I have a Headcanon that Engie and Dark have in common that they are covered in scars.
Tw: Scars, burns, frostbite mentioned
Dark acquired scars from the events that had transpired at the manor, along with being into enemy battles in the past before finding the other egos. He often hid his scars very well, always wearing long sleeve if he wasn’t wearing his suit, mostly a black turtle neck sweater even in the summer because he never runs hot. Only a select few egos know of his scars, his daughter Yan, his husband Wilford since they share a room and it’s hard to hide scars with loved ones, and Dr. Iplier who is his primary doctor who has to exam him frequently. He kept his scars secret for years, seeing them as weak and didn’t want the others to think less of him, knowing that none of them would really understand and knowing that they couldn’t relate to him with that sort of thing. That was until Engineer Mark showed up.
After living at the ego Inc for a while, Dark started to notice something about Engie. He never wore short sleeve around the others, always wearing his tan jumpsuit or the white turtle neck he had under it, even if he was sweating bulllets in the summer heat. He never went with the other egos on activities that involved wearing less clothing like swimming, saying he was either busy with helping the Googles or working on his own projects. Dark didn’t question it at first, it wasn’t his business what the new ego does or doesn’t do in his spare time, but the more he got to know him and slightly grow fond of him (Don’t let Wil know that), he couldn’t help feel a tad concerned for him, especially when he looks like he’s about to pass out from the heat.
One night after finishing late night paperwork, Dark heads for the public shower rooms to freshen up before bed only to round the corner to see Engie standing in front of the bathroom mirror with his jumpsuit unzipped from his neck down, the sleeves being tied around his waist, and his turtleneck hung up next to him, revealing his chest and back and what Dark saw left him stunned. His back was riddled with scars of all kinds, some small like bullet holes, and others like old burn marks that healed jagged and uneven, he had discoloration on the skin on his chest and back from what looked like frostbite from extreme cold temperatures. Dark stared at the other in silence, taking in the scars until Engie noticed him standing there in the mirror, quickly turning to him in surprise.
Engie stared at the dark ego, frozen in fear as the other looked from his scars to his eyes, his face unreadable at first which didn’t help his current mood. He began to stammer out incoherent explanations stumbling back as he reached for his turtleneck, but a dropped it on the ground by accident, too afraid to bend down and grab it as he quickly pulled his jump suit up using it to cover his upper body, trying in vain to hide the scars from Dark but he knew it was too late. He continued rambling, fumbling with the zipper of his jumpsuit, not noticing that Dark had moved until he was right in front of him, placing his arms on his shoulders, causing him to go silent, looking up at him in surprise. He was worried that the other would be disgusted at his scars, but he wasn’t expecting the other to ask if he was alright, telling him that everything was okay and that he didn’t have to worry about his scars around him. He didn’t realize he was crying when tears started leaking down his face before a sob broke out. This was the first time someone had seen him without his suit and was so scared he’d be met with judgment, but he was relieved that it wasn’t the case as the other pulled him into a hug, letting him cry it out on his shoulder until he calmed down.
