do y’all remember usernames??? from back when every fuckin website didn’t need your email phone number home address social security number just to join/sign up for something?? when you could make website-specific accounts that weren’t linked to literally anything else??? they tried to boil us like a frog slowly switching to “username/email” and then just asking for your email. but I remember. Monitored bank accounts for those under 18. Requiring parental consent for medical procedures. Parental controls on personal devices. "We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u

the real question isn't "how is the surgeon the boy's parent when we know his father died in the car wreck" (answer: the surgeon was a woman #feminism). what we should really be asking is, "how is the surgeon?" how will this newly widowed single mother juggle her very demanding job, her son's grief (assuming he survives the surgery), and her own grief? after losing her husband so tragically, will she ever be able to open her heart to someone else and try again? how long will that take? is she fruity at all? can i have her number? the car accident wasn't my fault btw
