band au . . . part three :: sleepover
pairing :: alysa liu x fem! reader
introduction ,, prologue ,, part one ,, part two
devonβs house always felt like it belonged to someone else.
it was untouched like rooms existed just to prove they could. family photos lined the hallway, but none of them were recent. same smiles were frozen in time like no one had thought to update them.
devon never talked about it.
his parents were always goneβwork trips, late nights, things that sounded important enough not to question. heβd mention it sometimes, casually, like it was normal.
and maybe it was for him, but you notice the way how fast the house fills up the second all of you walk in.
because quiet doesnβt suit him. heβs too loud for that. so instead, he fills it with music, arguments, and you guys.
as much as he complains about hosting every time, he still lets you all in every time.
whether he wanted to admit it or not, the noise, the chaos, and the band was the closest thing heβs got to something that stays.
but for now, heβll still complain.
βjust so weβre clear,β devon says, kicking the door shut behind all of you. βthis was not my first choice.β
you step inside, dropping your bag by the couch. βyou say that every time.β
βbecause every time iβm right,β he shoots back. βi couldβve thrown a party. like a real party. with cool people.β
quinn glances around the empty house. βand yetβ¦ here we are.β
βyeah,β cam adds, holding up a bag of chips. βwith snacks.β
devon scoffs. βyou guys are the snacks.β
βthat didnβt come out how you thought it did,β alysa says, making you stifle a laugh.
βdev, youβre so ungrateful,β you finally say.
βiβm not ungrateful,β devon argues. βiβm just saying, itβs my house, my rules, and i choose to hang out with you dorks instead of becoming a legend tonight.β
βyou were never becoming a legend,β quinn says flatly.
alysa snorts from the couch, tossing a blanket over her shoulders like a cape. βface it, dev. this is your peak.β
he holds up his hands. βmy peak hasnβt even started, aly.β
you shake your head, smiling despite yourself, and start arranging pillows on the floor.
eventually, the living room is covered in blankets and pillows, the tv playing superbad.
alysa drops down next to you, like always. βthis seat taken?β she asks, grin wide.
you roll your eyes. βyes, actually.β
alysa squints. βby who?β
you look around the room. cam was already sitting cross legged on the other side couch, devon sat on the floor with his head resting against the couch, and quinn was in the kitchen, searching for an energy drink in devonβs fridge.
βquinn,β you say, holding your chin up a little higher.
alysa narrows her eyes. βhey, q?β alysa yells, still staring at you.
quinn groans from the kitchen, closing the fridge with a thud. βwhat do you want?β
βare you sitting next to drama queen?β she asks, finally taking her gaze off you.
before you can say anything, quinn is already walking into the living room again, holding someone random can. βtake it,β quinn shrugs, already sitting on the arm rest of the couch.
alysaβs gaze finds yours again, smiling widely.
you huff, crossing your arms a little.
βrelax, i donβt bite,β alysa says, scooting closer and dropping her head closer to your ear. βunless you want me to,β she whispers.
you just sit up more, leaning forward with your elbows resting on your legs, hands on your chin. βpervert,β you whisper.
from the tv, fogell says his iconic βmclovinβ line.
devon groans immediately. βthis movie is stupid.β
βitβs not stupid,β alysa replies. βitβs a classic.β
you glance at the screen, and then back again, a little more interested than you meant to be. βmichael cera is the only thing keeping me watching.β
alysa tilts her head. βthatβs your type?β
you huff. βthatβs not what i meant.β
βi know,β she says, lips twitching. βjust taking notes.β
devon snorts. βyeah, aly, take notes. maybe start acting awkward and apologizing for everything.β
βi can do awkward,β alysa says immediately.
