"It's the English one. I'm surprised you don't have Perrault - I'd expect that to be the one to survive. Maybe I'm just biased." She carefully lifts it from the shelf, mindful of sticky spots. "I always had a soft spot for this story... fairytales in general, but this one especially."

"Ah, the French incarnation." Utensils clatter as he finishes up his dishes, leftover from this week's '20th Century Cooking' seminar. Another Pizza Roll day. Those are popular. "I'm sure there's copies out there, but I'm biased to these versions."
"The Brothers Grimm are simply classic. And rather popular in these days! Wishing trees grown from gravedirt are more realistic than, say, Fairy Godmothers. Somehow."
"And the Egyptian tales are the oldest. What remained of them, at least. I was lucky to find a copy of the 1800s retelling while scavenging a while ago. Always a good day when you find an intact bookstore!"
He pauses, considering. "Hm. My favourite. I suppose I spend too much time studying to really enjoy these stories... maybe Морозко?"
"Er, scratch that. Does Baba Yaga count? Dreadfully dark but my father spun it in a rather humorous way."
"Hah! Cinderella." She's skimming through books. "I haven't read that one in a long time... do you mind if I flip through this? I'll be careful with it."
"Oh, is that the late English translation of the German tale or the early Egyptian transcription?"
He peeks over the kitchenette, checking the bookcase. "Well, whichever one you've got, the other version is next to it. Mind the stickiness on the English copy. Miss Bonnibel reads it often."
He really needs to try and track down a copy of the German tale. She does seem to like it.
