Hi hi! I don’t remember if you specified it already, but how old is everyone in JORNOS?
Phil, I assume 30s? 40s?
Techno and Wil are like 17? 18? 19?
But what about Tommy? One moment I think he’s 13ish, the other maybe 16?
WHAT ARE THEIR AGES PLEASE
Okay it's been sooooo long since anyone has asked me about their ages I had to go and find where it says how old they are lol.
So when Tommy is first kicked out of the colony, the elders think he’s like 13, because no one knows his exact age. He’s more likely 12 but still acts kinda like he’s 11.
But the story is set 3 years later after this roughly, so technically Tommy thinks he’s 16, but he's actually closer to 14/15 instead. So yeah you're not wrong with thinking Tommy's younger one minute and then older the next because he's still a kid who got forced to grow up. The Crafts are the ones that finally let him just be a kid again.
Twins duo are 19 (Wilbur is older than techno by 2 minutes and holds this over his head all the time as you would have seen in the most recent chapter ;) and Phil is in his late 30s? I didn't know what a good age was for him so we just say he's somewhere in there and you the reader can decide lol.
It's very funny to me how there's a common theme of threes.
13, twins are three years older than Tommy, Phil in his 30s... this fic has ben going for three years.
The Craft family and Tommy go out for a picnic in the park! It's time for bonding, laughter, fun and frisbees! Would could possibly go wrong? :D

“Hurry up Wilbur, or we’ll leave without you.” Technoblade called from the front door where he and Phil were waiting. “Tommy’s probably already at the park and you’re taking forever.”
“Well technically Techno, we’re leaving slightly early.” Phil gently reminded his eldest son as he picked up the picnic blanket.
“Okay great, let’s go then. He can catch up.” Technoblade stated, grabbing the picnic mat from his father. Phil sighed as he moved to the front door.
“Take your time Wilbur, you can always meet us there.”
“HEY!” Wilbur yelled back from his room. “Give me like two more seconds and I’ll be ready! I swear if you leave without me I will go into your room and mess up your book collection!”
Phil smiled fondly as he shook his head.
Today they were all going down to meet Tommy at the park for a picnic, an idea surprisingly put forward by Technoblade. Phil’s not sure when it happened, but Techno and Tommy had been getting along a lot more recently, and even spending one on one time in the garden together sparing, Technoblade helping to refine Tommy’s sword skills- a skill that surprisingly, he was very good at despite no formal training.
The three of them were having dinner together a few days ago when Technoblade brought up how nice the weather had been recently and that they should consider a day out together. It had been a while since they’d all gone out, and the fresh air would do them some good. The teen had suggested a packed lunch and picnic in the park which everyone agreed would be delightful. What had surprised Phil though, was when the pinket suggested they have Tommy come along.
Wilbur had certainly been sceptical of his twin after their fall-out over Tommy, but more recently even he had been getting along with his twin again, the three apparently having hung out a few times whilst Phil was still at work. If his sons were getting along again, then that was enough for Phil to agree, sending the blond a message to tag along.
Tommy had taken a while to respond, his normal response time around eight in the evening- just before movie night normally started, excitedly saying he would meet them there and with an absurd number of excited emojis finishing the text off.
“Touch my collection and your guitar just may need a new string.” Technoblade countered, smirking slightly as the noise of his brother moving about got louder as he rushed to get ready.
“Technoblade…” Phil warned light heartedly, with one brow raised, his son rolling his eyes in response.
“You know I wouldn’t actually do it Dad.” Technoblade said, as he unlocked the door to swing it open with a slight creak of the hinges. “I ain’t dealing with Wilbur on a rampage over a broken string.”
A loud thud sounded down the hallway interrupting the two; presumably Wilbur having fallen over in his haste. Technoblade’s grin grew wider.
“But taunting him certainly is fun.”
Phil sighed, shaking his head fondly, as he picked up the picnic basket from the floor and joined Technoblade out on the front porch, Wilbur racing down the hallway as they did so. He’d thrown on his favourite yellow sweater and looked a tad dishevelled from rushing, but he was ready for the most part.
“I said wait for me!” Wilbur called as he chased his family out the front door, stumbling past them and down the front steps uncontrollably, having to run a few steps forward to catch himself from falling flat on his face again.
“Back here, mop head.” Technoblade teasingly called with a wave.
Wilbur shot him back a glare, but didn’t say anything more, deciding not to give his brother the further satisfaction of his attention, instead marching up to the front gate.
“Well, are we going now or not?” Wilbur asked impatiently, the twins swapping with each other's attitude.
The two teens continued to bicker, Phil opting to ignore them and lock up the house before pushing past them both to lead the way to the park, his mind elsewhere as they walked.
How would Tommy have reacted knowing his boys felt so strongly to see him? Would he have joined in the slander or would he have raced on ahead without them? Perhaps he simply would have stood next to him and watched amused at his son's scuffle.
Someday, Phil hoped he’d know.
A short walk later the Craft family arrived at the park and made their way over to their usual playground drop off point. Since they all knew the spot, it made the most sense to meet there and then pick a spot for the picnic together. The three scanned the area, looking for the familiar blond, but he was nowhere in sight.
“Well you did say we were early.” Wilbur observed as he checked the time on his phone. “He’s probably still coming.”
“Probably.” Technoblade agreed, as he moved over to the playground bench and sat down.