βwell, you already do annoying,β quinn adds.
cam laughs quietly, eyes still on the screen. βheβs funny, though.β
βof course youβd think so, cam,β devon snorts.
cam immediately sits up straighter. βthe hell does that mean?β
βoh, you know what it means,β devon whispers.
as devon and cam go back and forth, arguing, alysa leans closer. her shoulder presses lightly against yours. βyou like funny?β she murmurs.
you donβt look at her. βi like people who donβt talk during movies.β
βwow,β she whispers. βthatβs crazy. couldnβt be me.β
devon throws popcorn at both of you. βif you two flirt any louder, iβm kicking you out.β
βweβre not flirting,β you say.
alysa hums. βeasy for you to say.β
βy/n,β cam mumbles from somewhere under a pile of blankets. βweβre starving.β
you donβt even open your eyes. βand what do you want me to do about that?β
βuh, make us something?β devon says in obvious tone.
being the so-called βleaderβ of the band as the vocalist meant you somehow always got stuck with the domestic duties, like you were their mom.
βi need food,β devon insists. βi need substance, i need-β
βyou need to shut up,β quinn mutters from the other side of the room.
cam sits up abruptly. βcome on.β
βno,β you say immediately.
βyes,β he counters, already standing. βfield trip to the kitchen.β
devon groans but pushes himself up anyway. quinn sighs, dragging a blanket with them. alysa doesnβt say anything, she looks at you, waiting.
you stare at all of them. βnone of you know how to cook.β
βthatβs why we have you,β devon says with a smile.
you exhale slowly. βi hate all of you.β
βlove you too, drama queen.β
the kitchen light is way too bright for this time of night. it flickers on, exposing all of you in your half asleep, messy stateβblankets over shoulders, hair a disaster.
βokay,β you say, tying your hair back. βiβll make something.β
devon gasps. βyouβre a hero.β
you grab bread, cheese, and butter to make grilled cheese. it was something you usually made during rehearsals since it was something everyone liked, and devon literally had nothing else in the kitchen.
βgrilled cheese?β deven clutches his chest. βmarry me.β
quinn snorts, glancing at alysa. βyouβre late.β
βyeah, i called it first,β alysa nods.
you turn around, sending her a glance. βdid i agree to that?β
alysa smiles, shaking her head innocently. βnot yet.β
you turn your attention back to the stove. βkeep talking and you all wonβt be eating.β
cam sighs. βsorry, mom.β
alysa leans in, voice dropping. βdonβt worry,β she murmurs. βsheβll be making us food all the time once weβre married.β
you donβt even look at her. βthat sounds a little sexist.β
alysa pauses, immediately backtracking. βoh. no, no, then iβll cook.β
devon bursts out laughing. βoh, absolutely not. do not let aly anywhere near a kitchen again.β
βthat was one time,β alysa defends.
quinn raises an eyebrow. βyou blew up your microwave.β
alysaβs eyes widened. βi didnβt blow it up-β
βyou put a fork in it,β cam adds.
alysa throws her hands up. βi forgot it was on the plate!β
you stifle a laugh as start heating the pan.
behind you, cabinets open, drawers slide, and whispering is heard.
you slowly turn around. βwhy are you touching things?β
cam freezes, holding a pack of ham. βi was just-β
devon holds up a bag of chips. βwhat if we-β
quinn leans against the counter. βiβm not doing anything.β
you turn to look at them. βyouβre thinking about it.β
alysa, meanwhile, has somehow ended up right behind you. βi think you should let me help,β she says.
you donβt face her. βabsolutely not.β
βi could be useful,β alysa says.
alysa frowns a little. βthatβs harsh.β
βyouβre the one who almost blew up her microwave,β you say, trying not to smile.
alysa huffs, leaning against the counter.
you butter the bread, place it in the pan, listening to the soft sizzle.
for a second, itβs calm. until alysaβs hand reaches past you, grabbing a slice of cheese.
you donβt even hesitate. βalysa.β
βwhat?β she asks, already taking a bite.
you turn your head slightly.
she right there, closer than you expected, smiling like an idiot.
you signal to the cheese in her hand.
alysa pretends to think. βtaste testing.β
βyouβre stealing,β you correct.
she shrugs. βsame thing.β
you roll your eyes, turning back to the stove.
βokay but hear me out,β devon says from behind you, holding up a sandwich stacked with cheese, chips, and something that might be pickles. βinnovation.β
βthatβs disgusting,β quinn says.
