He couldn't bring himself to throw it away, and had no idea what else to do with it. So he decided to treat the bear as a friend. He saved it a spot on the couch, and even took it with him to the bar.

Then Trish showed up. Sometimes, during movie nights, she'd hold the bear while they watched cheesy slasher flicks they'd rented. And when it came time for cleaning, they'd bicker over whose turn it was to wash the bear.

Dante had almost forgotten the bear even existed—until Trish decided to leave. She didn't take everything with her. It was as if she had never been there at all, like she was just a hallucination born from Dante's loneliness. She only packed the bare essentials.
