Both Ivan and Till are kinda anxious about the prospect of losing touch after graduation and it's already prom time... but Ivan hides it perfectly while Till is visibly bothered by something and Ivan thinks that Till frets over Mizi. Ivan accepts some girl's invite cuz it's a given that he has to go and mingle and he doesn't understand why Till is so annoyed when he hears about it. Is it because Ivan is going instead of skipping like Till cuz it's stupid? Is it why he is vehemently repeating he will be absent?

Till may be an outcast but he's also a romantic, sensitive at that... But no one would ever ask him to go. Not Ivan. Why would he, when everyone wants him and he was apparently fine with one of the first invites thrown his way? And they're just... friends. Ivan wouldn't go with him.

Till does like Mizi, but as a friend only. She convinces him to go, saying that her classmate felt shy to ask Till out. Till thought he'd end up alone in his room that evening, blasting music for distraction, but he agrees. He kind of feels... petty. Would Ivan even care?

Ivan does care worryingly too much. Before he knows it, he charms and steals Till's partner for a dance, not bearing to see them, briefly leaving his own partner behind, and of course Till, who feels humiliated and angry and like crying- he has to get out before the held back tears fall.

Ivan correctly connects Till's anger to the situation, and feels sickeningly ecstatic. Because if he can't have Till's love, affection and warmth, then he wants all that's ugly, even if Till ends up hating him.
