Tarot 101: Card Keywords
One thing many people struggle with when learning to read tarot is keeping track of card meanings. While I donât recommend learning tarot like flashcards, you certainly can. But donât think thereâs anything wrong will using a guide book or your notes while you read your cards until you start to commit things to memory and develop your intuitive abilities and a relationship with your deck. Itâs all part of the process.Â
Remember! While each card does have keywords associated with it, cards work together in a spread like words in a sentence. It is incredibly difficult to get the full picture if you read each card only with a handful of keywords. Also, keep in mind that this is a short list of keywords for each card. Each keyword has its negatives, and there are many more that apply to each card.Â
Numerical Keywords:
Ace (1): Beginnings, potential
Twos: Balance, harmony, dichotomy
Threes: Communication, interaction (think âthreeâs a partyâ), outside influence
Fours: Rest, Contemplation
Fives: Conflict, Loss
Sixes: Growth, challenges overcome, understanding
Sevens: Fate, confidence, truth
Eights: Work, change, perseverance
Nines: Consequences and rewards
Tens: Endings (end of a cycle)
Pages: Messages, youth, information
Knights: Movement, adventure, experience
Queens: Power, potential, advice (think motherly advice)
Kings: Authority, power, structure
The Suits
Cups: Emotions (love, feelings, relationships), Connections, Water, Intuition
Wands: Spirituality, Personality, Illusions, Impulses, Fire, Energy
Swords: Action, Power, Conflict, Judgement, Air, Thoughts
Pentacles: Material (money, property, etc.), Manifestation, Indulgence, Earth
The Major Arcana
The Fool: Beginnings, naivety, innocence, risks/reckless behavior
The Magician: Manifestation, inspiration, manipulation, talent
The High Priestess: Intuition, divinity, secrets, withdrawal
The Empress: Beauty, motherly nurturing, abundance, dependenceÂ
The Emperor: Authority (fatherly), structure, rules, lack of control
The Hierophant: Wisdom, tradition, culture, religion, freedom
The Lovers: Love, balance, relationships, choices
The Chariot: Control, determination, action, discipline
Strength: Strength, influence, untethered emotions
The Hermit: Isolation, guidance, introspection
The Wheel of Fortune: Cycles, fate/destiny, luck, change
Justice: Justice, law, cause and effect, accountability
The Hanged Man: Martyrdom, surrender, change of perspective, delay
Death: Change, death, endings, transitions
Temperance: Balance, patience, healing, alignment
The Devil: Obsession, shadows, addiction, restrictions/limitations
The Tower: Chaos, dramatic change, awakenings, transformation, fear
The Star: Hope, spirituality, despair, disconnects

I had class at the gardens today and while I was eating lunch by the pond, watching the family of ducks that comes into the picnic area to beg for food. Today, the mother mallard had her offspring in tow. The sight was very adorable and resulted in much salad and fries being thrown thier way. I was only sort of paying attention to thier movments when the following conversation took place at the next table over:
Toddler, just learning how to talk: *excited gasp*Â A FUCK!
Mother: JENNA NO!
Jenna, bouncing up and down with glee: BABYS! BABY FUCKS! BABY FUCKS!
Mother, hissing whisper of desperation: J e n n a  p l e a s e !
Jenna, ecstatic:FEEDA FUCKS! FEEDA FUCKS!
Jenna, turning to me and gesturing: BABY FUCKS!!
Me: Yeah! Did you know a baby Duck is called a Duckling?
Jenna: !!!!!
Jenna: MOMMY! FUCKLEYS!
Mother: Iâm so sorry.
Me: Are you kidding? This is the highlight of my week.
Jenna, chanting as shes loadedint the stroller and wheeled away: BA-BY FUCK-LEY! BA-BY FUCK-LEY! BA-BY FUCK-LEY!
The ducks continued their search for fries, uncaring.
Edward Elric is such a good character because heâs just chaos incarnate. Thereâs nothing about this child that isnât chaotic to the extreme. He dresses in leather pants, platform boots, and a bright red coat. He became a state alchemist at 12 after attacking the president. He tried to resurrect the dead when he was 11. He became an atheist after literally meeting god. He brings a massive statue of a false god to life to punch a false prophet in the face in chapter 2. When he got impaled by a pole he used part of his own lifeforce to seal the wound. When he transmutates something he adds a gothic/dramatic details to it. His dad is an immortal walking talking philosopherâs stone and the last survivor of a dead nation. He fistfought god and won. He overthrew a government at 16. He outsmarted god by giving up his alchemy and using that to commit what was essentially the first successful human transmutation. This kid doesnât just thrive on drama, he is drama.Â

