Part 2 of what angered me on Tumblr.
While Iâm not sure where the makers of the infograph got their data from, focus on the comments.
Just about every white person missed the point, and immediately went for the âreverse racismâ, âblacks are criminalsâ, and âIâm a victimâ arguments. Clearly the poster was trying to show that in SYG states, white people are more likely to be acquitted when murdering a person of color. And in some of the more recent cases, THE POC WAS MINDING THEIR BUSINESS OR EVEN PROVOKED. Thatâs the problem, itâs 2014 and you can still essentially get away with killing a black person, LEGALLY.

Read AS I PLEASE #2 by George Orwell: My response
We live in a world where whites would rather follow a pattern of institutionalized ignorance known as being âcolorblindâ than see and accept the fact that there is a problem with race relations. Race must be acknowledged always because it makes us who we are. Race defines your culture. And, being in a minority culture in a country whose majority discredits and demeans the minority culture as unimportant or less than is a struggle.
Living in a world where white people completely ignore the fact that they have privilege over minorities is inexplicably difficult. Minorities today are told to, âget over itâ and âmove onâ. There is no getting over it or moving on when you have no home, no legitimized history, no rights. Minorities in America, and in other countries where the majority is white, are not given the respect and rights that they deserve to this day.
Young black men and women are still shot in the streets like animals for not confining to the white manâs ideals. Cultures are still appropriated. Minorities get no respect, and when they ask for it they are shunned. Economic disparity is still a huge problem in the United States amongst whites and people of color. However, the majority does not want to see it because society does not want to see color as a problem because it is afraid of it.
Whites are afraid of the angry and oppressed minorities they have created by refusing to see or deal with color in a capitalist, oppressive, white society.

Flawless Queen âŞÂ Lupita Nyongâo
"I thrive on structure. I find my freedom in structure. It was very hard to adjust to an individualistic and very liberal system. I mean, my upbringing, I would iron my clothes every night. I would plan what I wore the night before, and then I would iron it. Thatâs just the way my mom raised us. Then I got to Hampshire, where clothing is sometimes optional and all this kind of thing. I was mortified."
