I really enjoyed my time with the Building Service Agency (BSA). Working in the city and traveling to many sites in Victoria. I further improvement my knowledge with Sanitary Engineering
I was with the Council for only 3 months and it was the start of my Career in Local Government. My main duties included Design an easement drain in a lane way as a Drainage scheme. This included taking levels on site. I also was given a design and construction project. The project was the construction of a car park and access road. Other duties included investigation of drainage and traffic complaints. Also I did some drafting and feature survey.
Working with the City of Caulfield was my first Local Government work. I previously applied for a position there and I did not get it. But a Senior Engineer took Long Service Leave and that gave me an opportunity to work temporarily for 3 months. City of Caulfield was amalgamated with neighbouring Councils in the mid 1990's and is now know as City of Glen Eira. I was there in from 18 March 1985 to 28 June 1985. Just over 3 months. I left there to work on a permanent position with the City of Mordialloc as Engineer Grade 1

One of my roles when I was at the City of Whitehorse was to be the Council's MERO ( Municipal Emergency Resource Officer.)
I had an opportunity to Visit the Box Hill Melbourne Fire Brigade station (MFB) with a Councillor. It was a great visit and I learnt a lot on how valuable and brave the fire fighters are. I went on a cherry Picker and it was a wonderful experience. I tried also on some of the fire fighting equipment. I found them more difficult to use than when I looked at an expert using them.
Thank You Box Hill MFB 👍😀👍😀
This was my work station at Whitehorse. It was such a long time ago and the technology looks primitive. I think there were no smart phones then and had to use a camera to take photos.
I had a lot of drawing by Alexandra and had a a favourite quote of mine on the desk - No Involvement , No Commitment. I also had a plant that I looked after.
When I was at Whitehorse Council I had a great privilege to Say Farewell to a Great Engineer. Don Beard retired as an Engineer after 40 year career.
The photos are from his farewell lunch.
This is a photo of my workstation when I was at Maroondah Council. When I came I inherited a very large CRT monitor that was used for autocad.
It was named the "Brick" as in case of fire you can throw it at the window and escape.
Before I left Council I got a normal size Flat monitor
I only had a short time at Maroondah Council. My main duties included;
> Project Management in the Capital Works Program > Special Charge Schemes > Processing Development referrals from Town Planning > Stormwater Drainage Investigations > Stormwater Quality Improvement (WSUD)

I worked for the Maroondah Council for a short time, but enjoyed it there. I had to adjust working in a smaller office with not as many people. I was Coming from Brimbank and Whitehorse Councils where there were a lot more staff to do work. It was reminiscent of my Mordialloc days where you had to do pretty much everything. This builds character and good knowledge and experience.
While I was at Whitehorse Council I carried out some interesting work. It gave me a broader understanding of the Civil Engineering profession and I acquired new skill as well.
The work that I carried out included
(1) Asset Management (2) Emergency Management (3) Development Stormwater Drainage (4) Public Lighting (5) Structured team thinking (6) management studies and (7) Documentation of Procedures.
I was fortunate to work for a very advanced and professional council like the City of Whitehorse. I was there for three and a half years before moving on to the City of Maroondah.
I was very thankful to be given the opportunity to learn more about Asset management and learn about Emergency management. Also I am very thankful to my Manager Ian Goodes to allow me to complete the Front Line Management Course and being supportive of the asset and emergency management work that I did.
Thank you so much Ian.
I was just over 2 years with the Brimbank Council. I started as a contractor first and I applied and go an ongoing positions as a subdivision Engineer.
I learned a lot with my time at Brimbank Council. I learned about the subdivision process. And what better way to learn by being the Subdivisions Engineer for the creation of a new suburb. I also learnt first hand what happens when large stormwater drains structurally fail and the many ways you can repair them. I am very thankful at the opportunity given to me by Brimbank Council and the support of my colleagues there.

As I am completing my work history at Brimbank City Council, I will like to add 3 more photos that I did not add before.
This photo is for a going away present I received when I left Council. I was honoured to receive such a gift and I still have that watch and I still wear it from time to time. Thank you Brimbank!
This photo is at my induction. This was taken at the hunter club and i am there at the balcony on the right.
This photo was taken by a colleague of mine. It was printed on a black and white inkjet printer. It was a spur of the moment thing. I am lucky that I kept this peace of paper.
I spent many years studying in the Tertiary level. In fact I spent 13 years. This is more than my primary and secondary level education. ( I went to grade 1 not preschool).
I studied 4 different courses at 4 different Universities and Institutes from 1980 to 2005.
I learnt a lot and my career benefited from this learning.