âNo matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells all.â

I wish Neil Gaiman hadn't given Crowley black wings in the tv series. Now I'm seeing an explosion of "angels have white wings and they turn black when they fall" headcanons in art and fic. I do not like that headcanon very much. I do not like the association of light colors with moral purity and dark colors with corruption. Maybe if you think about it for a minute you can figure out why using color as a short-hand for morality is an iffy thing to do.
Besides...... it's just BORING. Give me angels with a rainbow of wing colors, please.

Report: 95% Of Grandfathers Got Job By Walking Right Up And Just Asking
Fun story my history teacher told us: his grandfather during the industrial revolution walked past a flyer which said âlooking for smart strong boysâ so he went into the factory, said âiâm strong and smartâ, and he had that job from age 13 to 78
and this is why they expect the younger generation to simply âget a jobâ ahh itâs so much clearer now
#basically everyone aged Baby Boomer and up #still canât wrap their heads around the fact that thereâs no such thing as âjust walking inâ anymore #like the majority of jobs youâd actually want require online applications and youâre lucky to get a rejection email (via halffizzbin)
Hereâs another fun story: My boss decided to slap my work phone number on all the ads we post looking for newspaper carriers. So I receive a bunch of calls from people looking for jobs. Working only part time, Iâm not usually there when they call, so they have to leave a message and I take their info to pass on to my boss. Sometimes it can be weeks before my boss calls any of these applicants back, if at all. How the callers respond to not getting a callback varies. Most donât do anything, but some call again. If the person sounds young, they may leave another message clarifying their qualifications and reaffirming their interest. If the person is old, and I can always hear it in their voice, they respond by getting mad, threatening to cancel their newspaper subscription, and occasionally swearing. The older generation is used to getting a callback, and an immediate one, so they throw a tantrum when they donât get what they want.
And everyone calls Millennials entitled.
Mind. Blown.
This is great info, but the way the headline is phrased made it sound like they got the job of being a grandfather by walking right up and just asking
Older generations also started out in the shittiest of shit positions, but quickly moved up if they proved themselves and worked HARD.
So when a boomer or older sees a âwhiny millennial crying about how they want $15/hour for flipping burgersâ itâs because they think itâs still that easy to get recognized for doing a great job, so it must be the millennialâs fault for not trying hard enough to get noticed and move up the ladder.
Older generations donât realize employers now donât give a shit about the people working for them, donât recognize when someone is a valued employee, donât move them up in the company, and donât increase pay based on work performance.
Employers now are too focused on keeping the hours per employee down so they donât have to give them insurance and forcing them to work as hard as possible while also paying them next to nothing.
This is NOT how it used to be, and once a boomer or older really realizes this, they get super pissed at what has happened to the workplace these days. Iâve seen it happen with my parents and grandparents. My uncle didnât realize it until he got a job at Walmart that lasted for two months because he couldnât take it anymore and didnât move up the ladder.
My grandfather was a really good businessman back in the day, and when I laid it all out for him, he was livid and said âthatâs NOT how you get good employees. You get good employees by treating them like a human being, paying them what theyâre worth, and pushing them to do better by following through on promises youâve made to reward them for that good behavior and showing that youâre worthy of their respect and hard work by working hard yourself.â
The more the media and capitalism corrupts everyone, the more we take sides, the less we empathize with each other. Itâs not as much a baby boomer problem as it is a corruption problem and lies being shoved down everyoneâs throats, separating everyone to the point where they hate each other.
divide and conquer.
