively comfortable with, but itās what is demanded of him as an idol.
1nfernoās Taewoo is a different man to the real Taewoo, a much bolder and present personality, bright, cheerful and full of life. A mask heād learned to don at the companyās behest a long time ago. There are still times when it feel as though it doesnāt fit, as though itās too loose and risks falling off at any moment, but he simply tightens the strings and continues.
When the company ask, he says yes. When they say jump, he asks how high. Thatās how things have always been and how they always will be.
He doesnāt hate this as much as Aroon. Sure, theyāre an unlikely pairing, but at least in front of the camera theyāre two of the louder personalities in the group so it makes sense to him that theyāre pushed together so often. It had taken him a long time to adjust to the other, his directness (Heād almost choked on his drink when heād made the comment about their fans in such an offhanded way) to learn that not everything should be taken at face value. In the process of doing so, heās learned how much disdain he has for their fans and exactly how far to push things before they reach their limits.
Itās never a good sign when heās this testy before theyāve even begun.
Taewoo chuckles nervously as the cup is slip towards him and Aroon makes his ājokeā. Thereās a part of him that admires the boldness, the brazenness of it, but another part that despairs. This group will drive him to a stress induced cardiac arrest, heās sure of it. āā¦I donāt know, I thought you knew what we were doing.ā He mumbles, trying for a quiet smile and mostly succeeding.Ā āSorry, I-ā
Eyes stray to the person sat behind the camera in search of some sort of direction, greeted by a more relaxed response than heād anticipated. āJust be casual, we donāt want it to seem to scripted.ā They say plainly. āYou should talk about the release, we might be able to drum up some more support for it, but other than that⦠just act naturally.ā
Not the most helpful, but better than nothing he supposes. He glances from the corner of his eye to gauge the response, takes a small sip of his drink and nods. āIām sorryā He mumbles again, quiet enough that the manager canāt make out the words, features more apologetic now. āI know how much you donāt like doing this.ā As the stream begins he takes a moment to compose himself, to slip into his given persona. By the time people begin streaming in he manages to force a wide grin and an enthusiastic greeting.
sandwich break.
idxdaehyunā:
[...] āH- uh. Hi!ā With a shy but bright signature smile Daehyun stepped aside, a subtle compromise between the wish to put more distance between themselves and the ambition to stay polite.Ā āI hope I wasnāt in the way!ā He threw a quick glance over his shoulder at the sandwich counter (he hadnāt picked one yet, no). For one moment he feared lapsing into awkward silence, so he quickly added:Ā āIām really enjoying your comeback. Black on Black.ā Great, Captain Obvious. Of course Taewoo would know the title of his own groupās song.Ā āThe performance music video was super impressive!ā
Taewoo has neither the energy nor the constitution to do this. Not now, not ever. In a world of lover and fighters he is a lover through and through. The sort of person who wouldnāt hurt a fly if it was holding him at gunpoint, who doesnāt have a bad word to say about anyone, who just wants to avoid drama. So why, why, why does he find himself locked into a rivalry with B.Riteās Daehyun?
There is a simple answer: Not through choice. As with the problems faced by most people in their line of work, itās almost entirely the fault of the media. A work of pure fiction; because everyone needs a good storyline, even if itās entirely fabricated. Shortly after the emergence of 1nferno as a serious contender the comparisons to the (vastly different and more successful) B.Rite began, and in the intervening years they never truly stopped. Being the only two boy groups of their generation it was perhaps inevitability, though that doesnāt soften the blow of them being constantly pitted against one another.
Itās strange that theyāve been chosen as two of the star fighters, the two they attempt to push into the ring time after time. Neither has ever taken a swing, no jabs, no crosses. Neither seem capable. Both of their public images are too bright and affable for that, and whilst he canāt speak for Daehyun behind the scenes Taewoo would more often than not rather avoid speaking full stop. But then perhaps they donāt help the situation. Sure, neither have been actively hostile, but then theyāve hardly been supportive either. Neither of them has ever gone out of their way to put the story to bed, to outright deny it on screen or off.
