“woah, you look like shit,” hyesoo stated, looking down at the person in front of her doorstep. she had never been one to sugarcoat her words, even now when someone is clearly not in the best state-- but frankly, neither was she, with her sleep interrupted by the commotion that had occurred earlier outside. in her mind, they were pretty much even. “here, come inside. i’ll get you cleaned up. won’t even ask, so you don’t have to tell if you don’t want to.”

“ah, no, i don’t think so--” hyesoo responded with a slight sigh, her fingers toying through her hair in an absent manner. “this year just doesn’t seem right for a comeback. i have a bunch of songs ready, but i don’t have it in me to actually put them out there. there’s just this feeling of doom impending-- not to sound dramatic or anything. maybe 2016 will be the right time. it’s been far too long, i know.”

“If you were given the chance to erase one memory from your mind, would you do it?” The question is unprovoked, completely unrelated to the previous topic of conversation from minutes before, or even the magazine in her hands that she was barely staring at. But this was Hyesoo, after all-- there was never any rhyme or reason behind her ways, and even when there was, there still wasn’t. “No funny consequences or fine print, just that-- as if it never happened. Would you do it?”

“I’m really such a boring person.” Hyesoo chuckled, tapping lightly at her chin as she mulled it over. A day alone was far too simple of an answer, one that would easily leave the both of them unsatisfied. “I’d drive out the city for a day, get some fresh air. Not Jeju, that’s too over-rated. Some place smaller, where some ahjumma will invite you in for dinner without knowing you, just because you look too skinny. Where no one even knows who I am– probably impossible, but a girl can dream, yeah? Just  fall off the grid for a bit. Take some pictures, lay in the grass. Not even care about what grass stains get on my clothes. Stargaze and actually see the stars without all that pollution, just like when I was little. That’s like, the perfect day to me.”

She’s never been one to meddle. Hyesoo tells herself this, over and over as she internally fights herself over whether she should speak up or not. In the end, her morals and conscience win the battle, and after letting out a soft sigh, she taps the unfamiliar woman on the shoulder to get her attention as she leans in closer.  “Don’t be too obvious, but this guy behind us has been staring you up like he’s ready to take you home for the past ten minutes now. I might not be able to fight him off, but I think me and you can figure something better out to get rid of him.”