Once he was calm and had freshened up, they both were setting in Dark’s office room so that they could have some privacy to talk. They both sat in silence for a while before Dark gently asked what happened, stating that he didn’t have to tell him anything if he wasn’t ready but that he was there if he needed to talk. Hesitantly, Engie explained that he got the scars from what happened at the events of ISWM. It was a side effect of being trapped in the paradox, every time he died in one universe, he’d come back with a new scar. Getting sucked out of the broken window of the Invincible 2, leaving large cuts from the shattered glass on his arms and shoulders. Getting shot by the asteroid defense system, left his body riddled with bullet holes. Frostbite scars from being trapped in cryo when there was a leak. Every single way that he died in the time loop, left behind a permanent scar on his body, reminding him of his failures. The worse part is he remembers every timeline and can pinpoint where every scar came from living it over and over again, like a perpetual nightmare he had been stuck in for eons. He explained that he was afraid of letting the others know about his scars, not wanting them to associate them with his failures. Dark looked at the other in sadness when he went silent, watching as the other subconsciously pulled the caller of his jumpsuit over his neck that had burn scars on them. After a beat of silence, Dark gently pushed his hand away from his caller before resting his own hand on his shoulder getting his attention. He reassured him that the others wouldn’t judge him for his scars. They knew of the events of ISWM and didn’t think less of him for his role he played in it so they certainly weren’t going to judge his scars. Engie was reluctant to believe that, telling him that even if they didn’t they would probably still be uncomfortable with seeing so much scars on one person, still thinking he was the only one who had so many. Upon hearing this, Dark made a hard decision right then and there as he began to unbutton his suit and dress shirt. Engie took notice to this staring at him in confusion about to ask what he was doing when Dark pulled off his dress shirt, exposing his arms and chest causing the other to fall silent. He stared at him in shock, seeing that he himself was covered in scars, almost mirroring his own. Dark then explained that he wasn’t the only one carrying scars, telling him that he too felt ashamed of his own, thinking that they made him look weak and that he had his fears of letting the others know but he assured him that this group was very understanding and would never judge him for something like this. He then told him that, it wasn’t safe to wear long sleeves in this kind of heat, that he might pass out from heat exhaustion or worse. Engie knew that he was right and that the others would find out eventually, but he was scared on how to approach them. Dark then reassured him that whenever he is ready to open up to the others, he’d be there for him every step of the way. Engie could only tear up, resting his head on Dark as the other hugged him close.
The next day, Engie worked up the courage to let the others know, having Dark call a meeting in the conference room where he reluctantly revealed his scars to the others. During their initial shock, he explained how he got them just like he did with Dark and that he hopped that they wouldn’t be much of an issue for them to see. He was surprised when all the egos crowded him one by one in a group hug, all of them reassuring him in their own way that they didn’t care and were just worried for his well being. He stared at the others in silence before beginning to cry tears of joy hugging the others close before looking over to Dark who smiled at him, mouthing thank you to him. Dark could only smile giving him a small nod in response.
After that, he began to wear less long sleeves. When he got hot he actually tied his jumpsuit sleeves around his waist, wearing an undershirt instead of a turtleneck when he worked. He wore casual clothing when hanging out with the others, mostly cloak merch. Dark was happy that Engie felt more comfortable with them now, not having to hide a piece of himself from them. However when the others planned a day of going to the water park, he noticed that Engie was about to back out, wearing long sleeves again out of nervousness. It was one thing for family to know of this scars but exposing himself in public for strangers to see and gawk at him scared him. Dark usually skipped events like these for the same thing, but seeing Engie deciding to miss out on the fun made him make another big decision as he walked out of his room only wearing a pare of black swim trunks and shirtless, with a black towel hooked under his arm, exposing his scars to the others. The others stared in stunned silence for a while before beginning to cheer, crowding Dark all of them excited that he was actually leaving the ego Inc to come with them for the day. He then walked up to Engie holding out a pair was swim trunks, silently saying that he wasn’t going to be alone out there, that he always had him out there. Engie smiled looking greatful as he took the swimming trunks and changed all of them going out for the day. For once, Dark didn’t feel ashamed for the world to see him so exposed, now he had someone who understands, and vice versa for Engie.
Murdoc was one of the last egos from ISWM that the others found on their radar, being the third behind Stan Wheeler and Engie. However, he refused to join the others at first and had proven to be dangerous when he captured the host and was able to slip from their grasp. Dark cut his losses with the ego, thinking that he might be too dangerous to join them at the ego inc and it wasn’t the first time an ego never joined their ranks and it was for the better.
However that all changed when Eric was running an errand for Yan and ended up being held by gun point by a couple of robbers. He tried to give him all that he had but he hand nothing of value which angered the robbers deciding to drag him into an ally way to rough him up as revenge. After punching him a couple of times they slam him into the wall, watching as he fell to the ground before pulling him by his hair forcing him to look up as they aimed a gun at him, threatening to shoot him since he saw their faces and didn’t want him to rat them out. Eric would have been afraid if he wasn’t too focused on a figure behind the crooks, before the figure moved at lightening speed, using a knife to kill off the attackers one by one, letting them fall to ground in front of Eric.
