hope you all had a good rest and are ready for a new year of studying!
xoxo lou
Well. Hereās a bigāun. I finally had time to work on printables so I decided to make a new version of the exam pack printable. Hopefully this helps with exam season.
Includes:
IFTTT - Write down rewards for accomplishing important tasks! Motivate yourself!
Exam Schedule - Keep track of all the deets for up to 18 exams! (dear lord, I hope you never have to suffer such a fateā¦but in case you do, I added a couple rows, just for you). Check off your exams as you take them.
Monthly Calendar - Keep track of important exam dates. Plan up to 6 months in advance, like the extremely prepared student you are/aspire to be. Comes w/ legend if you like color coding ān stuff . :D
Major Topics - Keep track of topics covered on your exam(s).
Scoreboard + Graph - Keep track of your exam scores as you take your exams. Visualize your progress. There are enough graphs to record exam scores in 6 subjects.
D-Day Calendar - Figure out your study schedule in the context of how many days you have left until your exam. Each page has 36 days.
Weekly Calendar - Keep on top of your study schedule; you can plan out your days or just write about your study plan for the week. Also serves as daily planner.
Self-Evaluation - See how you did on certain topics on an exam. Helpful when youāre reviewing past exams or mock exam results.
Click HERE to download the printable (PDF).
For suggestions on how to use the printable, click HERE.
Good luck on your studies, everyone!!
Postscript: Unfortunately, this printable isnāt available for editing. Because of this, Iām opening up my ask box for feedback regarding some small edits you might like me to make on this printable. This means that at a later date, I will aggregate your feedback and try to make an even newer (possibly better) version of this printable! So allās well that ends well.
I love this
Scientifically Proven Study Tips!
Study when sleepy.
Bedtime stories are for wimps. Instead of reading The Berenstein Bears, try studying for a few minutes right before hitting the hay. During sleep, the brain strengthens new memories, so thereās a good chance weāll remember whatever we review right before dozing off . (Just try not to bring work into the actual bed, since it can make it harder to get a good nightās sleep.) And though bedtime is primo study time, it might also help to crack open the books after cracking open those eyes in the A.M.āin the morning, the brain still has lots of room to absorb new information.
Space it out.
A relatively new learning technique called āspaced repetitionā involves breaking up information into small chunks and reviewing them consistently over a long period of time. So donāt try to memorize the entire periodic table in one sittingāinstead, learn a few rows every day and review each lesson before starting anything new.
Tell a tale.
Turning the details you need to remember into a crazy story helps make the information more meaningful. For example, remember the order of mathematic operations PEMDAS this way: Philip (P) wanted to eat (E) his friend Mary (M) but he died (D) from arsenic (AS) poisoning.
Move your butt.
Research suggests studying the same stuff in a different place every day makes us less likely to forget that information. Thatās because, every time we move around (from the library to the coffee shop, or the coffee shop to the toilet seat), we force the brain to form new associations with the same material so it becomes a stronger memory.
Switch it up.
Donāt stick to one topic; instead, study a bunch of different material in one sitting. This technique helps prepare us to use the right strategy for finding the solution to a problem. For example, doing a bunch of division problems in a row means every time we approach a problem, we know itāll require some division. But doing a series of problems that require multiplication, division, or addition means we have to stop and think about which strategy is best.
Put yourself to the test.
Quizzing ourselves may be one of the best ways to prepare for the real deal. And donāt worry about breaking a sweat while trying to remember the name of the 37th U.S. president (fyi, itās Nixon): The harder it is to remember a piece of information in practice mode, the more likely we are to remember it in the future.
Write it out.
Put those third-grade penmanship lessons to good use. Research suggests we store information more securely when we write it out by hand than when we type it. Start by recopying the most important notes from the semester onto a new sheet of paper.
Make me wanna shout.
Reading information out loud means mentally storing it in two ways: seeing it and hearing it Ā . We just canāt guarantee you wonāt get thrown out of the library.
Come together (right now).
Group work doesnāt fly with everyone, but for those who benefit from a little team effort, a study groupās the way to go. Pick a few studious pals and get together every few days to review the material. Put one person in charge of delegating tasks (snack duty, music selection) and keeping the group on target with its goals.
Treat yoā self!
A healthy holiday cookie, a walk around the block, five minutes of tweet-time: whatever floats your boat. Knowing thereās a little reward waiting for us at the end of just a few pages makes it easier to beat procrastination while slogging through a semesterās worth of notes.
Drink up.
Sorry, not that kind of drink. Instead, hit the local coffee shop for something caffeine-filled; thereās lots of research suggesting coffee (and tea) keeps us alert, especially when nothing seems more exciting than the shiny gum wrapper on the library floor.
Take a time out.
Taking time to plan is one of the most important skills a student can have. Donāt just start the week with the vague goal of studying for a history examāinstead, break up that goal into smaller tasks. Pencil it in on the calendar like a regular class: For example, allot every day from 1 to 3 p.m. to review 50 yearsā worth of info.
Gimme a break.
The KitKat guys said it, and so does science: Taking regular breaks can boost productivity and improve our ability to focus on a single task Ā . For a real productivity boost, step away from the screen and break a sweat during a midday gym sesh.
