Ashley: “This is an introduction but it’s also a cautious goodbye. It explores themes about how my music would affect my fans should I ever ‘disappear’. The chorus of this song was inspired by a lot of the emo music that massively shaped my identity as I was coming of age.”

clementine: “This song was a pinnacle moment for Manic. It’s when I really saw my inner self and inner child come through in the sound as well as the lyrics. You can hear two voices. One is Halsey, calm and composed performing. And one is Ashley, yelling her heart out impulsively in the background.”

You should be sad: “I knew my album needed a really good breakup song. I wanted it to be heart-wrenching, exhausted and a little bit petty. I thought, what better genre to turn to than ‘Country.’ The genre that has perfected the heartbreak song. I wrote the entire song on my guitar, on my living room floor.”

More: “This was the most personal song to write. I wrote the lyrics to this one in less than 5 minutes. It’s a love song, but not to a romantic partner. To someone in the universe who doesn’t exist yet. But will one day…”
