Phanniemay15 Day 7: Alternate Universe

Mine and Editor-C’s Human/Ghost War AU. Yep. Three more page, but I’ll put them up after Phanniemay.

Anyways, yeah. Sorry. Don’t expect more awesome shit like this from me. My quality isn’t exactly the most consistent thing around…

Okay, I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible.

So basically what happens is that ghosts are getting more and more common, they’re leaving the ghost zone and messing with humans, etc. etc. It escalates slowly from there. Maddie & Jack Fenton and the other ghost hunters they know/meet up with at ghost hunter conventions start an anti-ghost campaign. Meanwhile, more people outside of Amity Park are getting clued in on the existence of ghosts, aided mainly by social media. And obviously, these ghosts are a threat, right? I mean, the ghosts everyone knows about are not like those ghosts from movies, where they only float a bit, posses people, and generally just haunt one place. No, these ghosts can shoot ectoblasts, duplicate themselves, have specialized powers, and all other kinds of unknown shit that terrifies the crap out of people.

I mean, yeah, it’s cool, but they’re rogue. Nobody can really control them, and that worries people. They know practically nothing about ghosts, who are apparently a very real, very powerful, very lawless threat. Then, lo and behold, they find the Fentons’  anti-ghost campaign. They have a way to explain the unexplained, have access to facts, and are being told that ghosts are nothing but menaces that need to be eradicated.

Unfortunately, the ghosts who cross over into the human world and cause trouble are the only ones anybody ever hears about. And once word of ghosts like Pariah Dark gets out, there’s no stopping the rising hysteria.

Ghost activity escalates, the public gets whipped into a panic, and the Fentons start training the citizens of Amity Park on self-defense against ghosts.

Danny has, of course, been trying to keep things calm, keep people from buying into the anti-ghost propaganda. But he’s just one guy. He’s just one ghost with a spotty track record. Then things start snow-balling.

Following popular opinion, a group of expert ghost hunters (people in the field before it was taken seriously) start building a giant ghost portal to go into the ghost zone and root out the ghosts at the source. Stopping them once they enter the human world isn’t doing anything; ghosts just return to the Ghost Zone, regroup, and reemerge.

And then the first battle of the war happens. In all honesty, it’s nothing more than a skirmish, but it’s so shocking that people start calling it a massacre.

In a town not too far from Amity Park, a group of ghost hunters were doing a routine patrol to nab the ghosts in the area. Too bad they disturbed a large group of highly aggressive, upper mid-level ghosts. The two groups fought each other, ghost hunters and ghosts doing equal damage to the buildings around them. There were civilian casualties. In the end, the ghost hunters won, but not after a fair amount of their own were wiped out. None of the ghosts survived the encounter, either. Because, contrary to popular belief, it is possible for ghosts to “die” a second time. Since ghosts are made up of energy and will, if you drain all its energy, it’ll be too weak to continue existing without receiving energy from the Ghost Zone. And because this was in the human world, those ghosts are gone.

The media latches onto this incident, as does the anti-ghost propaganda. By now, Amity Park is pretty much 100% anti-ghost, and as the authoritative voice on the ghost presence in the human world, well, let’s just say they convince a whole lot of other people to side with them.

Ghosts are now a major threat. It’s time for the humans to take action.

So, back to the giant portal they’re building. More people start donating money to the cause against ghosts, and the ghost hunters now have enough people and resources for a new plan, a bigger plan. They now know how to destroy a ghost, and are in the process of experimenting on some ghosts they have in captivity to develop specialized weapons. Now, the plan is this: destroy all ghosts. It’s going to be a ghost genocide.

But the ghosts also know what’s happening. They’re preparing for the imminent invasion of their home turf. If they’re going down, they might as well take as many ghost hunters with them as possible. They know that the ghost hunters have also underestimated their power, and their intense attachments to their lairs.

Meanwhile, the halfas. Danny and Vlad try to remain as neutral as possible; they don’t want to be dragged into this. Although Danny is more anti-ghost than Vlad, having grown up in the Fenton household, he does not condone a genocide of beings he knows are sentient, with the same emotional capabilities as humans. Vlad, on the other hand, can’t afford to take sides for more political reasons. As Plasmius, he has a reputation in the Ghost Zone that he is unwilling to put on the line. As Masters, he has the human press to worry about. Anything he says either way can–and likely will–be blown out of proportion. It doesn’t help that people have found out his connection to the Fentons (via Jack) and his statements on ghosts now hold a lot more weight than he would like–at least, as long as what he says about ghosts is negative. He chooses to remain silent in this matter–at least, publicly.

And then Danny’s parents see Danny transform back into Fenton. He was caught up in a battle with ghost hunters, his parents among them. He lost too much energy to maintain his ghost form, so his body reverted back to human. His parents, on the other hand, think that The Ghost Boy is either disguising himself to look like their son, or is possessing him. They freak out, and Danny is now forced to go into hiding.

The ghosts take that as an opportunity to get another powerful ghost on their side. Danny ends up being forced into the ghost’s side of the conflict, and now he’s going to have to fight people he knew.

Things just keep escalating from there. Amity Park now has a full-town ghost shield, and the Fenton’s portal is kept shut at all times. The town is training for offense against ghosts; they are getting ready to invade the Ghost Zone.

Shit’s going down.

Vlad’s identity gets revealed, and he too is forced to join the ghosts. Neither Vlad nor Danny are happy about their loss of neutrality, but things were out of their hands.

I’ll add more info later, these are just the basics. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I forgot to mention a couple things. First of all, Clockwork and the Observants. And the direct descendants of the Ancients. What are they doing? Answer: absolutely fucking nothing. The Observants see that a “good” outcome is likely to happen, so they just make sure they (and the other descendants of the Ancients) are safe when the humans invade, and otherwise make sure Clockwork stays out of this mess. They have a policy of not intervening until totally necessary. As seen in TUE, they didn’t do squat about Dan for 10 whole years. So, for this war, they’re just sitting it out unless a bad future happens. Then they’ll get their lazy butts in gear and do a thing.

However, Clockwork still wants to find a way to help, so he releases Dark Dan (who thinks he’s escaped), but, using Ancient runes, puts constraints on Dan to make sure he has to help Danny in this war, and to prevent him from completely mcfreakin’ losing it.

Dani also ends up helping the ghosts. But that’s because Danny’s there.

Also, this war goes on for years, so Danny doesn’t actually get to see Sam or Tucker for the duration of the time. He and Vlad are holed up in the Ghost Zone with all the other ghosts smart enough to stay out of the way of humans. I mean, sometimes they get dragged into skirmishes, and sometimes Sam and Tucker are there (they tried to help Danny, but they live in Amity Park–the anti-ghost HQ, and are forced into helping the humans would have the ghosts wiped out) but Danny never sees them. The closest thing Danny has to seeing them is hearing about how they are, if they were hurt in the skirmish, etc.

Second thing: Dash. On my song comic’s page 2, the line “But revenge is always sweet/ And chaos is the prize” basically Danny loses his shit. Before everyone finds out, and after things start escalating, his parents come closer to discovering his secret every day. Anti-ghost sentiment is on the rise. He’s stressed out more than usual. And, more than that, his ghost energy is kind of (emotionally) unstable, if you get what I’m trying to say here. So, when Dash and his buddies corner Danny in an alley to beat him up, he just loses it and hospitalizes them. He only feels guilty later.
