Not to be cringe and on the side of (some) teachers, but I feel like some of the bits that take the piss on classic writing advice you hear in highschool or low level college classes, is born from people who still write and enjoy writing, hearing in class advice from someone that has just read at minimum 20 pieces from a business or comp sci major thats forced to be there, and 3 pieces from someone who enjoys writing, or at the least wants to think about it and improve.

"Dialouge tags are bad, avoid as many as you can, let it be communicate by the strength of your dialouge" is actually life saving advice when your vice involves reading this as your job multiple times.

"Hello," She said.

He said "hello" back.

He could tell she missed him.

She said "where were you," and he said "nowhere you'd want to know."

She then said "but I do." and he said "you don't"

And than people who care enough about writing to keep on doing realize this was bad, or at least not all true advice, and go "heh, seems like ive outsmarted ole teach on this one."
