There was a kid at my school for the first few years that always got in trouble. He couldn’t help himself but do stupid things; here are some that I directly witnessed. • Launched a chair out of the maths block 2nd storey window in the middle of class. • Threw thirteen textbooks (some old heavy ones) at classmates and teacher in less than a minute. • Broke a wood file and launched the newly formed spike straight at my leg. Luckily it missed. • Got… um… *placed* by some lads in my year into a dustbin/trashcan and couldn’t get out until a teacher found him and tipped him onto the floor, with all the rubbish stuck to him. • Was to be observed screeching Eye of the Tiger… constantly. • Got kicked out and these years later can be found selling drugs on street corners in the nearest large town.

Being Five Again

It's like being five again. When you're on the stairs and there's Yelling Its in the kitchen this time. They're fighting and swearing and You're twenty now but You can't leave home because you're too Poor A whole other story, not this from before. A victim to the verbal and you start Shaking Because you're angry too but they don't Listen So you try to intervene but they just won't Stop Screaming Your heart's in your throat and there's a Roaring In your ears that sounds like you might drop but they don't seem to care right now "Don't make this about you." Please, please, please just stop I'm too old to cry but too young to ignore it. It's like being five again. The feeling's the Same I'm in my sister's arms and they're full of Shudders She yells right back but no, it's not working As they scream over our heads. We're kids, we're adults, somewhere in between. "Get out of my face." Please, don't. I can't cope anymore. And I'm angry again, shaking with rage That they blame me for something I'm not Guilty Of. They square up to me with a threat The dogs, they hide next to sofas, under Chairs That would only go Crashing If we weren't there. It's like being five again. They still haven't stopped. Maybe in my bed, where I'm hiding with those sad little dogs. I'll wait until morning and under my cover I'll be Crying.
