Bre’ka - He used to be an armorer. He was very skilled and held great promise for the clan’s future. But he couldn’t—and still can’t—keep his mouth shut. He speaks his mind. He talks constantly and quite loudly. And he often insulted one hunter or another. It usually ended in a fight. These situations happened frequently. It undermined the discipline and morale of both the hunters and the Tek.

In the end, he was transferred to the Rear Hangar to work in Spaceship Maintenance. He doesn’t interact with the hunters much there. But Bre’ka doesn’t see it as a demotion. He’s been put in charge of spaceship maintenance. He’s happy there.

Sev’raak - He used to be an expert in electrical systems. After an accident, he was left partially paralyzed. He could no longer handle the delicate work involved in electrical wiring, so he ended up in Maintenance.

He has come to terms with his fate. He has learned to work efficiently with just one hand. And now he is a valuable member of the team. Above all, everyone appreciates his philosophical monologues. Fortunately, no one can understand him.

Urekh - The oldest member of the team. He used to work in the volcano control room. He lost his sight in an accident. To this day, he hasn’t come to terms with being demoted. He believes he could have continued doing his job even after going blind. He claims that the volcano speaks to him and that he understands its language. In any case, the clan didn’t want to take any chances, so he ended up in Spaceship Maintenance.

T’vra - You already know her. They demoted her after she fucked up. Now she’s at a point where she’s not happy even in Spaceship Maintenance, and she wouldn’t have been happy in her original role as a spaceship designer and builder either. But she doesn’t know what she really wants. Right now, she doesn’t have much of a choice. Her life has been reduced to just the Rear Hangar and the few corridors she’s allowed to enter.

At least when cleaning the boats, he finds some human junk left behind by the hunters. That keeps her occupied for a while.

They live in a volcanic highland region. And their home is located right inside an active volcano.

Society is divided into two castes: Hunters (Varuum) and Technicians (Tek). At first glance, they appear to be two distinct civilizations sharing a single fortress. But in reality, they operate within an interconnected system.

Varuum

They are the face of the clan. They are warriors, hunters, explorers, and space travelers. They embody the traditional Yautja ideals: honor, the hunt, prestige, and strength. Many spend most of their lives on the road. They return home only for the breeding season, to upgrade technology, repair ships, and hand over their spoils—in the form of food supplies—to the Tek.

Tek

They have a completely different way of life. Their purpose in life is to invent, create, and innovate. Among the Tek, there is no natural selection as there is among hunters (if you are weak, stupid, or otherwise inadequate, you will die on the hunt); therefore, their population includes individuals who are physically very weak. Among the Tek, it is the mind that is valued, not the body.

The Tek have taken control of the volcano, where they have built a massive fortress. They are able to regulate its magmatic activity and convert its power into the energy they need for other processes.

They are masters at working with metals, crafting weapons, building spaceships, developing various systems, keeping records, creating archives, and they love statistics.

And since “honest craftsmanship” is their guiding principle, none of their processes are automated. Without them, the entire operation would grind to a halt within a few days and be consumed by the volcano’s flames.

However, both castes need each other:

The Varuum set out in search of prey—for the hunt, honor, trophies, prestige, and food for the Tek.

The Tek build spaceships and weapons and fortify their home base—providing the hunters with everything they need so they can devote themselves fully to the hunt and not have to worry about the day-to-day.

Of course, tensions arise between the castes…

Varuum says, “Without us, the Tek would starve.”And the Tek reply, “Without us, you’d be hunting nothing but hot air on the volcanic plains.”

And both sides are right.

Damn, this is already a long read. But I need to add a few more details to make it make sense:

The clan’s genetics tend to swing to extremes. Stupid and strong versus brilliant and weak.

There are Teks here who deliberately manipulate Tek genetics to ensure that strong and intelligent individuals are born.

Among the Varuum Teks, no genetic experiments take place except for controlled breeding, which also occurs naturally.

The traditional family does not exist here. It is common for Yautja to have offspring with multiple partners. Mates are chosen based on genetic compatibility, the needs of the clan, and population stability. Emotional bonds do exist, but they never take precedence over the needs of the clan.

The young stay with their mothers only briefly. After that, they grow up in a group. From an early age, they are tested and monitored to determine which caste they will belong to.

And this system is ruled by a woman, a matriarch, Rha’kovet, the mistress of fire and metal. At her side stand two men: the Voice of Varuum, Tha’vek’ta, and the Voice of Tek Ish’taar’de. Both are her political partners, life partners, and the fathers of some of her children.

Other clans have mixed feelings about the Varuum Tek. They respect their technology, their fleet, and their fortress, which is considered impregnable. But at the same time, some consider them too reliant on technology and disconnected from the true hunt.

And that really is the end of the article. 😁 It’s hard to write concisely about a system as complex as Varuum Tek.

Naar Hish individuals are easily recognizable at first glance. They have more elongated faces, narrow crowns, and indistinct ridges. Their lower mandibles are notably long. Their dreadlocks are thin. Their skin ranges in color from shades of green and gray to nearly black. Darker stripes on the back are typical, as is a row of long bristles (or perhaps spines) along the spine. The average height is 2.5 meters. There are no significant differences between males and females.