Phil walked over and joined him, placing the picnic basket down on the ground, whilst Wilbur ran over and jumped onto the playground, running up onto one of the higher platforms to get a better vantage point to search for the young blond.
“I’m sure he’s not far away.” Phil assured, leaning back into the bench and getting comfortable. “Tommy has further to walk here than we do. He’ll probably appear from the trees shortly. Just need to be patient.”
“I wish we didn’t have to wait.” Wilbur whined. “I wish Tommy lived with us. Then we wouldn’t have to wait to meet with him ever.”
“You just want a little brother to dote on.” Technoblade joked. “Am I not enough for you, Wimblur?”
Wilbur scoffed amused, turning to lean over the safety railing towards his family.
“Pfft not even close, Pinky.” Wilbur stuck his tongue out at his brother and received one back. “Don't lie, you secretly want him to be yours too. I’ve seen how you get when you two are sparring in the garden.”
Technoblade huffed, looking away, head held high as he crossed his arms, feigning uninterest. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Uh huh, planning this picnic betrays you.” Wilbur laughed as he turned back to look for the blond. “I’m sure Tommy would love to know how meticulous you were when it came to making the sandwiches this morning, Mister I-must-make-the-ham-and-cheese-sandwiches.”
“Oh like you were any better Mister No-one-but-me-will-make-Tommy-dessert.”
“Boys!” Phil cut both his sons off with a laugh, before they could start another bicker fest. “Let’s all agree that you both care equally, and I’m sure Tommy will appreciate how much effort you put into this picnic we arranged together.”
“Unless Wilbur burnt the cake again.” Tommy piped up from behind Phil and Technoblade, causing all three Crafts to snap their heads to the blond who had magically appeared. “In which case I know two of you put the effort in for me.”
“Tommy!” The three Beans exclaimed in unison, staring at the boy in the red oversized hoodie he’d taken to wearing regularly on his visits. “Where’d you come from?”
“The trees.” Tommy responded nonchalantly as he jumped the bench to be in front of Phil and Technoblade rather than behind.
“But I’ve literally been looking for you from up here.” Wilbur called, making his way off the playground, using the slide as a short cut down. “How the heck did you sneak by without me seeing you?”
“Or without us hearing you.” Technoblade added as they all stared dumb founded by Tommy’s sudden appearance.
Tommy smiled knowingly.
He was going to leave the house early to be at the park and wait for the Crafts to arrive, but he hadn’t accounted for how eager they were to see him and almost shifted out front, as Wilbur barrelled out down the stairs. He had hid behind the fence and then waited from a distance before shifting to follow, and shifted back down small to get behind Phil and Technoblade without them seeing him.
He just happened to arrive when the twins' cooking skills were mentioned and that seemed as good a time as any to make himself known, and shifted when Wilbur wasn’t looking in his direction.
“I dunno know. I’m just hella sneaky is all.” The blond shrugged, not giving anything away with a knowing grin. “Nice to know Technoblade took charge of the sandwiches though. I could never trust another one of Wilbur’s after last time.”
“You were the one who wanted to try the ultra spicy hot sauce.” Wilbur countered as he walked over and messed up Tommy’s hair whilst the younger tried to bat him away. “So you can’t blame my sandwich skills over your weak tastebuds.”
“Can too!” Tommy retorted, mocking him as Wilbur relented his hair messing and stepped back. “It was a blatant murder attempt on my tastebuds.”
“Sounds more like a skill issue of your tongue.” Technoblade interjected, which egged the boy on further. “Do better Tommy.”
“Yeah, do better Tommy.” Wilbur teased, a grin plastered across his face as Tommy scrunched his face up with a half-hearted glare.
“This is an injustice and a completely unfair crime which has been committed against me.” Tommy dramatised, falling to his knees in fake despair, then crawled over to Phil in hopes to gain favour. “Phil, Phil! Your sons are out to get me. They tried to poison me!”
Phil shook his head amused, as Tommy grabbed his knees and gave Phil his best pleading face. “How can you stand for such crimes?”
“Pretty easily actually.” Phil replied, literally standing up, knocking Tommy off his knees to the ground with a slight thud. “See?”
Tommy groaned slightly before flipping over onto his back and throwing a hand over his head, feigning hurt. “OH the betrayal Phil! The only one I could trust and you’ve dropped me in the dirt- literally.”
“You’ll live.” Phil giggled, reaching a hand out to help Tommy up, brushing off the dirt clinging to the boy's hoodie. “Now where shall we go for this picnic? Did you see any good spots on your way here Tommy?”
“There’s a great spot a little ways down the path near an old oak tree.” Wilbur piped up, pointing off down a path to the left. “I saw it when I was looking for the gremlin child.”
“Not a child, but that sounds great.” Tommy agreed as he brushed the rest of the dirt from his jeans.
“Says the kid who's covered in dirt.” Technoblade teased as he stood and started off in the direction of the oak tree as Tommy squawked complaints, chasing after him.
Phil shared a look of fondness with Wilbur before the teen raced on after the two who were now in a running race for first one to the oak tree. Phil simply gathered up the picnic basket and rug and leisurely followed after them, watching as the race evolved into a game of tag.
The difference in Tommy now as to when they met was immense. If you hadn’t known him before, you would assume he was just a regular kid running around with his older brothers. A warmth bloomed in Phil's chest at seeing the three boys together.
His boys- Tommy included.
