Cut by the Moon!

-We all have our May Day rituals. Even if you scoff about it, May 1st is a powerful date and you can feel it in the air and in the way some of the people around you are shimmering.

-School is out for the summer. You hear an ice cream truck out in the street, followed by the sound of laughter as all the children in the neighborhood chase after it. You never hear the children coming back.

-The lilacs are blooming, suddenly. Overnight, the sweet smell creeps in through your open windows, and you feel the sudden urge to leave your bed and follow the scent. Resist the urge, no matter what. The lilacs aren’t the same in the moonlight as they are in the day.

-The weather may be summery, but the water is still freezing, like the bottom of the lake is consuming all the sunlight. Something is down there, cold and dark, and you can sometimes feel it lapping at your toes as you swim.

-It always rains on Memorial Day. No matter what the forecast says, your barbecue will be cancelled. It’s for the best.

-The wasps have returned. You haven’t seen one yet, but whenever you think you’re alone, you hear the buzzing coming from behind your curtains.

-Where did the time go? You feel like the last snow has only barely passed but suddenly the spring flowers are wilting and the heat is starting to stifle you. Blink again and the summer too will end.