These characteristics are not merely aesthetic—they reflect an adaptation to the marsh environment, where stealth, agility, and endurance are essential.

They are also known for their calm and focused demeanor. To others, they seem quite strange. They are not the type to waste words. Much of their communication is nonverbal. The unpredictable environment of the swamps has made them masters of observation. Hunters from the Naar Hish tribe can sit motionless for long periods of time, watching their surroundings. And when they do move, they do so quickly and silently.

Their typical hunting method involves approaching their prey unnoticed and then killing it with a single, precise strike. They call this "clean hunting," and consider it the most honorable form of hunting. The smarter the prey—requiring prolonged observation and the hunter’s ingenuity—the more valuable the trophy.

The elite hunters, masters of this hunting method, are called the Shadows. The Shadows also serve as guardians, protecting the clan’s Sacred Hunting Grounds from foreign hunters. Thus, the Shadows’ prey consists of foreign Yautja who have entered Naar Hish territory.

Otherwise, the Naar Hish live a fairly primitive existence. They do not use technology. In fact, they consider hunting with the aid of technology to be dishonorable. They do not even know how to work with metals. Their weapons and armor used to be made entirely from natural materials. But they are gradually acquiring metal weapons and armor. They obtain these mainly as spoils from fallen visitors to their territory.

Over time, the clan discovered that valuable loot could be found beyond the planet’s borders. And so it became tradition that any hunter wishing to venture into space must acquire his own spaceship. Stealing ships became yet another test of a hunter’s skills. This did not bode well for relations with neighboring clans. War loomed many times. Eventually, the technology of the neighboring clans advanced to such an extent that the hunters of the Naar Hish clan could no longer steal these ships. The clan therefore cherishes the few remaining functional spaceships. Even though they no longer steal, their reputation as thieves persists.

But recently, the situation has begun to change again. The clan is expanding once more. Naar Hish has begun cooperating with the neighboring Kat’har Medru clan. They’ve started trading. As a result, Naar Hish has gained easy access to high-quality blades, armor, masks with breathing filters, and other small conveniences. But ships are still scarce.

Rha’koveth stands among them.

Not as a mediator. As the axis.

From the beginning, she was shaped differently than most. Not just as a hunter, but as someone who must understand the whole. She learned to fight—because without that, the hunters would never have accepted her. She learned to understand technology—because without that, the Tek would never have respected her. But neither of those things defines her.

It is defined by responsibility.

To rule Varuum Tek does not mean to lead. It means to constantly strike a balance. Every decision has two sides. Every step strengthens one caste at the expense of another. And every mistake is magnified.

Sometimes she’s tired of her role. So far, she’s always managed to keep things under control.

But now the tension within the clan is higher than usual. She can sense it. Something is happening, and she must intervene before the balance is shattered…

Rha’koveth, another important character in my fan fiction.

Kwei'shra is the opposite of T'vra. She is a tall, strong ande faumous huntes. Her name is know even beyond the borders of her clan. She come from the Naar Hish clan. An ancient, reclusive clan inhabitink the drak swamps.

She belongs to a group of elite hunters whom the Naar Hish call the Shadow. She has perfected her hunting skills. She has benn on many hunting trips andbrought back valuable trophies. Perhaps too many...

She is at an age ehere she is considered the clan's elder hunter. She spend so much time hunting that she didn't even notice, how her sons reach manhood. She didn't notice how her clan and traditious were changing. Nor did she notice that her dreadlocks were turning gray. The world around her is changing, but she remains the same.

She give birth for five sons. She had them all with same partner, who died while hunting. But that was a long time ago. She hasn't let any man get close to her since then. It's not that she's grieving. Death ehile hunting is an honor. But she's risen so high in status that she no longer meets men who impress her.

Hunting no longer fulfills her. On the contrary she loves the moments when she can take off her armor. And then, in the relative safety of the marches, she gathers Shakora (a marsh plant) stalks, with she spins into thread. Then, in silence, alone with her troughts, she weaves them into cloth.

Her life has hit a rut. Like any good woman, she doesn't see the reasons for her dissatisfaction...yet.

Coming up with Kwei'shra wasn't easy. I wanted the Naar Hish to look different. I want to slightly alter the anatomy of their heads so that every yautja could tell at a glance that this one was from Naar Hish. I knew I wanted to give them long mandibles and elongated faces. But drawing it took a long time. I have a sketbook full of sketches of various Kwei'shra faces, various Naar Hish skulls. There were really a lot of them before I created a functional look that I was satisfied.

The next challenge was the armor. I'll admit, I hate it. I'm better at drawing natural objects that metal. And for Kwei'shra I wanted some simple, unisex armor. A hunter like her wouldn't wear a battle bra. And for that, I needed armor that doesn't quite suit her. But at the same time, it shouldn't be too flashy. The Naar Hish don't know how to work with metals. So hunters acquire metal armor and weapons trough theft. I’ll explain this custom in more detail sometime.
