A tale of two Funker Vogts
Two Funker Vogts? Or perhaps Two Funkers Vogt, I am uncertain.
Full disclosure - I love the epic, cheesy, military ridiculousness of Funker Vogt. They are like a caricature of an industrial band, and I love them for it.
So when Jens Kastel left, I was pretty disappointed. Now, however, we effectively have two Funker Vogts on the scene.
After the misguided recruitment and hasty kicking of a singer who may or may not have been linked to some far right acts, Funker Vogt are now fronted by Chris from Agonoize, a man who is no stranger to angrily shouting over electro beats.
Funker Vogt - Der Letzte Tanz
Jens, on the other hand, is now fronting The Firm Incorporated, formed with two guys from E-Craft, a band similarly fond of steady beats and loosely dystopian lyrics.
The Firm Incorporated - Abgebrannt
The upshot of all this is that essentially, you can get double the Funker Vogt.
Original flavour Funker Vogt still sound like they used to, but with a slightly differently accented singer.
The Firm Inc, well - they also sound quite a lot like Funker Vogt, but are perhaps marginally more distinctive musically, and have Jens’ distinctive voice.
So it really depends what you liked about Funker Vogt - if what you loved was steady beats and songs about war, then they’ll still satisfy completely. If, on the other hand, you liked Jens Kastel’s voice most of all - then The Firm Inc are for you.