As Phil made it to the tree, Tommy raced over, grabbing Phil by the arm to whip himself behind the older to use him as a shield from Wilbur who stalked after him.
“Phil! Phil! You gotta help me! He’s after me!” Tommy cried, slightly out of breath. “Don’t let Wilbur touch me Phil, or it’s the end!”
Before he could even get out a response, Technoblade appeared from behind, tapping Tommy on the shoulder before he and Wilbur ran off.
“Misdirection!” Technoblade yelled playfully as he and Wilbur hi-fived each other, running off to gain distance.
Tommy looked at his shoulder and back to the twins realising he’d been played, before yelling out how that wasn’t fair, taking off after them demanding revenge.
Phil shook his head fondly, laying the picnic rug out and began setting up the picnic. He pulled out the spread of sandwiches and snacks they’d prepared for lunch, pouring himself an apple juice while the boys ran around chasing each other in the loud game of tag. The sun was up, with a gentle breeze blowing rustling the leaves overhead.
A perfect day, for a perfect outing as laughter filled the air.
Eventually the three rowdy teens began to tire, and joined Phil on the picnic rug to grab a drink and bite to eat. To Phil’s relief, there was no arguing over sandwiches, the three boys tired out from their mucking about and only focused on eating for now. Although he doubted he’d be as lucky with the discussion on dessert.
“Man, when was the last time we were at the park like this? Feels like forever.” Wilbur commented as he reached over for the last sandwich.
“Uhh I think it was like two years or something ago now.” Phil voiced aloud as he counted presumably the years on his fingers. “We’ve gone for walks, but picnics with you two are rare now. Too cool for it now you’re in High School if I recall correctly.”
“No, I think the last time was when Wilbur decided to try competitive frisbee.” Technoblade informed, grabbing the now empty sandwich container to put away. “You should have seen him Tommy, Wilbur was actually pretty good at it considering he sucks at all other sports.”
“Hey I don’t suck at sports! The fact I played frisbee proves that.”
“Yeah but you’re bad at everything else though.”
Wilbur groaned as Tommy tried to muffle a laugh.
“Well at least I’m better at frisbee than you are, Techno.” Wilbur countered as he crossed his arms smugly. “You can’t even throw straight half the time.”
“Yes, I can. You’re just remembering wrong.”
“Could we play friv-bee?” Tommy asked quickly before the twins could set off another bickering rant, intrigued by the two Beans' rivalry over the sport.
“It’s Friss- bee Tommy.” Phil gently corrected, “but I think we lost that frisbee on that outing right? As far as I remember from that day, Technoblade threw it in a tree and it got stuck? I’m not sure.”
“Yeah, I think you’re right Dad. It was Wilbur’s green one and he was so mad about it, he stormed off.” Technoblade replied, as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “Sorry again Wil.”
“It’s all good Tech.” Wilbur smiled appreciating the apology regardless, before a thought popped into his head. “Wait, actually I think I’ve still got the purple disc in my room somewhere.”
“A purple disc?” Tommy asked as Wilbur turned to face the younger.
“Yeah, I think I took it to school or something and then it just disappeared. Probably stuffed under my bed or something with all my other things when things go missing.”
“I thought I told you to clean up the stuff hiding under your bed.” Phil jokingly scolded his son.
Tommy suddenly jumped to his feet, recognition painting his features with a grin plastered across his face brightly.
“I know where that is!” The blond announced excitedly. “Stay right here, I’ll be right back!”
Before the others even had a chance to respond, Tommy had bolted, running off in the direction of the Crafts house on a mission! He knew exactly where that purple fivbly was! He’d seen it many, many times when listening to Wilbur play music. He’d get the disc, bring it back and then he could share in a ‘sport’ just like Phil, Wilbur and Technoblade had!
This was going to be great!
・ 。゚☆: *. .* ・ 。゚☆ : ☽ .* ・ 。゚☆: *. .*
Tommy raced back to the Crafts house, quickly shifting beneath the garage door and sizing up again to run down the hall and into Wilbur’s bedroom.
The room was still a mess from the teen racing to get ready earlier that morning, with clothes thrown about and cupboards left half open with clothes hanging out in disarray, but Tommy paid them little mind as he bent down to peer beneath Wilbur’s bed.
A random selection of forgotten clothing, old test papers, shoes and random objects were crammed beneath the bed frame, items mounded together and the Shifter’s prize nowhere in sight.
”Geez Wilbur.” Tommy spoke aloud as he moved a random shoe away. “I forgot you were like this.”
Tommy tossed a few items to the side, but the pile seemed to be all tangled together and his patience was growing thin. He knew the disc was here somewhere. He’d passed it several times when out borrowing in the past. It would be much easier to just walk under the bed and look that way rather than item by item.
Tommy stilled holding a forgotten bouncy ball in his hand, as the idea dawned on him.
Surely a quick shift wouldn’t hurt?
With practiced ease, the Shifter shifted down before running under Wilbur’s bed and began to climb the mess of objects. Wilbur really needed to clean under here more often.
It felt slightly strange scaling the mound of clothes. Tommy hadn’t actually been under Wilbur’s bed in about a month. He hadn’t had a reason too since his shifting ability had come about. These days he took the same route in and out of the house to meet with the Crafts or shifted in the guestroom when they were out.
