Just finished s1 of Heroes (2006) and I think it’s crazy that a show from 20 years ago was talking about doing an organized genocide on “undocumented individuals” and curing people who are “special” and those people being ashamed of their “abilities”

might get my victim card revoked for this one but i think a really interesting side to victimhood is when victims end up developing a kind of backhandedly complimentary relationship with those they feel safest with where boundaries erode and feelings warp under pressure and become this horrifying, unwanted "it's okay when it's you" dynamic that has the potential to completely shatter the trust between them and those who matter to them the most. not that victims particularly need to be reminded of our ability to do harm when most of us live with the suffocating weight of that knowledge every day of our lives but it does make one feel seen and is i think more empowering than pretending that hurt people can't also hurt people.
