Workbook Week 1; Hello World.

Strongpoints: Discipline, creativity, helpfulness, caring. School and work based I’m very disciplined. This showed for example how in my 5 years of high school I’ve never went to an exam unprepared and have never not studied for a single exam. On school I also scored higher marks than most people when it came to making stuff. Often my ideas were creative with scored me high points. In my free time I also enjoyed making my own little projects. Besides this I’ve been always quite helpful and caring to most people. I’ve helped people study for exams before in my free time or helped people with a lot of other personal problems.
Weak points: Patience, planning. I’ve never been good with patience. It doesn’t matter what it is, I simply do not enjoy waiting.  Planning been also one of my weak points as this also shows when it comes to exams. I’ve often stayed up an entire night before the exam to study everything because I didn’t start in time.
I’ve chosen for HBO-IT because I always enjoyed making websites and did this in my free time. I’ve always been interested in programming as well but never did anything with it. Now I’m glad I finally did. Besides that, I’m interested in becoming a front-end web developer where I can show my creativity with something that I’ve been enjoying learning till now; making websites.
I expect Saxion IT to teach me about working abroad and helping me to become a good programmer. When thinking about the study time I expect to have a lot of help during the classes but also to do a lot at home, around 30-40 hours a week. Based on what I’ve experienced by now I feel like the teachers will give me enough support to get through this study. At the end of the course I hope to be a respected and good programmer and to have the job I want.
The subjects that I feel will interest me the most are software design, android programming and web applications. Those subjects sound very interesting and helpful towards the job direction I want in the future. These subjects will help me the most with making websites and making my own apps doesn’t sound bad at all either.
The subjects I might not like will be international work and IT & Law. I can tell based on experience with my previous study that I’m not that interested when it comes to economics, and law is something I have never been interested in.
My main study targets for now will be: - HTML - CSS - JAVA those three should help me the most with becoming a front-end website developer.

Three competencies required by a profession fitting HBO-IT are: - Responsibility; Knowledge of what is expected of you, the skills you need to perform well (knowing how to program) and a trustworthy attitude. - Problem solving; A code has to be precise, when an error occurs you have to figure how to fix it, you also need good skills in what you’re trying to fix and insight of the situation of the problem. - Creativity; It’s important you’re creative if you want to program different things, if it looks the same like the rest then it won’t be special (for example websites). This makes it important that you’re creative and openminded.

Competencies that will be important in the next few months of my education: - Teamworking; It will be important to work together with your fellow student. Learn from each other and teach each other. A good attitude will be that you’re helpful towards each other. - Disciplined; It will be important that you work hard and achieve what you need to achieve. Planning will be important too, since IT isn’t something you can learn in one evening.
During the course you will have to know the basics of programming, the infrastructure of IT and how it can be to work abroad. For programming its not only important that you know the theory, but also that you can use the theory in different situations to program something yourself. It is also important to know the theory of the books from the other subjects given in this course. Here again it is important that you are motivated, disciplined and learn to plan.
For me it will be the most important that I learn to plan. I’ve never been very good at it and it’s time to change this. This can be achieved by making a proper agreeable schedule for myself regarding on studying.
