Thought I'd try this fun thing with my personal jedtavius headcanons and add a little back story to each one, might split this up into two posts. I'm horribly bored if you couldn't tell.
Just a fair warning I personally believe that the exhibits remember things from their historical counterparts lives, and this affects their personality traits.
These are also my headcanons, so you do not need to agree with them. Read at your own enjoyment. If you do not ship jedtavius, then this probably is not for you.
1. Who is the most affectionate?
Octavius, naturally, is the most affectionate. He had three wives, and other lovers, while Jedediah never married and was too devoted to his expeditions for much dating. Plus there weren't that many women in the rural mountains he was exploring besides the ones brought on his travels, and they typically had husbands. Jedediah also isn't really the PDA type, but that doesn't mean he shows no affection at all.
The most common argument is who gets to pick the next kitten video/movie or over their vastly different food palettes. If they do want to eat together, Jed gets a little weirded out by Octavius laying on his side, the lack of some utensils, and the roasted dormouse. Octavius is not a fan of canned baked beans or roasted grasshoppers, and does not like to sit up right while eating. This has caused numerous disagreements, and continues to.
Octavius typically apologizes first, but not by much. I feel like after the events of the first movie, they both became more self-aware and knew that they preferred comradeship over fighting. This is why they both can acknowledge their wrongs and apologize for major things. They don't like real arguments, but a little friendly bickering or slight disagreements often happen. They both hold bad grudges.
4. Favorite activity to do together?
Favorite activity to do together would be ride in the R.C. car, or watch movies/videos on the computer. Octavius likes the car a little less, but Jed loves driving, and happy wife happy life.
5. Who drives and who rides shotgun?
Jed drives and Octavius is canonically a passenger princess. Jed feels powerful when driving, ego boost and such. Octavius couldn't care less for driving. He enjoys the adrenaline rush he gets from Jed speeding and the potential to get stepped on, though (They're both adrenaline junkies 😭)
6. Who is most likely to carry the other?
They don't really carry each other, unless in an emergency or immediate danger. In that case they can both pick each other up, though it's admittedly easier for Octavius. Octavius is a military commander and general of his legion so he tries to maintain a strong physique. Jed is basically just as strong from working on the railroad and other camp tasks, but was created with less visible muscle than Octavius, since the whole buff Roman gladiator thing. Octavius is actually seen as having a weaker physique than some of his men. Due to this a common joke in the legion is about Octavius' femininity.
Jed has a range of nicknames on the belt for Octavius, but mainly sticks with "'Tavius" (this is not just his accent anymore, it's intentional) or "Kemosabe". Octavius calls Jedediah Roman insults, lovingly (most of the time), but he has also taken a liking to "Diah" occasionally. He mainly prefers Jedediah's full name, it being foreign to his culture, and he likes the way it rolls off the tongue.
Octavius would most likely propose, as he has done such before and knows Jedediah is hesitant to take next steps when it includes intimacy (friend or lover) especially in a romantic relationship.
9. Who sings along with the radio?
Jedediah sings along with the radio, especially if it's any form of Country, 80s, or 2010s music. Octavius likes Jedediah's voice, but can't stand this most of the time. He mainly just doesn't like anything but classical or Roman music, and even prefers silence over that a majority of the time.
They both worry, but Octavius a great deal more than Jedediah. This is especially when he believes Jedediah is making a stupid decision (but backs him up anyway) or for the welfare of his people. Octavius is an overthinker, especially in his position of leader. Jedediah just goes with his instincts. Octavius would never admit it even though it's obvious.
11. Who always wants to take selfies with the other?
They equally love taking selfies, but it's canon Octavius "takes a mean selfie" as said on the "Who's Who at the Museum" poster that came out for the release of Secret of the Tomb. So, Octavius is probably the one taking most of the selfies.
12. Who likes to playfully tease the other?
They equally playfully tease and piss each other off.
13. Who has a weirdest taste in their music?
I'd say Jed has a weirder music taste, he enjoys a vast majority of certain things, and it's cliche but his favorite is in fact, country music. Octavius will simply listen to the Nutcracker ballet score, Mozart, or Musical soundtracks and be content (he would never admit this to anyone other than Larry who puts it on for him and Jedediah who caught him listening to it, as it's a "disgrace" to his culture)
14. Who always remembers what the other orders at a restaurant?
Jedediah will always remember what Octavius ordered at either the saloon or Roman restaurants/pubs subconsciously. Jedediah has a great memory, but it's unwilling and he has no control over what's memorized. Octavius can't remember a lot of things unless they matter to him or stuck out to him in some way.
15. Who is embarrassed to take their clothes off in front of the other?
This goes both ways depending on their situation, but Jed is typically more uncomfortable taking his clothes off in general. Octavius feels immensely unprofessional and disgraced when he removes his armour or clothing outside of his diorama, as he believes it shows that he does not take his duties as a general and leader seriously. Though, when in his city, nudity is no stranger to him, as the Romans had much different beliefs of nudity, it was not inherently a sexual thing. This is mainly shown through his enjoyment of the public baths. Jedediah dislikes nudity, growing up in the middle class of the early 19th century, nudity was not acceptable in the presence of others besides between betrothed couples. This concept of modesty carried with him even through his expeditions with other rowdy and "indecent" mountain men.
Switches. Mainly Jed, though.
17. Who initiates kisses?
Octavius typically, but Jedediah will if he's feeling it.
18. Who reaches for the others hand first?
Hand holding is just about as affectionate Jedediah will get in public spaces. Octavius is apparently no stranger to it though, considering what happened in the third movie. They both reached for each other's hands at the end of the third movie as well, so they probably both reach for each other's hands consecutively.
20. Who is most ticklish?
Octavius, but only his feet (He can't stand that Jedediah knows) Jedediah's sides are borderline ticklish, but not as bad as Octavius.
21. Who brings an animal they found home?
Jedediah. Octavius may like watching cat videos, but doesn't exactly like the concept of pets. Jedediah will go out of his way to help any animals that are hurt or lost, but will refrain from showing how much he cares and brushes it off to save face. He will bring some to his tent occasionally if they need rehabilitation for some time.
22. Who holds the umbrella for the other when it's raining?
Well when Jed and Octavius are caught in any type of harsh weather while saving the tablet, Larry will typically put them in his pocket. If they don't have Larry at that moment, Octavius will use his cape to protect them both. So, Octavius for the win.
23. Who tries to playfully embarrass the other in public?
They both do this. Maybe Jed a little more than Octavius, though.
24. Who kills the scary bugs?
Both. Since normal bugs to them are larger than them, they team up. Though, they try to avoid killing any and instead just try to avoid running into spiders and such, avoiding dusty parts of the museum where most of the bugs linger.
25. Who asks the weird questions at random in the middle of the night?
Well, since the middle of the night is basically mid-day for them, they're typically eating lunch or watching cat videos. And it's Octavius. He'll pop a grape in his mouth, laying on his side and ask something like "Do you think we go to the heavens if we die, like this? Plastic and such." With the tone like he just asked what someone's favorite color is.
