Wake Up Call

It’s been such a crazy month for me lately. Usually, I get my chance to sleep and get the rest I damn well deserve from working so hard, but lately that hasn’t been the case. Flying from coast to coast, closing deals with some of the biggest brands in fashion & entertainment and now, an upcoming reality show…it’s a lot to deal with. I just want to sleep, FOREVER! Okay, that may be a stretch, but I just want to sleep.

“Wake up, baby. You’re going to be late.” As I’m sleeping, I can hear a little voice, but I figure it’s just the television or something that I just can’t let wake me out of this sleep. Then I realize, it’s Taylor…my boyfriend. “Okay, okay! I’m up, I’m up.”, squinting as Taylor opens the curtains, revealing the bright and sunny NYC skyline. “You go live on Wendy in about two hours and you’re still in bed, babe. Come on, let’s go, let’s go.” He’s begins clapping loudly & he pulls the covers from my resting body, giving me total shock from the cold air. “Taylor…ten more minutes, come on babe.”, I replied in a whimpering, exhausted voice. “You don’t know what you’re going to wear, your stylist is here, steaming some shit, waiting on you to get up. Babe, come on.”, replies Taylor as he looks at me, with those hazel eyes. Those eyes get me every time. It was those eyes that reeled me in and it was those eyes that got him in my bedroom. Ahh, good times. Any who, I guess I should get up now. As I get out of bed, there sits Hanna, looking at me and Taylor, laughing. She looked at me, “B, you reeeeeally need to get this sleeping schedule together. I mean, I got here an hour ago, with these choices we discussed over the phone last week. Since you only shop once a month, I decided to even pick up some other pieces I think you’d really like.” “Hanna, you’re amazing.”, I replied. “You know me so well. It took a long time to find a stylist who knows not only my body but the way I think & how I see things.” “That’s cute and all, but we have a lot to do. Get out your feelings and get into these Armani trousers I just steam pressed.”

Hanna has been my stylist for the last six months. I met her on the set of a photo shoot for an underwear ad campaign I was doing for Calvin Klein. She and I hit it off as soon as we met. I knew at that moment, she’d have to work with me. Every since hiring her, I’ve been photographed out and about in some of the biggest magazines out there. Hell, I was even named one if the best dressed guys in Hollywood. Mind you, all of this happened in a matter of six months.

“Your phone has been ringing off the hook too. Six missed calls from Orin, four missed calls from Austin, seven messages from Lauren.”, she says. “Yeah, that’s what they do when something big is happening & I don’t answer, they hassle me.”, I reply. “They’re all on their way to the studio from what they all texted. I read the group message.” Hanna says. “You tried it. Girl give me my damn phone.”, as I jack the phone from her in a joking manner.

My best friends are like my family. With my mom’s passing & my dad not really being in my life, I’ve never really had the chance to have a true family dynamic in my life, until I met them of course.

Orin Fitzgerald is the free spirit of the group. He’s a big time Los Angeles accountant. When I say big time, I mean Paris Hilton big time, Kanye West big time. He manages the spending habits of some of the biggest names out there. As it pertains to his love life, whatever he can stick his penis into, other than animals, he’s attracted to. I met him back in college. He & I were roommates. Boy, was that an interesting year of college. Austin Stevens-Alexander is my friend of six years. He’s one of Hollywood’s best plastic surgeons. He’s the reason we really keep up with the Kardashians. He’s happily married. He and his husband Guy have been married for three years and they are both in the medical field. Coins honey, coins. Last, but not least, we have my beautiful, intelligent Laura Love. She’s THE divorce attorney. You need a divorce? Husband not treating you right? Is your wife dipping into your personal accounts without you knowing? Call Laura. She’s the best of the best. She’s newly engaged to her club owner fiancé, Falon Ortiz. She’s the lesbian lover of the group.

My best friends keep me grounded & out of a lot of trouble. I love them, all of them.

“Babe, the filming crew is here!”, Taylor screamed from the living room. “Damn! Today is the first day of filming. I forgot!” I start shooting this new reality show that my good friend, Nene Leakes is producing called, “The Winner’s Circle”. It follows the lives of young people thriving in their fields & interacting with each other. The catch, no one knows each other. I mean, we may have seen each other in passing here and there, but I guess this is something good to be apart of. I’m all about building my brand & plus, I’ve never really done reality television before so it’s all really new for me. I’m sure it’d going to do great. Anything Nene touches, it turns gold.

“Shit, let them in. This is some good camera time.”, I tell Taylor. Taylor then opens the door, greet them and it’s two camera men & one other guy. “Where’s Brian? Is he here?”, the director says. Then I reply, “I’m back here, just turn the camera on! This body is good footage.” As they laugh, they come and the cameras begin to record. “Just act natural.”, whispers the director.

So I decide to start up conversation with Taylor. “Babe, come in here.”, I ask. Taylor walks in shirtless, wearing nothing but his dress pants. “Yeah, what’s up babe?”, he replied. “What’s this whole press conference about? I mean, I know you’re really nervous about it.”, I asked him. “Well, with me getting picked up by a team like the Brooklyn Nets, after me coming out to the world as the first out gay NBA player, they want to ask me questions…a lot of questions.”, he replied.

