         ❛  so  is  bein’  a  mom  like  ---  weird?  ❜  he  hopes  that  doesn’t  come  off  as  rude  because  it’s  not  meant  as  anything  bad.  one  of  the  downfalls  of  being  raised  practically  isolated  is  that  he’s  not  sure  when  something  is  something  that  shouldn’t  be  said.  ❛  i  just  mean  it’s  gotta  be  weird  being  responsible  for  tiny  little  creatures  that  depend  on  you.  like  a  dog,  ❜  probably  shouldn’t  compare  kids  to  dogs  ---  he’s  never  even  owned  a  dog.  ❛  but  ----  you  know,  not  a  dog.  ❜

             there’s  something  off  about  the  way  she  smells,  but  it’s  unfamiliar  to  him.  she  doesn’t  smell  like  anything  he’s  met  before,  granted,  such  a  small  amount  of  time  as  a  vampire  hasn’t  given  him  the  biggest  chance  to  broaden  his  supernatural  encounters.  no  matter  what,  he  supposes  it’s  none  of  his  business.  still,  he  feels  like  he  should  strike  up  a  conversation  anyway.  curiosity  tends  to  get  the  best  of  him.  so  a  quick  sip  from  his  drink,  just  to  get  him  going,  ❛  so  you  like,  own  this  place?  ❜  a  beat,  ❛  sorry  --  i  just  overheard  and  that  seems  cool.  ❜

   “watch  this  !”  grinning  wildly,  she  runs  toward  the  edge  of  the  roof  before  launching  herself  into  the  air,  twisting  her  body  into  a  graceful  flip.  maybe  she’s  showing  off,  but  some  part  of  her  just  feels  the  need  to  impress  him  with  something  cool.  her  legs  only  tremble  slightly  when  she  lands,  arms  flung  out  wide  to  distract  from  the  fact  that  she  could  have  just  as  easily  landed  wrong.  “cool,  huh?  i’m  like  spiderman  or  something.”

         ❛  yeah,  sure,  okay.  ❜  he  says  with  a  grin  and  a  tone  of  disbelief.  he  may  be  bad  at  a  lot  of  things  (  like  really  bad  at  a  surprising  amount  of  things,  he  won’t  even  get  into  it  ),  but  he’s  confident  he  won  fair  and  square.  he  straightens  his  stance,  arms  crossing  over  his  chest,  ❛  accept  your  loss,  i’m  the  winner  this  time!  if  you  want  a  rematch,  though,  i’m  more  than  happy  to  comply,  you  just  have  to  admit  your  defeat  in  this  round.  ❜  what  a  cocky  little  shit.  

She enters and lets out a small gasp, what she sees is like a scene out of a horror movie. She walks over to him, taking his bloody hands and holding them tightly to comfort him, ❝ We’ll figure something out, okay? ❞ she tries to assure him, squeezing his cold hands with her warm ones,  ❝ I’m not gonna let you turn into a monster. ❞ she says softly, almost like a whisper. She didn’t know what she was going to do but she had to do something, she couldn’t leave him like this.

         no  matter  how  fearful  he  is,  it’s  comforting  to  have  her  there.  the  touch  reminds  him  that  he’s  still  here  and  he’s  not  alone  anymore.  granted,  he  may  be  here  differently  than  the  night  before,  but  he’s  (  sort  of  )  alive.  he  gives  a  small  nod.  he  wants  to  believe  her  and  part  of  him  certainly  does,  but  he’s  still  scared  that  she  might  be  wrong.  

           after  all,  this  feeling  he  has  isn’t  right.  how  can  he  remain  good  with  feelings  like  this?  ❛  everything  hurts,  ❜   his  voice  cracks  with  desperation.  ❛  and  there’s  this  ---  this  hunger.  it  doesn’t  just  feel  like  hunger,  though,  it  feels  as  if  my  stomach  is  being  torn  apart  from  the  inside.  it  feels  like  something  is  wanting  to  come  out  and  it  is  killing  me  because  it  ----  it  feels  like  i’m  struggling  to  hold  on.  ❜  it’s  not  something  he’s  eager  to  admit  and  if  it  were  anyone  else  he  called,  he’s  sure  he  wouldn’t  be  saying  it  at  all.  he  trusts  her,  though,  trusts  her  enough  to  think  she  won’t  look  at  him  like  he’s  something  disgusting  now.  

             ‘  you  know  what  i’ve  learned  ?  humans  can  be  just  as  bad  as  the  rest  of  ‘em.  ‘       it  was  a  strange  sense  of  duplicity,  that  she  should  finally  now  refrain  from  speaking  as  if  she  was  one  of  them  ;  it  was  too  late  to  deny.

She checks her phone, putting the address in her GPS once it gets to her, ❝ I’m not gonna let that happen.❞ she promises him. She’ll be damned if she lets him die. She speeds off once she gets on the highway, desperately trying to get to him as fast as she can before it was too late.