All of which leaves Taewoo with lingering doubt. If thereās one thing that he has learned in his three years in this industry, itās how easy it is to don a mask for the cameras. How vast the difference can be between the adopted persona and the person behind it. He does it himself; meek, exhausted workaholic miraculousy transformed into beaming, bright and loud. For all he knows Daehyun does harbour some genuine resentment for him, sees him as competition despite their almost diametrically opposed concepts. He doesnāt think heās ever done or said anything that could have offended him, but stillā¦
And so the two of them have been happy enough to let the other exist in the peripheries of their existence, neither seeming to want to rock the boat too much. With their hectic schedules maintaining distance is not a difficult task. Right now though their promotions overlap, and the two crossing paths had been an inevitability that heād been silently dreading.
It finally happens in, where else, the cafeteria. After stretching on for what felt like hours 1nfernoās filming finally reaches its conclusion, and a brief reprieve granted before all idols are called back to the stage for the results. Beneath clothes likely more expensive than his parents car his muscles ache, beneath the layers of cosmetics caked on his face the features bleed exhaustion.
It takes a second to even process the others presence, to realise exactly who it is. It takes him off guard more than it probably should just how warm the greeting is. A little frantic perhaps, but a million miles from the verbal beat down that the tiny doubting voice in the back of his head had been so panicked about. Of course it had always been the most unlikely outcome, but a possibility none the less. Itās enough to convince him to let his guard down.
āUh⦠thanks.ā Is all Taewoo manages in response with a quick glance upwards towards Daehyun and a relieved, if slightly flat smile. If you were to listen closely youād hear the cogs turning in his mind, grinding together as he tries to formulate a better response. He looks through the sandwiches as though one of them holds the answer, but when the bread yields nothing he settles for parroting the sentiment back to fill the silence. āOh My! Is great too. Iāve not seen choreography like the intro before itās⦠cool.ā
Slow clapping. Cool? Cool? Is that seriously the best he can come up with.
Heās normally comfortable in the silence, the tool he most often uses to avoid the awkwardness of stumbling through conversation with strangers, but now? Now it has betrayed him. Now it hangs thick in the air, clings to the gap between every syllable. āā¦How did your performance go?ā He attempts, a slightly larger display of faux confidence this time as he plucks a sandwich from the display and looks to the other once more. A trite question, but the best he can offer in the moment, still walking on eggshells as he is.

Hey all, Alex here bringing you the return of the first of my two losers Lee Taewoo! Heās still the same exhausted marshmallow as before, but because of the revamp a few things have been switched up. Under the cut is a list of changes, as well as a general recap of his character for those not familiar. Alternatively Iāve revamped his pages to look at least semi decent (Sorry that theyāre nothing fancy, but as someone with no clue about HTML Iām still pretty happy with them), so you can find everything here!Ā No plots yet because the idea of spending more time looking at code this early in the morning / desperately Googling to figure out how Iāve broken something makes me want to burst into tears, but hopefully soon!!
Iām gonna be reaching out to people Iād previously plotted with shortly to see if you want to continue or rework our plans, and Iāll also be reaching out to others over the next couple of days to try and get some new stuff going. If anyone has any ideas or a use for Tae feel free to come shout at me here or on Discord (alexmcrw#7717), Iām always down for brainstorming ideas and writing with new characters!
feels like we only go backwards
Opportunity prompt: Dancing9
in which clashing egos sees reigning champions dethroned and Taewoo does little to slow the fall
After the overwhelming success of their first performance the Blue team, or Taewoo at least, feels as though theyāre riding the crest of a wave. There are flaws in technique littered throughout the number, the judges say, a number of which Taewoo knows heās responsible for, but the strength of the whole covers the weakness of the individual. Despite his doubts and their initial teething problems as a team, theyāve clawed their way to the top and sit crowned as kings of the hill.
