I forgot what I was gonna say

when i was a kid, i would have to tiptoe around his anger issues often, sometimes running quietly past his work table until he got his own place completely separate from our family, locked away for days. every so often he would start screaming in the car and trying to hit me or my brother for talking too loud while my mom attempted to calm him down as he swerved on the road. and now he, smiling, helps me with car insurance.

Like I don’t think they’d admit it but they have a TON in common. Both child prodigies, very cocky but overconfident in themselves and FIERCELY loyal (Subspace to his faction, Coil to his friends, at least that’s how I interpret him), and both of them have quite a temper! Not to mention the similarity that they are both absolutely hindered/disabled/weakened in some way and are abusing their crystals as a way to be temporarily stronger while also DESTROYING their actual bodies….

The real difference here is their upbringing. They were both born without parents, but Subspace was taken in and had his violent urges and ego fostered and catered to, basically manipulated into being a puppet for life, very spoiled and self-centered but never given what he genuinely NEEDS. He cannot stand up for himself and has not been shown genuine emotional connection.

Coil was thrown away from Splintered Skies and raised by Wolf, who seems very harsh but at least taught him not to be a pushover, and he’s made friends who genuinely really care about him.

Neither of them had it PERFECT, in fact,  they’re both deeply insecure deeply as a RESULT of their upbringing (yet another similarity).

So these are about Coil. And I don’t think that’s surprising, he is HIS OWN CHARACTER. OKAY. IM NOT SAYING THEYRE THE SAME. Him being “ragebait incarnate” and not being actively malicious automatically sets him away from Subspace.

But they really do have such similar traits that I think if Coil had been raised in Blackrock, OR EVEN JUST SPLINTERED SKIES, HE WOULDVE TURNED OUT LIKE SUBSPACE. IM SO SURE.

Also. Excuse me. Half of his face is covered in ice? You say? When he goes into fusion mode? Yeah okay that’s cool that doesn’t remind me of anyone at all