Krystal arrives at the motel an hour later as the sun was going down, following the blood trail from the parking lot, up the stairs, and to a door with a bloody hand print. This had to be it, Ace just had to be in there, he just had to be. She knocks on the door, ❝ Ace, sweetie, open up, it’s me Krystal. ❞ she just hopes she’s not too late.

      the  more  time  goes  by,  the  more  noticeable  the  pain  is.  especially  the  hunger  ---  he  knows  he’ll  have  to  eat  eventually,  but  he’ll  postpone  that  for  as  long  as  possible.  with  the  sun  going  down,  though,  it  does  get  rid  of  one  problem.  he’s  sitting  by  the  door  as  he  waits,  trying  to  avoid  getting  lost  in  the  downward  spiral  of  his  thoughts.  so  when  he  hears  a  car  pull  up  in  the  parking  lot,  he  perks  up.  the  newly  heightened  senses  are  going  to  take  a  while  to  get  used  to.  

      he  jumps  up  at  the  knock,  quickly  unlocking  the  door  and  opening  it  slightly.  even  with  the  sun  going  down,  he  doesn’t  want  to  risk  getting  burned.  ❛  yeah,  hi,  come  in.  ❜  he  moves  away  from  the  door,  his  stance  tense  and  his  hands  fidget  with  one  another.  ❛  thanks  for  coming,  really.  it  means  a  lot.  ❜  he  hasn’t  washed  off  the  blood  from  last  night  yet.  his  skin  and  clothes  still  stained  from  his  own  wounds,  but  other  than  that,  there’s  no  trace  of  his  prior  injuries.  ❛  i,  uh,  well  i’m  not  quite  sure  where  to  start,  but  i  ---  i  think  i’m  dead.  o-or  rather,  undead. ❜  the  word  makes  his  stomach  knot  and  he  has  to  take  a  seat  again.  saying  it  out  loud  felt  different  than  just  thinking  it.  ❛  i  don’t  wanna  be  a  monster,  you  know?  ❜

Krystal had just gotten back from a rather easy hunt when her phone rang, she smiles as she recognizes the number. It was her long time friend Ace who she hadn’t seen in ages. She was meaning to call him but things had been so busy that she barely had the time to, which she would soon regret. The woman happily picks up the phone but the moment he speaks and she hears how shaky his breath her stomach twists. Something was wrong. 

❝ I will be soon. Ace, honey, what happened? ❞ her tone was obviously very worried as she moves to her RV away from prying eyes, still on the phone with him.❝ Tell me where you are, I’ll be there. ❞ Krystal scrambles to put her keys in the engine and get the RV to start in her panic. ❝ And just stay on the phone with me, okay? I promise I’ll be there soon. ❞ 

      her  voice  already  sets  off  something  in  him,  where  he  has  to  hold  back  his  tears.  talking  about  this  makes  it  real.  ❛  i’m  ---  i’m  gonna  text  you  the  address,  a-alright?  ❜  he  takes  the  phone  from  his  ear,  taking  a  moment  to  send  the  address  (  with  some  extra  struggle  in  the  eye  department  anyway  ).  he  takes  a  deep  breath,  trying  to  find  some  grounding  for  himself  before  he  puts  the  phone  back  up.  

       ❛  something  bad  happened.  ❜  he  can’t  say  it.  not  yet,  it’s  looking  too  real.  he  can’t  admit  he  was  dumb  enough  to  have  a  crush  and  that  he  thinks  he  might  be  dead  now.  ❛  sorry  for  calling,  i  just  ----  i  didn’t  know  who  else  to  call.  ❜  a  beat,  his  vision  blurs  with  tears  threatening  to  escape.  ❛  everything  hurts  s-so  bad  and  i’m  scared  and  ----  and  i  really  don’t  wanna  die,  krys.  ❜

        something’s  wrong,  he  thinks  he  knows  what,  but  it’s  not  something  he’d  like  to  admit.  the  sudden  sensitivity  to  all  his  senses,  the  fact  the  small  bit  of  light  beaming  through  a  gap  from  the  curtains  seems  to  burn  his  skin,  the  soreness  of  his  teeth  ---  all  the  signs  of  something  he  wouldn’t  wanna  be.  he  shouldn’t  have  trusted  him,  he  should  have  known  that  dating  in  this  career  path  was  practically  impossible.  he  should  have  known  he  didn’t  really  like  him,  that  there  was  something  fishy  about  the  whole  situation.  that  it  would  end  with  him  terrified  and  alone  in  some  shitty  motel.  who  could  he  even  call?  his  parents?  no,  not  yet.  he  doesn’t  want  a  freak  out.  his  siblings?  no,  they  don’t  want  anything  to  do  with  this  world.  krystal?  -----  well  that’s  not  a  rotten  idea.  

          “Ace! What a cool name! Is that short for anything? I love it!”            Emma (thankfully) resists the urge to make a pun that might completely ruin this nice introduction she has going, and instead takes him by the hand and guides him to where the party is really kicking it – the living room, which has been transformed into the karaoke station.      “Can I get you anything? I think there are a few humans around who are more than happy to open a vein if you’re not into the synthetic stuff…– Oh! Do you wanna sing? We could totally duet or something if you’re shy! I’d love to sing with you!”