βitβs art,β devon grins.
cam carefully assembles his like itβs a science project. βiβm just saying,β he mutters, βif you balance the ingredients-β
βyouβre overthinking grilled cheese,β devon interrupts.
camβs eyes widen. βiβm not.β
devon hums. βyou are.β
you flip your sandwich, perfectly golden.
alysa leans against the counter beside you now, watching you instead of the stove. βyouβreβ¦ so good at this,β she says, just to speak to you.
you shrug. βitβs grilled cheese.β
she tilts her head. βstill.β
you slide it onto a plate, cutting it cleanly in half. before you can even set it down, alysa takes one.
you blink. βdid you just-β
βyep.β she takes a bite like itβs hers.
βmake your own,β you say.
she smiles. βi like yours better.β
you squint. βyou didnβt even try yours?β
alysa shakes her head. βi donβt need to.β
devon appears beside you. βwhereβs mine?β
you stare at him. βyou were supposed to make it.β
βi tried,β he says. βit fell apart.β
you glance at his sandwich thatβs barely holding together. you sigh before grabbing another piece of bread.
βwow,β quinn says. βlook at that, sheβs doing it anyway.β
βshe loves us,β devon teases.
you shake your head. βone out of three.β
alysa holds a hand to her heart. βaww, is the one me?β
you narrow your eyes. βnope, itβs cam,β you signal to cam, whoβs putting pickles on his sandwich.
βlove you, drama queen,β he says, not even looking up.
alysa crosses her arms. βso you do like awkward guys?β
you shake your head, laughing. βi dont like guys. period.β
βsoβ¦β alysa drags out the word. βjust awkward?β
βi can do awkward pretty well, you know?β alysa says. βi actually-β
you let out a loud sigh. βshut up, liu.β
βokay,β is all alysa says.
devonβs snorts from beside her. βwhipped.β
alysa grabs a cheese, slapping it onto devonβs cheek.
devon turns his head slowly. βoh, you bitc-β
βget out of my kitchen,β you finally snap, turning around to face them.
βactually, this is my kitchen,β devon corrects, cheese still on his face.
you send him a stern glare.
he sighs in defeat. βokay,β he walks out the kitchen beside alysa, slapping her shoulder before running off to the living room like a child.
everyone falls asleep eventually. devonβs snoring was immediate. cam is buried in a blanket, comic still in his hand like he lost a fight with sleep. quinn is completely still, which either means theyβre asleep, or very much not.
and youβre awake, staring at the ceiling. you close your eyes, then open them again. you let out a quiet sigh, shifting a little. your shoulder presses back into something warm and solid.
you freeze, taking a breath. you didnβt realize how close alysa was. or maybe you did, just not that close.
you start to move forward, slowly and carefully, trying not to wake her.
a hand settles lightly at your waist, causing you to go still again.
βdonβt moveβ¦β she mumbles. her voice is rough with sleep, barely there.
you glance over your shoulder. you canβt fully see her face in the dark, but sheβs definitely not asleep, not fully at least. βi wasnβt,β you whisper.
her grip shifts. βiβm too tired for this, drama queen,β she mutters.
you blink. βi didnβt do anything.β
βyou did,β she says, words slurring together a little. βyou moved.β
you almost laugh. βyouβre the one holding me here.β
βmhm,β she mumbles. βproblem?β
she just hums like that settles it.
you try to shift again, just a tiny bit, but her hand presses a fraction closer to your waist.
βhey,β she murmurs. βyou canβt pull away now that youβre so close.β
your breath catches. βiβm literally trying to sleep.β
βthen sleep,β she mumbles.
you stare at the wall. βyouβre making that difficult.β
another quiet hum comes from her. βsounds like a you problem.β
you huff softly, but you donβt move. her hand doesnβt either. it rests there like she forgot to take it away, or didnβt want to.
βalysaβ¦β you whisper. βare you even awake?β you asks. βor sleep talking?β
she huffs quietly. βdonβt know.β
her hand shifts slightly. βgo to sleep,β she mumbles.
βyouβre holding me,β you whisper.
you exhale quietly, finally closing your eyes.