Once at the top of the forgotten clothing, the Shifter marched forward, eyes scanning the rest of the cramped space. He knew he’d seen the hunk of plastic around here somewhere. It took a lot of damn work to move it last time when it blocked his wall entrance by the foot of the Bean's bed, so much so the Borrower had shoved it deeper under the bed out of spite. As his gaze swept the back half of the mess, Tommy finally spied his prize.
The purple fizzbee.
The blond quickly slid down the side of mess mountain and began to tug hard on the freebee, but it barely moved. The weight of the toy was much harder to shift at this size, and was half buried beneath a crumpled up sweater.
At his Borrower size, getting the frislee out was going to be a lot harder than he had anticipated. No matter how hard he tugged on it, it just didn’t want to budge. Tommy blew a raspberry of frustration into the air, slipping down to the base of the toy and started pushing mounds of fabric out of the way.
Why was this suddenly so hard? He used to be able to move stuff like this easily all the time. Was he rusty from not borrowing so often? Or perhaps it was always this hard.
He just forgot how hard being a Borrower used to be.
Tommy didn’t spend much time dwelling on it, instead continuing to dig the filzee out until it was three quarters uncovered. Satisfied it would be enough, Tommy pulled himself back up to the top of the mound and grabbed the top of the disc. With all his might, the blond pulled on the frisbee, the plastic disc slowly starting to free itself as he tugged it forward.
“Just a little— more.” Tommy grunted with another harsh tug.
Without warning, the disc suddenly freed itself with a soft ‘whish’ as it was launched over Tommy’s head from the force he’d been pulling on it, sending the boy fumbling backwards with a yelp. Before Tommy had time to process, he was tumbling down the back side of the clothes mountain. He scrunched his eyes shut with a yelp, throwing his limbs out to try and regain his balance. The disc clattered after him, and they both suddenly crashed to the floor.
Almost immediately, there was a deafening SNAP.
The noise left a sharp, high-pitched ringing in the Shifter’s ears that drowned out everything for several seconds before slowly fading. Tommy tried blinking his eyes open, but found his vision blurry and completely filled with purple. It seemed when he fell, he had accidentally thrown the frisbee on top of himself, the snapping noise most likely whatever the disc had collided with.
The blonde groaned, as he tried to sit up, but his right arm weighed him down. He tugged his arm a few times, but it wouldn’t budge, his hoodie's baggy sleeve seemingly snagged beneath something after he fell.
Tommy blinked a few more times, rubbing at his face with his free hand, and twisted over to get a better look at the object keeping him pinned. The boy's stomach dropped when he saw it.
A mouse trap- his sleeve trapped flat beneath a thick metal bar and mere millimetres from shattering his arm to pieces.
Panic clawed up his throat when Tommy realised he couldn’t pull free. Phantom pain from adrenaline rushed up his arm, causing it to burn like fire, even though the metal wasn’t even touching his skin, as a million thoughts flooded his brain.
How did he miss that? How did he not see the trap when he first looked? What kind of a Borrower doesn’t check his surroundings properly!?
The purple disc had the very edge of its curved surface pinned beneath the mouse trap, the frisbee and his arm colliding with the trap presumably causing it to trigger when they fell, the plastic now bent up at an odd angle above the Borrowers head. Tommy couldn’t care less about the frisbee, breathing hard as he checked his arm with a trembling hand.
All he knew was he was lucky to still have the whole limb intact.

HOORAY! 4/4 SBI FINALLY AND NO ONE WAS MAD AT THE OTHER THIS TIME! YAY!!!! Although Tommy's in a bit of pickle now isn't he? I'm sure this cliff hanger ends well. It's not like something really bad is about to happen >:3 I would never do that to my favourite lil guy <3
As always, huge shout out and thank you to @dingbatnix for beta reading. Your theories on what's about to happen have been so much fun to read whilst editing and I am so excited to share with you the next current wip <3 You guys are so not ready for this.
Life update: College is AWESOME! I love my classes and lecturers but the workload is really intense. Since It's a short course I have anywhere between 2 and 7 assessments due every week so this chapter was almost going to be delayed, but I am a boss woman who is good at scheduling her time and we got inspired at the right moment <3 So I'm sorry for this cliff hanger, but I promise it will be worth the anticipation. I know this story started off with the intention of being short, but every chapter I've written I am truly proud off and I think adds to the overall plot, so to everyone who has stayed and read this far, in next month chapter: It's finally time Tommy's two worlds collide <3
Till then, thanks for reading and I'll catch you all next chapter <3✨✨

Of course you can be added to the tag list! All you have to do is comment on this post here and what I do before each chapter is I copy the user names and then post them in the comments.
This means if your user name changes but still want to be tagged, the comment updates so I'm tagging the current username plus helps me keep track of who's on it <3

Wilbur has been missing Tommy- A LOT! His concern for Tommy combined with the kids absence has had the teen concerned about the blonde's whereabouts' again too. Perhaps he'll learn a bit more about Tommy when they hang out this afternoon...

“Now this is a prized blade.” Tommy preened as he held up his pen knife to show Henry, his cow plush, leaned up on his bed. “Just a bit more work and she’ll be perfect.”
Tommy ran the pen knife along the sharpening stone, the blade becoming increasingly more sharp with every meticulous stroke of metal to stone. The Borrower had practice when it came to sharpening blades. One of the tasks he could perform at the colony for food was offering to sharpen the other Borrowers' razor blades when they became dull. It was a slow task, but Tommy made sure every single blade he restored was perfectly sharpened, and sliced through the air like butter.
