Why Do I write?
Why do I write? I used to say: “I only write to remember” and “I have to write for school”. But in three short years my relationship with writing changed. I still write the necessary: never-ending to-do lists; simple e-mails and texts; essential dates and appointments. As well as the afore mentioned to remember and for school also still ring true. But now I write mainly out of love. I write simply because I love it. I’ve discovered a place my mind can wander to, where I can spend hours journaling completely connected with pen and paper. I need to write to express how I feel and what I think, an obsession that blossomed with every page I wrote. When I don’t write for weeks I feel a roaring sensation that needs to be unleashed.
It took me a long time to realize I craved writing, as I always thought it was journaling itself. But journaling can take any medium, and writing chose me. I write simply for my sanity. I write as a form of expression, and to communicate whom, what and why. I write when I’m sad, happy, anxious, excited. I write when I have so many emotions I do not know what to do. I even write out of boredom, for something to do. Though I have to say reading through my old writing I realize one thing always stays true: I do still write to remember.