Work it out.
Get stronger and brainier at the same time. Research has found just half an hour of aerobic exercise can improve our brain-processing speed and other important cognitive abilities. Jog a few laps around the block and see if you donāt come back with a few more IQ points.
Daaaance to the music.
As anyone whoās ever relied on Rihanna to make it through an all-night study session knows, music can help beat stress. And while everyoneās got a different tune preference, classical music in particular has been shown to reduce anxiety and tension. So give those biology notes a soundtrack and feel at least some of the stress slide away.
Nix the ānet.
Weāve all been there, facing the siren call of a friendās Facebook wall on the eve of a giant exam. If a computerās necessary for studying, try an app (such as this one) that blocks the Internet for a short period of time and see how much more you get done.
Say om.
Just before staring at a piece of paper for three hours, stare at a wall for three minutes. Research suggests meditation can reduce anxiety and boost attention span. While those studies focus mostly on regular meditation, thereās no harm in trying it out for a few minutes to calm pre-test jitters.
Doze off.
When thereās a textbook full of equations to memorize, it can be tempting to stay up all night committing them to memory (or trying to). But all-nighters rarely lead to an automatic Aāin fact, theyāve been linked to impaired cognitive performance and greater sensitivity to stress Ā . In the days leading up to a big exam, aim to get those seven to nine hours a night so sleep deprivation doesnāt undo all the hard work youāve put in.
Own the Omegas.
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in certain fish, nuts, and olive oil, are known for their brain-boosting potential. One study found that eating a combination of Omega-3-and Omega-6 fatty acids before an exam actually reduced test anxiety.
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in certain fish, nuts, and olive oil, are known for their brain-boosting potential. One study found that eating a combination of Omega-3-and Omega-6 fatty acids before an exam actually reduced test anxiety Ā .
Feel free to inhale.
Dusty old library again⦠or spa day? Research has found that catching a whiff of essential oils (like rosemary or lavender) can help calm students down before a big exam  . Skip the frantic last-minute review and try a few minutes of aromatherapy instead.
Practice your brain pose.
Hardcore yogis tend to have better cognitive abilitiesāespecially attention spanāthan folks less familiar with Down Dog Ā . A few daily sun salutations may be all it takes to keep centered during finals period.
Learn what works.
Some people are early birds; some are night owls; some prefer to study with a pal; others need complete and total silence. Experiment to find whatās most effective for you, and then stick with it!

I enjoyed making this reviewer, and It really was significantly more fun to study with colorful summarized notes! I was two points short of a perfect score, but Iām happy with that! Thank You, God! How I Make History Timelines
omlĀ so I was halfway done making this post but my computer crashed and so I have to do it all over again :ā-)) but HEY GUYS! this is how I made my history timeline. THANK YALL SO MUCH FOR 150+ FOLLOWERS!!Ā
Step 1: Plan Your Timeline
Write out the years and events you need in your timeline on a separate piece of paper. You donāt have to elaborate here. This is just for reference later on so you donāt miss out any dates and to plan out your space.
Step 2: Name your Timeline
I did my timeline on a blank A5 notebook in landscape, but you can do whatever you prefer. Give your timeline a name eg. the chapter itās from or the main event. This is for easy reference later on. Next, place your ruler in the middle of the paper and draw 2 lines on each side of it. Leave some space at the end of the lines as you will draw an arrowhead there. Draw another arrowhead at the start of the 2 lines. It should look something like this:

How to make the most of summer (masterpost)
Iām not claiming to be an expert in APUSH (Especially since scores havenāt come out yet). But I feel pretty comfortable with the subject and feel capable of helping you nerds taking it next year.Ā
1. The Curriculum: Ok so this is how itās gonna be set up. You have 9 different periods. Each of these periods are broken up into different historical time periodsā¦which is why itās called periods.
**Pre period 1: Native American livingĀ
Period 1: 1491-1607
Period 2: 1607-1754
Period 3: 1754-1800
Period 4: 1800-1848
Period 5:Ā 1844ā1877
Period 6:Ā 1865ā1898
Period 7:Ā 1890ā1945
Period 8:Ā 1945ā1980
Period 9:Ā 1980āpresent
Now the exam is going to be focused on historical thinking skills which include:
Chronological reasoning
Historical causationĀ
Continuity & change over time
Periodization (Grouping your info & fitting it into periods)
Comparison & contextualization
Comparison
Contextualization (Connecting history into a broader perspective)
Crafting historical arguments from historical evidence
Historical argumentation (You get a question, now you must be able to properly construct an argument to answer it basically)
Using relevant historical info [RHI] (These are your proper nouns & using specific terms NOT USED IN THE QUESTION OR PASSAGE ex. Thomas Jefferson, Bolshevik Revolution, Potsdam Conference, etc.)