Razor blades were few in the colony, most Borrowers preferring pins as their weapon of choice, but the odd razor blade knife certainly had its uses. But those paled in comparison to Tommy’s new knife.
He has absolutely no idea how it happened, but after his afternoon sparing with Technoblade, he’d gone home so tired and content that it wasn’t until the following morning that he noticed the pen knife sitting innocently at the foot of his bed, the same size if not slightly smaller than his pin sword. He’d had to pinch himself a couple of times to make sure it was real, but somehow the blade had shrunk with him!
He guessed there was probably some logic to it, considering whenever he changed size his clothes changed with him, but other objects? Well, if he wasn’t confused enough by the shifting ability already, this took the icing on the cake. Instead of trying to make sense of it, Tommy chose to enjoy the fact it fit in his house than hurt his brain trying to make sense of it.
Now he had the ultimate weapon against all pests!
That is if he ever finished sharpening it…
“If only the others could see me now Henry, they wouldn’t dare try messing with me and my blade!”
Tommy chattered on as he continued to sharpen the blade against the stone. He’d just about finished the first side but would have to start on the other side another time, as soon he’d be joining Wilbur for an afternoon hang out.
It had been a few days since he last visited and since Wilbur hadn’t seen him since the incident with Technoblade, the older teen had been getting insistent on catching up. He’d been monologuing to himself in his room, believing something must have happened at home and the ‘parent abuse’ had picked up again since Tommy hadn’t been messaging much. It had been so long that it had been mentioned, Tommy had almost forgotten his whole cover story and the Crafts’ theories on him.
Now that he was actually eating and having the occasional shower, he looked like any normal teenager, so it was easy to forget there had been any speculation at all. But then again, the Crafts hadn’t had a reason to worry as much about his well being when he’d been visiting so often, so the questions had subsided. With his choice to give Technoblade space, of course Wilbur and Phil would start to question his absence again.
Just the other night Tommy had heard Phil reassuring Wilbur that he’d received a text from him, that he was fine and there was nothing to worry about, but Wilbur wasn’t convinced that was the whole story and argued that, ‘you could lie about anything through a text,’ and had started begging Phil they go look for him again.
He’d sent Wilbur a text the next morning asking when he was free next and booked the following day’s afternoon.
It was sweet how much Wilbur cared about his safety, but if he had to take one more night of Wilbur moping to himself about how much he missed him in the middle of night when he was trying to sleep, Tommy was ready to stab his ankle just to shut him up.
The negatives of living in Wilbur’s walls, he supposed.
Satisfied with the blade's sharpness for now, Tommy set it down on his workbench, threw on his hoodie and packed himself up to leave. Something told him if he waited any longer, Wilbur was going to start whining again…
・ 。゚☆: *. .* ・ 。゚☆ : ☽ .* ・ 。゚☆: *. .*
“Uggggggh! Why does waiting take so loooooong!?” Wilbur moaned, half flopped over the side of the couch in the living room. “What’s taking him so long?”
Wilbur blew a loose curl back from his face and glanced at the clock on the wall for the hundredth time that day. It was quarter to four, but he’d been waiting for Tommy since he woke up, and the teen’s patience was running thin. Sure, Tommy said he’d visit in the afternoon, and he’d had to go to school, but the afternoon hit as soon as the clock hit twelve! That meant Tommy was, in fact four, hours late and school had held him back from getting home sooner.
His thoughts had been plaguing him since Technoblade and his massive spat, and he couldn’t get the image of when he first met Tommy out of his head. The frail, beat up kid, malnourished and deprived of attention, the result of lack of care and negligence plagued Wilbur’s mind, terrified that Tommy would revert to his previous state having not visited in so long.
He knew they were basically his care takers now, even if Phil hadn’t made it official yet and was itching to adopt the kid, but Technoblade’s recent actions had made Phil slow his efforts of adoption, claiming this had to be a mutual family agreement to bring Tommy in permanently, before even approaching the kid with the question- no matter how much he protested this when they talked privately in Phil’s study on the subject.
He understood the sentiment, he did deep down, but Wilbur didn’t care if his brother hated the kid, the brunet refused to let Tommy go back to living how he used to. If he had to adopt the kid himself, he would. He was going to have a little brother, his own twin be damned.
A knock at the door signalled the blond's arrival and Wilbur bolted to the door, throwing it open with urgency. He didn’t even have a chance to say hello before Tommy barreled through the open door and into his arms.
“WILBAH!” He shouted excitedly as he hugged the older tightly.
Wilbur slightly caught off guard, took a second to check the boy over, noting that no he wasn’t a frail stick and was still in the nice clothes they had gotten him. With his fears finally quelled, Wilbur returned the younger's embrace, revelling in the fact this was the first time he had openly jumped him for a hug with no hesitation.
“What up big dub? Heard you missed me?” Tommy asked cheerily.
“Hey Tommy!” Wilbur laughed as he ran a hand through Tommy’s blond curls, messing the kid’s hair up. “How’s my favourite gremlin?”
“Better than you apparently!” Tommy laughed, releasing his grip to step back, but not before Wilbur pulled him back into a tighter hug. “Oi let go you clingy bastard.”
“Nope. You put yourself here and I demand a longer hug.”