When itās announced thereās no containing his emotions, no hiding the way his whole body explodes with excitement or the way his face lights up with shock and pure unadulterated joy. At long last a tangible reward, validation, appreciation. Something to let him know that the sleepless nights, the pushing himself to the cliff edge, had been worth it. Ā
But of course all waves inevitably crash.
words donāt come so easily
in which Taewoo films a short interview for Dancing9
Prompt: 6 month anniversary interview prompt 1/3
Taewoo has always hated giving interviews. Most aspects of life as an idol heās grown to enjoy, or at least tolerate, but being faced with the barrage of questions has always made him uncomfortable. Theyāre too unpredictable. Ordinarily heād use the other members of Nitro as a shield to deflect the interrogations, leaving them to take the lead whilst he hovers in the background nodding in agreement or laughing when he needs to, but today thatās not an option.

the archive of (almost) lost dreams.
Prompt: Detail your parentās initial and current thoughts on your career choice
Silence. Silence, Disbelief, Disappointment. Thatās all that greets him when he sits with his parents to tell them that he wants to spend his life performing. They simply stare, a sadness glazing their eyes as he speaks about his idol ambitions. Though they never condemn him or force him down a different path, they never outright support him either. Theyād always had high hopes for their son. A doctor, a lawyer, something grander than themselves that would allow him to transcend his borderline poverty-stricken beginnings. Heās been on track as well, at the top of his academic career with hundreds of paths to success laying open before him, each forsaken for a fleeting chance at a distant dream.
And yet they still couldnāt say not. As long as he maintains his grades and has some sort of back-up plan formulating in the back of his mind, they reason, thereās see no reason to crush his dreams underfoot. And so with a sad smile they tell him that they wonāt stop him, that itās a road heāll have to travel without aid from them, but not one theyāll close off entirely
d.a.n.c.e.
idxjiaā:
Jia gave him a hesitant smile.Ā āTell me, which of these do you think will get Medea on the show?ā she asked, referring to her stage name.Ā āWhich one did you like better?ā
Taewoo responds with a nod before quickly vacating, finding a spot in the periphery that offers a view of both the woman and her reflection in the mirrored walls. Though heās far from qualified, the position on the sidelines watching and (at least trying) to help his juniors in the company with their performance is just as familiar as being on the floor. "Of course. I donāt know how much help Iāll be though.āĀ He answers simply, forcing through a smile. A part of him knows that helping his competition out now could come back to haunt him further into the competition; Hell, it could even stop him from advancing any further than the first round. But frankly the offer comes as a welcome, if fleeting distraction.
Both routines manage to surpass expectations. Nightmare are all too often overlooked, unfairly maligned by their critics on a regular basis, but there has always been an undeniable level of talent in the group. Even before heād seen what sheād prepared Taewoo had known better than to underestimate Jia. Theyād been through the same harsh and gruelling trials training with Koala.T, the countless hours watching your own reflection, repeating the same steps until every fiber of your body aches. Many fail on the path to the top, but theyāre amongst the few that have reached the peak.
And yet still the sheer skill she demonstrates in those brief few minutes catches him off guard. Her first dance contains many of the staples of an idols repertoire, each polished to a gleam and presented with an edge befitting her background. A crowd pleaser, a safe choice.Ā āItās very... Medea. Thereās a lot of character in your moves. ā He offers thoughtfully after taking a moment to gather his thoughts when she first falls still.Ā āThereās no reason why the judges shouldnāt like it.ā
The hesitance that teases his companionās voice as she speaks about her alternative is the first outward sign of uncertainty sheās shown in their time together so far, or at least the first that heās been calm enough to notice. It helps to settle his own nerves knowing that heās not the only one unsure of how to approach this. As soon as she begins to move her usual confidence seems to return, and with good cause. Though itās several light-years away from obscenity, this number is undoubtedly bolder. Equally as polished as the first, it seems to lean more on western sensibilities and showcase an entirely different skillset. There are moments when he feels as though he should avert his eyes and moments that heās almost hypnotised by the hairography.