When you write short answers, long essays, & DBQs, you need to be able to categorize the info you write into something called BAG PIPE
Belief systems: Ideas, beliefs, culture
America in the world (Global scale)
Geography & enviro, physical & human geo
Politics & power
Identity: Race, class, gender, etc.Ā
Peopling: Migration & immigration, settlement, movement
Economy: Work, exchange, technology
2. The Exam: TheĀ is going to be broken up into 4 different sections
55 Multiple ChoiceĀ (40% of exam & 55 mins)
A majority of these are stimulus based, meaning you will be given a short passage, graph, political cartoon, etc. used to answer the question. Usually youāll have from 2-5 questions to go along with each stimulus.
4 Short Answer (20% of exam & 45 mins)
Again, you will be given a stimulus for all 4 of the questions. The 4 questions are actually broken down into that shitty system where itās 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, etc.Ā
You have 23 lines to write on for each question.
1 Document Based Question [DBQ] (25% of exam & 60 mins)
You will be given 6-7 documents (Political cartoon, graph, letter, etc.)Ā
You will be given a question and using the documents along with relative historical info (RHI), you must answer the question.Ā
You will be given 15 mins to read over the documents & outline your essay.Ā
The max points you can be given on a DBQ is 7. View the rubric here on page 121.
1 Long Essay (15% of the exam & 35 mins)
You will be given no stimulus.Ā
You have the option of answering 1 of the 2 questions given.Ā
You donāt get bonus points for doing both so DONāT DO IT.Ā
Part of the 15 mins used for reading the docs in the DBQ can be used to outline your long essay as well.
3. Tackling the Exam: #1 rule. Use your time wisely and answer everything.Ā
MCĀ
You have 1 min to answer each MCQ. Youāre not actually going to use up the full 1 min to answer every question though, thank God.Ā
Ok, so you might not know the answer right off the bat. Use process of elimination. Thereās usually 1 āok this looks hella wrongā answer, 1 āok this looks OKā answer, and 2Ā āthis looks like it could be itā answers. Once you narrow it down to 2 answers, reread the question. 1 of those answers is more right than the other and fits the question better.
If youāre crunched for time, skip the question. Go ahead & mark something down for it, but put a star next to it so you can go back and make changes later if you have time left.
Ok so hereās something super useful: Remember like 3 major events & their dates from each period. Itās preferred if you can remember a hell of a whole lot more than that though. If you can do that, you can begin to insert smaller events into the time frame and associate it with shit likeĀ āOh hey!!! That was in the Second Great Awakening!ā Itāll help, trust me.Ā
You might ask yourselfĀ āwtf is this question trying to ask?ā Ignore the fancy words & focus on the raw question.
Short Answer
Donāt over think the questions.Ā
Donāt over analyze the stimulus.Ā
Try to write small if you think youāre going to need all 23 lines.
The short answer is pretty straightforward actually. Make sure you address the question and donāt try to skip your way around it and BS it w/ fancy words. Remember, this is content theyāre grading, not your English skills.Ā
Use your RHI when applicable.
REMEMBER: Just answer the fucking question. No BS.Ā
Even if you donāt know what to write, WRITE SOMETHING (Especially in cases where you need RHI). Pull something from your arse and try to make it relevant to the question, but historical accuracy is still important.
DBQ
OUTLINE YOUR ESSAY. This is coming from someone who NEVER outlines anything. Utilize those 15 mins. This is how I recommend you do it:
Thesis: ANSWER THE FUCKING PROMPT. Try to include 3 topics to write about concerning the prompt. Develop an argument. Donāt be vague.Ā
For example, what you shouldnāt do as a thesis:Ā āThe Articles of Confederation was ineffective in supporting America as a new nation due to its lack of structure for solving social, economical, and political problems.ā or some shit like that.
Instead:Ā āThe Articles of Confederation was ineffective in solving many of the problems America faced due to its lack of structure. For example, it failed to create a system of checks and balances and failed to establish a government necessary to carry out the basic governmental processes. Lastly, it ultimately failed to create unity within the nation.āĀ
HIPPO: AKA what you need to address for every doc. When you use the docs to support your argument, make sure it addresses one of the following.
H- Historical context: Whatās going on during the time period? What just happened? Whatās going to happen? How is the doc representative of the time period?
I- Intended audience: Who is the person/audience the author is trying to address? Is there a specific person or audience? Why are they specifically being addressed?Ā
P- Purpose: What is the author trying to do? Are they trying to persuade, oppose, question, encourage, warn, clarify, demand, inspire, apologize, compromise, etc.?Ā
P- Point of view: Who wrote the doc? What do they believe in? What are their values or viewpoints?Ā
O- Organization: Make sure your DBQ is well organized. Do it based on topic and not in chronology.
Relevant historical info (RHI): Basically, this is your outside info and your proper nouns. Donāt throw in RHI just to throw it in. It has to support your argument in some fashion.
Contextualization: This is placing the event in a broader timespan. So for example, isolation, industrialization, economic & cultural growth, migration & immigration from rural to urban or vice versa, modernization, etc.Ā
Synthesis: Connect the event to another time period in history. Find comparisons or changes. Use BAG PIPE to help with synthesis so that your synthesis addresses them.Ā
Long Essay
Choose 1 of the questions & stick to answering it. I repeat: CHOOSE 1 & STICK TO IT.
Itās basically the same thing as a DBQ minus the documents. Youāre going to do the same process more or less.Ā