“Unless you want me to let go.” He tacked on the end, just in case Tommy was uncomfortable.
“No, no, it’s okay.” Tommy replied giggling as he leaned into the hug. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
After a solid minute, the two finally let go and Wilbur led them into the living room, taking a seat on the green couch facing the TV, whilst Tommy sat at the opposite end. Phil unfortunately had to work late this evening, but that just meant more Tommy time for him. Technoblade was in his room studying up for a test and would be leaving them alone, which Wilbur was quietly thrilled about. He was still quite annoyed at his twin as it stood.
“So Tommy, I have a few options for us this afternoon. I was thinking we could play a board game or I could play you some songs on my guitar, and then a bit later we could put a movie on and order some pizza. Dad said we could because he won’t be home until late, so we can get your favourite to share!” Wilbur excitedly blabbered as Tommy got situated.
He hadn’t heard Wilbur play much as of late- not with how anxious the brunet had been, fretting over his absence and it would be nice to hear some of his music again.
“I’d love to listen to you play some guitar if that’s okay.” Tommy asked.
“Sure! I’ve been working on this new song actually.” Wilbur beamed, as he leaned over the side of the couch where he’d left his guitar propped up against it. “Had a lot of stuff to channel into lyrics lately.”
“As long as it’s not about missing me again. Seriously man, you stay up way too late whining over me and my home life.”
Wilbur blinked, his head tilting like he’d misheard, the guitar in his hands stilled.
“How do you know about that?”
Sure, he knew he’d been missing Tommy, but he’d been careful to keep to himself when he was spiralling over it. No need to get Technoblade riled up more about his own twin crashing out over Tommy’s whereabouts again. He wanted them to get along after all.
“Oh uh.. Phil told me in- in his text.” Tommy covered quickly, wringing his hands together. “Thin walls in this house you know. Phil hears all.”
Wilbur arched a brow, carefully watching the blond, but seemed to buy into the lie.
“Besides,” Tommy continued. “-it’s a fair assumption. Everyone misses me. You, Phil, Women. I’m quite popular, you know.”
“Fair enough.” Wilbur chuckled, the suspicion seemingly dissipating as he repositioned his guitar in his lap to play, as Tommy mentally sighed. “I’ll keep that in mind next time you take too long to visit.”
“How’s life going by the way? We haven’t talked about it in a while?”
“It’s alright.” Tommy responded nonchalantly as he tried to get comfortable on the couch again.
“It’s been quiet recently, but I figured you guys needed the space after that whole- thing with Technoblade. I did actually come by a few days ago, but you weren’t home so I hung out with him before heading home to catch up on some house work.”
Wilbur's brain short circuited.
“Wait, you hung out with Technoblade? ALONE?!”
Tommy mentioned his hangout with Technoblade like it was nothing.
“Oh, Technoblade and I just read some sword magazines and sparred in the garden, it’s no big deal.” But Wilbur couldn’t hide the concern in his face, remembering how harsh Techno had been to Tommy the last time they were together.
Wilbur took a breath to steady himself.
“So, you just dropped by and Technoblade let you in with no questions asked?”
Tommy leaned into the couch, as he hummed thinking to himself. “Well, we were both surprised to see each other, but he was making lunch and offered to make me some while I waited for you and Phil to get back, but you guys took too long and we ended up chilling together.”
“And you were fine with that?” Wilbur asked carefully, leaning forward. “It’s just after the last time you were alone together, it didn’t end very well.”
His fingers fidgetted with the hem of his sweater, and Wilbur wouldn’t quite meet his eyes- like he was bracing for Tommy to brush him off.
Tommy just laughed, waving a hand like he was swatting away Wilbur’s worry.
“Wil, I’m fine. Seriously. It was a bit awkward at first but I think Technoblade was trying to make me feel comfortable and after a while we just chilled out, which for Technoblade is pretty good considering his track record with awkwardness and new people.”
Wilbur sighed in relief. Tommy wasn’t wrong. His brother had always been pretty bad with new people, but he’s just surprised by how quickly he’d seemed to turn the tides with his attitude towards Tommy- especially without him or Phil there to witness. After their stern talk in the office, Wilbur assumed it would be weeks before Techno would even try to make an effort with the boy, but that’s usually when they were around.
Maybe by giving the two space alone was what they needed to bond in the first place? No one telling Technoblade what to think of Tommy from their perspective. Just Tommy being himself and Technoblade giving him the chance to meet the blond like they’d asked.
Guess he had listened then.
“Well, I’m glad you had a good time together then.” Wilbur smiled softly. “I was worried something may have happened.”
Tommy shrugged. “All good big dubs! It was fun! He gave me a sword and everything!”
“Really?” Wilbur asked, arching a brow suspiciously. “Tech gave you an actual sword from his collection?”
Tommy shrunk a little tapping his finger tips together. “Okay it was a pen knife, but close enough! I took it home and started sharpening it up.”
“Wait Tommy, no. You can’t just go around sharpening blades! There are laws about this kind of stuff!”
“I’m above the law!” Tommy cackled mischievously. “Besides, it’s mine now and you’ll never find it!”
“Then I’ll just have to follow you home one day and break into your house to get it back.” Wilbur grinned somewhat triumphantly waiting for Tommy to bite back, but it seemed to earn him the opposite reaction.
“You- you wouldn’t actually do that would you?” Tommy asked tentatively, his voice small and quiet as if scared of the answer.