Yes, my boyfriend plays professional basketball and yes, he’s one of the best ball players out there. SportsCenter referred to him as “Michael Jordan reincarnated”. That’s a big deal. We met at the Espy’s about two years ago. I was presenting an award he ended up winning. It was the same year of my first big break. I was presenting “Rookie of the Year”. What a coincidence, right? He didn’t grow to fond of me, as many “straight” athletes aren’t because of how open I am about my sexuality. After the awards show, I went to an after party with a few of my friends. He was there. Scary enough, I thought because he was hosting it, he’d have me put out or he’d do some real, awkward avoidance type stuff. But, he ended up walking up to me and thanking me for being there. Then, he complemented my Jimmy Choo loafers, in a dark club. At that moment, I knew he wanted it. No straight man pays THAT much attention to another man, let alone his shoes, in a dark club filled with all types of women. The rest, after that night, was history. He came out about two months ago to the world but we still haven’t made it official that we’re together. The speculation is over once this show airs.

Taylor and I end our dialogue and began to head out of my SoHo loft, jump into a town car and head to the Wendy show studio, together. The cameras follow us as well, as all of this will be filmed for content.

You know, I can’t help but think about how far we’ve come. The secret dates, the various secret vacations spent in Australia & Paris, we don’t have to do that anymore. He looks at me likes he loves me, like a part of him lives inside of me and I can honestly say that he does.

“We’re here babe.”, Taylor utters, looking out the window as the paparazzi stand outside of our car, waiting on my arrival. “Are you ready?”, I asked him. He looked at me, licked his lips & kissed me. “Of course I am. It’s time to let the world know that I’m off the market.”, he replies while caressing my face. Then he says,“I love you, Brian.” Did he just say he loved me? This is the first time this has happened since we’ve been together. I mean, we both knew what was up between us, but verbally it’s never been expressed. I was totally taken off guard. “I love you too, Taylor.”, I replied.

I open the door to make my way into the studio & fans & paps begin screaming, as camera lights flicker all over. Once I get out of the car, Taylor follows after me, holding my hand. The paparazzi notice this and the camera lights almost seem like they have quadrupled. I sign a few photos, kiss a few babies and go inside the studio.

One of the production managers come up to me, shaking my hand. “Brian Warner, so nice to meet you. Welcome to the show.”, he says. I shake his hand firmly & introduce him to Hanna and Taylor, who really needs no introduction. “Taylor Brown! Man! My kids are huge fans of yours man! I can’t believe I’m shaking your hand man! You have to bring the championship to New York City this year!”, the production manager says to Taylor, as he is in total awe of him. “I got you man. Thank you for the support too, you and your kids. And that championship, don’t worry about that. We got it this year.”, he replied while shaking his hand.

As they have this macho man fest, I have to get ready for this show. This is my first Wendy Williams interview, so of course I’m nervous. She knows it all. I’ve watched a few times but ultimately, I’ve been swamped with too much work to really be able to sit & watch television.

It’s time for my interview and suddenly, I feel relaxed as ever. I remember that I’m a people person, so I can talk to anyone about literally anything. I’m ready for whatever Ms.Williams has for me. Then everything gets quiet. Wendy then introduces me. “Welcome back you guys. So I’m so excited for you guys to meet my first guest. It’s our first time having him on the show and he’s a rising actor and television personality. Please welcome Brian Warner to the show!”. As I come out, the crowd goes crazy. Who knew these people followed my career and were so welcoming. Hell, here I am thinking no one knows me. I hug Wendy, compliment her shoes and take my seat. “Your shoes look amazing, girl!”, I say again. “My shoes? Look at your shoes! Give him some shoe cam!”, she replies. “What are you wearing by the way?”, she asks. “I’m wearing Giorgio Armani head to toe and as for my shoes, I’m giving you a little tease of my loafer collection coming out with Public School NYC.”, I replied.

As the interview goes on, it’s smooth sailing all the way through. Then we go to commercial break. She comes over to me and whispers in my ear. “How’s your love life?” “It’s going good, he’s actually here with me in the audience.”, “So, Brian…the streets have been talking. We keep up with you a bit on our show and we’ve been waiting to ask you about this. This hot topics story came to us fresh this morning.”, she says. “Okay? What is it?”, I reply. “So, Stacy Lawrence, this video vixen girl who claimed to be pregnant for your boyfriend…is it true?”, she asks.

All of a sudden, everything stopped. Everything. My heart stopped beating. My mind stopped thinking. I’m stuck. My first reaction was to just go on this roaring, out of control tangent on live television, but I know how to deal with this stuff. I’m a people person, remember. You have to know how to deal with noisy people. No shade.

“Well, Wendy…I can honestly tell you that I have no idea. This is actually the first I’m hearing of it. I’m sure it’s false. I mean, who is this girl?”, I replied. “She wants her fifteen seconds & I won’t give her that. I’ll leave that to you and your team of noisy people.”