Eric watched in horror before the figure turned to him causing him to cower, thinking he was next. However, the figure only knelt down wiping his bloody gloved hand with a handkerchief before reaching out, asking if he was alright. The ego only froze, getting a better look at the figure finding that it was an ego and not just any ego, it was Murdoc, the one they had been after. He hesitated, afraid to take his hand when the other reassured that he was safe, he didn’t kill the innocent. Slowly, Eric took his hand and let him help him up watching as the murderous ego began to look over the bodies checking their persons’ for items. Hesitantly, Eric asked if he was Murdoc which caused the other to pause, questioning him on how he knew his name. He quickly explained that he’s from Ego Inc and that the others were searching for him a while back, that he ran into the host. This sparked Murdoc’s interest, having been thinking a lot about the blind ego for a while after their encounter and wanting to know more about him. So he questioned if Eric lived with the host by any chance which he answered saying all the egos lived under the same roof, and that if Murdoc was interested, there was room for him too. It would take Dark some convincing, but Eric was sure that he’d let him stay if he were on his best behavior. Murdoc wanted to refuse, knowing how he was going to be treated if he stayed there and all the rules that would be enforced on him. But he liked this kid in front of him, it seemed like it was hard to say no to the young ego. He also couldn’t get the host out of his head, and had been itching to see him again, so reluctantly he agreed, following Eric home asking his questions about the other egos, but mostly the host.
When Eric brought Murdoc with him, the others were split on weather he was aloud to stay or not. Dark out right refused at first, thinking he was a danger to the others after his stunt with the host, but Eric argued that he didn’t harm a hair on his head, in fact he practically saved him from being killed. Some sided with Eric, agreeing that any ego willing to protect Eric was a good ego in their book. Dark was still refusing though seemed like he was reconsidering. It wasn’t until the host spoke up on Murdoc’s behalf, saying that although he could sense murderous intent in the ego, he could sense something in the ego that he had before and it was stronger now and maybe with their help they could help him and that he’d offer to keep an eye on him if he ever did anything to harm the others, taking responsibility for him. After that Dark relented, letting the ego stay but if he caused any harm to them, he was gone no exceptions.
At first Murdoc kept to himself, the others seemed very weary of him, and he always seemed to get death glares from their leader (Dark) so he didn’t feel very welcomed around the others. He would just stay in his room and try to ignore his murderous instincts, not wanting to get kicked out right away. He wasn’t aloud to leave the grounds, they didn’t think it was a good idea to let him roam free to continue his murders which angered his slightly. Murdoc knew this would happen, that he would be caged in with no way to itch that horrible scratch he had. It’s not like he enjoyed being the way that he was, he really couldn’t help his murderous intent. It was just how he was for reasons he didn’t want the others know, not yet anyway. So he just kept to himself trying to not go insane, however it was short lived when Eric started to come around him, asking if he wanted to hang out with him and wanting to show him around. Reluctantly, Murdoc agreed letting the ego show him around. Slowly, Murdoc began to hang out with the ego more and more. The others were cautious when he walked in with Eric but over time they began to slightly warm up to him, finding that he wasn’t too bad. However he never hung out for long, finding that he was more reclusive and the others were rambunctious, chaotic and loud.
The host had a hard time talking to the new ego, he was very distant and stayed in his room most of the time. Any time he was actually out, he was mostly hanging around Eric since he wasn’t too scared of him. He was also very hard to read, finding that he had put up a wall that was proven difficult to break through, even through his narrations. Even if he got a chance to talk to him, he was either nice one minute but when actually getting to know him, he’d become cagey and snap at him before disappearing again. The host was getting a lot of mixed signals from the ego.
The host was about to give up on him when the ego surprised him. Host has a problem with keeping his clothes clean due to his affliction. Every time he used his powers his eye sockets would bleed and get on him, mostly his trench coat. Due to being blind, he has a hard time cleaning it off. He was even desperate enough to use his powers to make it disappear only for more blood to drip on it in its place. Murdoc had caught the host using his powers on the coat, watching as the other threw the coat in frustration before storming off, leaving him alone with the coat. Later when the host was reading one of his braille books that King had gifted him, He was surprised when Murdoc walked up with his now clean coat handing it to him. He told him that due to his… profession he was pretty good at cleaning blood out of clothing and that if the host needed any help with that sort of thing, then to come to him. The host felt a bit touched at the sentiment, thanking him before taking the coat from him, offering him to join him at reading, having a regular version of the book he was reading on one of his shelves. He was surprised yet pleased that Murdoc took up on his offer, picking up the same book as they read in silence.