Wilbur realised his mistake, and his mind was flooded with all his worries from the last few days about Tommy’s home life all over again. He moved the guitar off his lap, and shuffled closer to the boy's end of the couch.
Tommy let out a shaky sigh. He wasn’t nearly as freaked out as he had been when the subject came up in the past, but the fear was still there. What was it about his home that made him so scared of others finding it?
“Of course not, Tommy.” Wilbur assured him softly, resting a hand on the boy's shoulder. “I’d only ever come to your house if you let me.”
He could stop now. He could swallow the pieces of the story Tommy had given him and leave at that, preserving the fragile trust they had built, but uncertainty was a slow poison. Just one time, Wilbur wanted to see where Tommy went when they weren’t together. Put his thoughts to rest knowing the blond was safe and not sleeping on a cold wooden floor, or hiding from those out to get him.
“Do you think one day we could hang out at your place?” Wilbur asked hopefully. “I know you said you live nearby but it would be nice to—”
“-- No.” Tommy cut Wilbur off abruptly, and the brunet’s shoulders sagged, dejected.
Tommy bit the inside of his cheek, feeling bad for having unintentionally hurt the teen’s feelings as he tried to think of an excuse, but even he knew Wilbur probably wouldn’t buy it as he coughed to clear his throat of the lump that had suddenly formed.
“Uh- I mean, no I don’t think that would be a good idea to be honest.” Tommy said as he fidgetted with his hands. “It’s um, well, my place- it’s quite cramped and I don’t think you’d like to see it if you knew where it was…”
“I’m sure it’s not that bad.” Wilbur tried pressing. “It’s not like we have to stay, I just want to be able to look out for you better, so we know where to find you if something ever happened.”
Tommy didn’t respond, the kid seeming to have a mental conflict with himself as Wilbur quietly hoped he’d open up.
‘Please Tommy. Let me help you.’
“I-I can’t Wilbur. I’m sorry it’s just- I live nearby, that’s all I can say, but every time I let someone close, I lose it all.” Tommy lifted his knees to his chest wrapping his arms around them. “I can’t lose it again.”
Wilbur quietly watched as Tommy dipped his head down, hiding his face in his knees. He’d over stepped again, but this answer at least explained a bit more to the hidden meaning as to why Tommy wouldn’t let them see his home.
“Tommy, I promise if you brought me to your home, I would never do anything to take it from you, or touch a single item without your permission. I will never push to see it without your permission and I’ll drop even asking if you can answer this one question honestly.”
Tommy lifted his head, his blue eyes slightly glossed over as he stared at Wilbur intensely, the older trying to be as gentle and open as possible.
“Are you truly safe at home?”
The ‘I need to know you’re not secretly being abused’ part went left unsaid, but Wilbur was sure Tommy knew the true intent of his question.
‘As long as you’re safe at home Tommy, I can live without ever seeing your home.’
The silence dragged on, but Wilbur waited patiently for an answer, the blond seemingly replaying the question over and over in his head before he dragged his arm across his face, to wipe the tears away as the younger met the brunet's gaze.
“Yes.” Tommy spoke quietly.
Wilbur physically sighed, all tension and worry draining from his shoulders from that simple answer. He was okay, Tommy was safe at home and he didn’t have to worry. That didn’t explain everything obviously. Maybe he’d never know why Tommy showed up bruised and in tattered clothing, or his strange habits, but at least at present he could be assured that he was okay.
“Thanks Tommy.” Wilbur breathed relieved, as he leaned back on the couch, letting the tension finally drain from his shoulders. “That’s great to hear, not gonna lie.”
“Can you play some music now?” Tommy asked tentatively, unsure if this really was the last time Wilbur was going to try and investigate his life for the day.
“Yeah, yeah. Sure.” Wilbur offered quickly as he sat back up and grabbed his guitar to tune it.
“Haven’t got a name for this song yet, but maybe once you hear it you can help with the title?”
A small, dry smile grazed Tommy’s lips as he made eye contact, his chest still heaving with the remnants of tension.
“Sure. Sounds good to me.”

Wilbur played the guitar for Tommy for the next hour or so, Tommy intently listening and offering his thoughts, and after a while, praise as Wilbur played, the two settling back into a happy environment, their tense conversation mostly forgotten.
Tommy forgot how much he enjoyed the teen’s playing. It felt like it had been far too long since the Bean had openly played guitar, and hearing all his songs was refreshing for the boy as they mucked around and even created a new song together. It made zero sense, mostly being rhymes from one weird object to the next, but that’s what made it so fun to do.
Wilbur was pleased to see Tommy looking so relaxed again. He felt bad about making him feel so uncomfortable before, but he was glad Tommy could relax and hang out calmly without something else getting him riled up again- excluding what literally just happened. He wished Tommy could just stay this way.
“Okay what’s a good rhyme for eating pancakes in the rain? I’m not sure I can think of a rhyme that flows super well into that one.” Wilbur laughed, as he continued to strum the three same notes continuously.
“Uh how about, walking upside down again.” Tommy responded thoughtfully, with a smile when it somehow rhymed.
“Nice! Walking upside down again, uhhhh something something train?”
“Running after a freight train.” A monotone voice chimed in from behind them, startling the two slightly as the music stopped and their attention snapped to the hallway.
