too much heart.

        Sam knows Castiel did the right thing. If they had a vamp in hand and he didn’t have information on the Alpha, the Winchesters and the Angel couldn’t let anyone know what they were up to. It could ruin their plans and set them back months of work. They’re just so close to finding the ingredients to a powerful weapon that any lead on the Alpha is a promising one.

    The hunter shakes his head.

“Nothing, Cas,” he blinks, lips resting against one another in a straight line. Their lack of tightness doesn’t denote any lack of frustration at the whole situation. Instead of dwell too deeply on it though, Sam moves closer to Castiel, taking in the look of his face and what parts of his form can be seen beneath his trenchcoat.

      “You were gone awhile,” says Sam, expression softening, however neutral his tone is. “I was almost ready to worry.” Worrying is something that comes naturally to Sam in almost every situation. He’s good at that. Has been good at that ever since he was nine and left behind by John and Dean while they went on a hunt. Sam’s stomach still feels the ache from the lessening of tautness in his muscles when someone returns safely from a hunt. Castiel is no different.

  “You should rest,” he says. “We need you sharp ‘til you’re 100% again. You uh…you wanna stay at the bunker tonight?” His eyes are soft. Dean is sleeping now and Sam doesn’t want to risk waking him abruptly and explaining the whole thing. So there’s really only one place Cas can find his respite, and the deepness in Sam’s eyes is offering it, openly. His room. He knows he’d want that kind of offer if he wasn’t up to par; even if Sam also knows he would struggle to take that same offer anyway, despite his gratefulness. He wonders if Cas is the same.

 sam’s concern is practically RADIATING towards castiel in waves. he can feel each and every one of them, too. this is what makes up for everything in his opinion-- the way sam & dean care about him. the small moments, where he can see it in their eyes; how much they care. it takes him back each & every time how forceful it is. 

 make no mistake. castiel KNOWS how important finding this alpha is. he’s always been one to understand the mission & follow it to a point ( well, most of the time ), but this one is proving to be... difficult. castiel looks down at himself, chin touching his chest, as he takes in the bloodied trenchcoat & his two hands. with a drawn out exhale, he tilts his head back up, looking sam straight in the eyes. everything is softer this time.  ‘ i didn’t mean for you to worry. you have my apologies. ’

 the hunter has a strong argument; castiel DOES need to be sharp, but is rest really the way to do it ? he can decode the unspoken offer. sam is offering up his BED. his bed. & while he’s touched, of course, he isn’t sure that he can take that.

               “You know, you’re much cuter when you’re shutting up.”

     blue eyes squint ever so slightly. well-- it seems he’s done ENOUGh talking about the 12th century & how he almost prefers it.  for a short moment, his pink lips close, before parting once more. 

      The words I’m not here to hurt you don’t feel very reassuring in this situation. ‘ I live here. ‘ She states, and technically, she does. She just lives in it in a different time, one yet to come.  ‘ With my husband, who IS waiting and WILL notice me not show up. ‘ This is said with confidence even though it barely has any truth behind it. Yes, she did live here with Howard, but it’s not like he can get to get right now. 

      And truth be told, this guy seems insane to her, was she expected to be entirely truthful to a mad man? Certainly not. Sure, she was hell bent on people being honest, but some situations deserved a free pass. She keeps her back pressed to the wall, wondering how she could get out of this without having to risk running out. 

    lying is something that the angel can detect easily. but why is the woman even bothering ? it’s annoying. ‘ i’m here to bring you home, ’ he says after a moment, confused etched on his expression. he’s here to ask more questions, actually, but id she can lie then SO CAN HE. he knows people are still walking up and down the sidewalks, which means he can’t just grab her. she’ll scream, & someone, somewhere, will get the wrong idea. he needs to calm his voice, his worries, or else she will only be more stubborn. perhaps he should have introduced himself better. 

       She’s scared, who wouldn’t be? But she wasn’t one to easily give in, not unless someone she cared for was in danger. And seeing as her husband wasn’t here, she was pretty much impossible to break. She had no one to lose, and thus, she could afford to stand her grown. Let’s build a time machine, Howard had said What could go wrong? He’d said.   

    Just as she’d told him it would, something had gone horribly wrong. She goes with playing the dumb card. ‘ I don’t know what you’re talking about. ‘ She lies, not running. She didn’t want to risk it and then finding he had a weapon. ‘ I mean, I’m from Manhattan if that’s what you mean? I just moved around a bit. Just let me go, please. My husband is waiting for me. I think you have the wrong person. ‘ None of that is technically a lie, and thus, hopefully he believes her.

     he’s an ANGEL OF THE LORD. how would he have the wrong person ? taking a deep breath in ( he’s frustrated ), castiel pinches the bridge of his nose & then returns all his attention to the woman. ‘ you don’t understand, ’ he starts, eyes narrowing more, ‘ this is bigger than the both of us & i require your COOPERATION. please. ’

         it’s almost as if she’s insulting his intelligence, which offends him. he knows the other in front of him is smart too, but that’s no excuse. besides, if she was as smart as cas thought she was, she wouldn’t be lying right now. it’s no use. castiel backs away from the woman slowly, still not letting her out of his sight. there’s no strange aura coming from her, which is odd.  maybe he’s dealing with an unknown force.

        ‘  so, what’re y’gonna do about claire? ’

        ‘ anything i have to; she’s my responsibility now. i took everything from her. ’ 

  a deep sigh escapes pink, parted lips, coming out in a soft exhale. the angel’s eyes flutter closed in thought as his mind reels about all the possibilities. he could just leave claire alone & never speak to her again. he could send her back to that youth home where she would be miserable. or, he could stay and help her get her life on track. the answer was pretty obvious. 

   he wonders for a moment what the teenager would have been like if he had left JIMMY where he had belonged. what would the world be like though ? would it still turn slowly on it’s axis ? would it even be here ? very slowly, his eyes slide back open & they flicker towards the hunter. he looks confused for just a few moments-- maybe even scared. but the way his jaw sets & the way DETERMINATION burns like a forest fire in his eyes covers it up. he’ll do whats right in the end. he just needs help getting there. it isn’t like he has any experience with raising children. especially when said child keeps running away from any out stretched hand.