The Host x Murdoc (Murderiplier), based on this post. This is how I think they would meet and I might write a fic on it soon
TW: Mentions of Blood
When the egos get word that there was a new ego needed finding, Dark tasked himself along with Wilford, Bim, and The Host to go find them, mostly using Host who was able to sense his location through his narrations, though he had to be careful with over using his powers if the new ego was a threat and they needed him to stop them.
Somehow, during the search, the host got split up from the others and was accosted and apprehended by the ego, and taken to his hideout where he was tied in a chair by rope. Although the Host isn't able to see he could use his narrations to tell that it was the ego they were looking for, who looked just like Mark with round sunglasses wearing a purple turtleneck and a black coat along with a chain necklace.
The ego was Murdoc or Murderiplier from ISWM, and he planned on killing the host, thinking he was a hired assailant after him, about to unravel his bandages to get a better look at him. But as Murdoc loosened the bandages, the Host was able to stop him by using his narrations by taking away his weapons and loosening his restrains, freeing him from the chair he was tied to. While Murdoc was too stunned to act, the host made the ropes wrap around the other ego and forcing him into the same chair, but the bandages around his face were ripped off in the process, exposing his empty eye sockets to the other who was still clutching the wrappings. Instead of looking at the host with disgust or fear, Murdoc only looked at him in awe, a small smile forming on his face as he remarked how the Host looked like a work of art, watching as the blood from his eye sockets ran down his face, staining his trench coat. Of course the host was taken aback by the statement, trying to ignore as the other began to ask a lot of questions about his affliction, about his powers, everything that the host didn’t want to answer while waiting for the others.
Host gave the others a call, telling them that he found the ego they were looking for and giving them his location so that they could pick them both up, having to listen to the other continue to ask questions, and suggesting that they could be partners in crime and how they would have so much fun together, how host’s powers could make the hunt so much more thrilling. The more the host listened to the other talk he couldn’t deny how much the other reminded him of his younger self, back when he was known as the author. When he himself was too murderous, too obsessed with his stories he didn’t care who got hurt or killed in the process, as long as it made a thrilling story, it was fine by him. But he refused the other’s advances, gently suggesting that he gives up his murderous lifestyle and come with him to the ego manor, where he and the others could possibly help him. However, the other didn’t seem too thrilled at the idea because he some how got out of the restraints and now had a knife to the Host’s throat, commenting that it was a shame the other didn’t want to be partners with him and that he declined his offer, telling him he was too far into it to stop now.
The host tried to reason with him, telling him that if he hurt him now he’d just use his narrations to restrain him again but the other called his bluff, noticing that he looked rather pale from the blood loss and had been leaning on the table to keep himself up, he had used to much of his powers to find the ego and having to use them to tie him up. If he used his narrations like that again he could pass out from the blood loss. The host felt like he was done for but to his surprise Murdoc pulled away but still had his knife aimed at him as he backed away toward the exit. The host questioned why he didn’t strike, he had his chance but decided to spare him. That’s when he told the other that he doesn’t attack those who don’t deserve it. Not anymore anyway and he could tell the host was a good one. He then told him his offer did sound intriguing, but it sounded like a cage and he refused to be locked down with rules. So he smiled at the other throwing him his bandages telling him that he hopped to run into him again and that his offer still stands before he slipped quietly away before the others got there. When the other egos made it they found the host standing alone staring into the spot were there other had disappeared too. They checked if he was alright while the others ran after Murdoc but the host knew that they wouldn’t find him. He continued to stare ahead, clutching his bandages close, he could sense so much corruptions in the murderous ego but he could also sense something else in him and he he’s secretly hoping to run into him again so he could figure out what that was.
