Ice Is Slippery

The draft is tonight, and I will be watching! If I have things to say, I'll be posting from my new account, @birdthatnestsinsideyou. That will be my main new home from now on. I'll still be talking hockey, but I'll also talk about my newest project, my latest attempt at a career change, pop culture, and probably other stuff! Oh, and I'm sure I'll give updates on Fred's birding adventures. Anyway, I'd love to see you over there!

I've been trying to watch the parade coverage for the Hurricanes on YouTube but it's just so bad. So loud, and it feels like we barely get any shots of the actual parade. I'm just going to trust that if anything good happens people will clip it and post it here, and I'll try to tune in again when they make it to the stage.

It's really wild how much more polished and articulate and thoughtful the players are at the PWHL draft as opposed to the NHL draft. I know a big part of it is age and experience - the women are in their twenties compared to the boys who are 17 and 18 (I use that language intentionally, because it really is adults vs children). But I think a lot of it too is that the women largely haven't been siloed into such an insular hockey world in the same way where the sport is the only thing that matters. Idk, it's just so interesting to me.

The thing is, she can make some really incredible and beautiful plays, but it's hard to separate the artist from the art 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
