Introduction
Hi everyone! Welcome to my poetry blog. My name is Hüzüniya. It's just an alias, if you speak Turkish, Arabic, Farsi or Urdu you might be familiar with the word huzun, huzn or hozn. Hüzün is a Turkish word which relates to a deep, soulful kind of melancholy, sorrow, or sadness. It is not a sharp or angry pain, but a quiet, shared ache that feels almost poetic. While born from a sense of loss, hüzün is deeply life-affirming because it means you care deeply about what you have loved or lost.
Writers like Orhan Pamuk have turned the word hüzün into more of a sociological concept. It shifts sadness from a private, psychological diagnosis into a shared community identity. When a Westerner experiences melancholy, it is viewed as an individual condition to be fixed. In Turkish culture, particularly within Istanbul, hüzün is a collective atmosphere that people intentionally inhabit together.
After losing my father I started writing poetry again. Something I did as a young child but I stopped writing for some reason which I still do not know today. I remember standing in front of the class to read my poetry out loud, even though I was an extremely shy kid. As we grow up, the realness of life tends to kill your passion. I suspect that is what happened to me.
While losing my father is the worst thing that has ever happened and probably will happen to me, in this life. It did reignite as spark within me to start writing again.
I hope that with sharing my poetry I can inspire other people to write again or just to touch and comfort the readers.
While I will try to post as much of my own poetry, whenever I read something I like, I will reblog for sure. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoy my work.