“Technoblade,” Wilbur called to his twin happily. “Sorry, are we being too loud? I know you’re studying, we can try and be quieter.”
Technoblade waved him off, unphased by the ruckus. “Nah you’re all good. I was finishing up anyway before I realised you were playing Rhyme and Rhythm and thought I’d come join.”
“You know, I came up with this game Tommy.” Technoblade expressed to the blond on the couch, as he walked into the living room and took a seat in the green recliner opposite him. “Good challenge for lyric writing.”
“Yeah but he’s not as good at it as I am.” Wilbur explained as he started to strum his guitar again. “You know he tries to rhyme potato with potato every time we play this? So unoriginal.”
“Hey we can’t all be poets, Wilbur.” Technoblade rolled his eyes before he turned to Tommy. “Besides, Tommy trumps us both. Rhyming bitch to bitch to is a legendary lyric. You’re quite good at this, you know.”
“You think so Blade?” Tommy asked genuinely, perking up that his genius was being acknowledged. “Wilbur says I need to read a ‘Dic-show-naree’ because apparently I suck, but you know I think he’s just jealous he didn’t think of it first.”
“You know I think you’re right Tommy.” Technoblade mocked, as he shot his twin a knowing look. “Wilbur, do better.”
Wilbur squawked in defense, the music stopping abruptly whilst Tommy giggled and a smirk crawled its way up Technoblade's face as he continued to egg his brother on.
“What’s the matter, Wilbur? Cat got your tongue?” Technoblade teased as Wilbur set his guitar off to his side of the couch.
“Yeah Wil, do better!” Tommy teased cheekily.
“Oh come here you Gremlin.” Wilbur lunged forward, tackling Tommy into the couch cushion as he started to tickle him.
“We do all this hanging out, writing weird songs and you don’t back me up against my own twin? I thought I was your favourite.”
“No! Stop!” Tommy shrieked in a fitful of giggles as he tried to fight back but not really. “ Wilbur, AH! Stop! HAHA!”
“Admit Techno’s a cheater and I’ll stop.” Wilbur coaxed deviously.
“Ne-Never! Techno! Hahah! HELP ME!!!!”
“Oh no! I can’t reach you!” Technoblade feigned trying to reach the blur of arms on the couch. “You’ll have to suffer from tickling!!”
“Oh you think you’re safe?” Wilbur shouted before switching targets, sending his brother into a laughing whirlwind as he tickled his brother on the recliner.
“Wilbur, stop!!! Tommy! Help me!”
“Nope!” Tommy scoffed cheekily, as he tried to catch his breath now he was free of tickle tyranny. “You left me to suffer, now it’s your turn!”
Soon the three were all on the floor tickling each other like three octopi in a boxing match, laughing up a storm as the living room got trashed for the second time in two weeks.
They’d have to clean it all up before Phil got back, but for the first time the three kids of the family were finally getting along.

Anyway yall ever hear about the process of diaphonization? Its where you turn a (usually small) specimen's flesh and tissues clear, and then dye the bones (usually a blue-to-violet color). People use this process to better understand anatomy and whatnot. Side note, i found a tiny diaphonized dragon on esty. It will be here monday : D
Anyway... I got super inspired, and have thusly created a whole au around the concept. This drawing occurs later in the story, which i will hopefully have the bullet points done for soon : D
Lemme know if yall wanna see the process video of this one! Im very proud of it, it gave me hell <3
Taglist!

I've been free from working for a whole week and it is so wild to me, how little I've been on my phone or laptop this week, because I've been able to get out of the house, see friends, do jobs I've literally had no time or energy for and how GOOD I've been feeling!
Like college stuff doesn't start for another week, but like I'd go on the socials at work because I was BORED! Like I'd finish all my work and then any free time was just scrolling and geez I didn't think I was too bad, but like if this last week is any indication to my screen time it was BAD!!!! So if I suddenly get really slow at replying or don't see stuff right away, just know I'm lowering my screen time :3
Anyways, today is the first time in a week I've done any computer work and I know once college starts it's all going to be online, but like I'll have more purpose and stricter deadlines so I'm genuinely excited to start studying because I'll actually have a goal to work towards with assignment deadlines and no time to doom scroll at school. I'm so happy I made this decision now! No regrets honest!
Plus, now I can spend as much time or as little time writing as I want and it's so great having this fresh mind set! Anyways just a mini rant because I feel like it and back to writing!!!

You see a lot of art and stories with borrowers/fairies/etc riding or taming mice, rats, crows, hawks, etc - and don't get me wrong I love those - but I feel like there's not enough art or writing of borrowers interacting with bugs.
Just think of how many spiders you find in your home on a regular basis. Think of how many other bugs are crawling in your walls and void spaces. Think of how many bugs are in a square meter of your yard. I have to imagine that borrowers, especially if outside, would constantly be running into critters.
Consider the following:
Picking aphids off crops. It's probably like a human plucking grapes off a vine, except they can move and have legs. If you're very patient you might get a ladybug to eat one out of your hand
Going into your dug-out cellar and there's 3 hibernating woolly bear caterpillars just curled up in a corner somehow
Trying to get back into your house at night but the humans left a light on and there's one of those giant silk moths in your way and even though it's literally harmless you're too scared to shoo it because it's bigger than you
Keeping a wolf spider as a pet in your house. It darts across your floors at all hours, keeping your home pest free. But sometimes it just jumps on you out of nowhere
