you and manon had been best friends since primary school. you had been together for all of your major life events and milestones, from your first kiss to your first boyfriend to your first heart break. when manon made it into dream academy? you were over the moon for her! what friend would you be if you weren't?
but as the days apart began to stretch and you missed your friend more and more, a seed began to bloom in your stomach. you couldn't tell what the feeling was, but it certainly wasn't something positive. the dark feeling twisted and grew as the days went by, aching whenever you thought of her.
luckily, today manon was coming back. and the feeling was the smallest it had been in months. it was the first time you were seeing manon since she made it into katseye, the hours of practice and the strict routines making it hard for her to visit home often, especially at first.
you were with her family currently, setting up the house with various decorations and bright banners. balloons littered the ground and hallways, joyous chatter ringing out through the household. today was the first time in a while you were actually looking forward to.
you brought a bag of garbage outside, black plastic clutched in your hands, when a car driving towards the bannerman residence caught your eyes. you followed it with your gaze as you threw the scraps into the trash bin. the car eventually pulled up against the curb, manon stepping out of the vehicle with a big smile.
"manon!" you squeal, running over to her and wrapping your arms tightly around your waist.
"y/n! it's been too long," she calls, returning your embrace with enthusiasm.
"come on in, they threw a big party for you," you smile, pulling away and dragging her inside by her hands.
giggles chorused through the air as you guys enjoyed each others' presence. everyone was glad to see manon home, not just you, but you couldn't help but feel like there was a spark between you two, a shared moment whenever you two made eye contact.
later, when the party was over, you two sat on the front steps of the house, watching as stars began to light up the sky.
"I've missed you," you whisper into the night sky, flesh of your cheek catching between your two rows of teeth.
"you have no idea. I love the kats girls, don't get me wrong, but, there's nothing that can compare to you," manon laughed softly, turning to admire your features. jealousy twisted in your stomach at the mention of the other girls, though you didn't exactly know why.
"maybe you should move me out to la so we can spend more time together," you joke, looking over at the ghanian girl.
"if I could I would," she whispered, gaze drifting down towards your lips, longing behind her deep brown eyes.
"I should get home now, call me tomorrow. we can have a day out. like we used to do," you offer with a small smile, grabbing your purse off of the lower step.
"I'm paying this time," manon called with a smile, a slight break in her heart at your sudden departure.
"I love you." she whispered, voice audible only to the moon and the stars, not to the one girl she truly wanted to hear it.