When she finishes both he wants to clap and cheer, but manages to stop himself at the last second knowingĀ how desperately awkward it might be in a room with just the two of them.Ā āI think... I think maybe the second?ā He says, the suggestion sounding more like a question than intended. āTheyāre both amazing, really well choreographed, but I think a lot of contestants will be doing something similar to the first so it might be easier to stand out. You should go with whichever you feel most confident in though, either would be good enough to get you through Iām sure.ā
A few minutes more pass, filled with idle conversation not quite so stilted as before and more warmups in preparation for their moment in the spotlight.Ā āYou know.... you have me a little worried now.ā He mumbles sheepishly. Knowing just how draining it could be, running through theĀ piece heād prepared before the stage had not been a part of the plan, but after seeing the standard of the competition it now feels necessary. His phone is fished from a bag tossed to the floor as they entered, finger scrolling to find his music.Ā āWould you mind if I...?ā He asks, motioning to the space sheād previously occupied.Ā āItāās fine if youād rather me not, I can... Iām sure itāll be fine.ā
three decades
in which a trainee taewoo questions how tenable his dreams actually are
prompt: detail the one time you wanted to quit
Lee Taewoo is no stranger to adversity. From the firs breath he takes, it seems as though a target is painted squarely on his back and the universe takes any opportunity it can to try for the bullseye. Itās a hereditary ailment, the cosmic vendetta passed down through his family for generations, an unfortunate inheritance from which escape had seemed impossible. And yet like generations that precede him he grins and bears it, tries in vain to claw his way out of the pit lest the misfortune eventually find itself passed down the line again.
Never has this been more accurately captured than during his time as a trainee. In the distance the promises of success, of debuting on a national stage and being able to provide, call out and offer hopes of salvation; a light at the end of the tunnel. The crawl towards it is slow, at times almost glacial in pace, but still he perseveres. Days are spent training, nights spent working any job he can find, a constant battle with his own body and mind to stay on the right track. An innate optimism tells him that itās possible, that despite the bumps in the road itās possible as long as he keeps going.
And then, right on schedule, the light fades. A sentence is all it takes. It doesnāt go out entirely, but dims to the point where itās barely visible. āTaewoo you need to get to the hospital. Your father has taken a turn for the worse.ā

Last Yearās Snow
Event: Idolize 12 Days of Christmas Prompt: Day 5 - A memory of the first snow Wordcount: 738
The first snowfall of the year holds little meaning for Lee Taewoo. He no longer dreads it in the same way that he had in years gone, but there is no sentiment there either. Itās just snow, nothing more, nothing less. The only thing that it means is that heāll need to wear a coat outdoors. There are some superstitions that hold merit, but the idea of the white acting as harbinger of love, of it somehow bringing two souls closer together seems simply ridiculous. His mother always tells fantastical tales of it acting as some sort of magnetic force between people that sheās known, but heās always remained unconvinced.

Hey everyone, this is a little late I know, but Iām Alex, 23, He/Him and stranded in GMT. Iāve been eyeing this group for a couple of months now, so Iām super hyped to finally be here! Iāve been a part of the Tumblr RP scene since the dawn of time (about nine years I think?), but this is my first time in an idol-based group, so if I do anything wrong please donāt be afraid to call me out on it. This is kind of a ālearning-on-the-jobā type deal, so please bear with me!
Under the cut is a little about my perpetually exhausted marshmallow of a man Lee Taewoo, the main dance and lead vocal in Nitro.Ā Full bio, career and plots page listed below. If anyone would like to plot anything with him Iām open to pretty much anything, so feel free to hit me up here or on Discord (alexmcrw#7717), or just like this post and Iāll throw myself at your inbox!
Also: Thank you all for the warm welcome! Iāve just come from a super toxic rp environment and had a whole lot of anxiety about joining another group, so it really does mean a lot. I promise Iām not ignoring your messages, Iāll be working my way through them tonight!!
