Dracula (1979)

Mr. Cruel is the nickname for an unidentified, masked Australian serial child r*pist who attacked three girls in the northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is also the prime suspect in the 1991 abduction and murder of a fourth girl, Karmein Chan. His nickname came from a headline in the Melbourne newspaper The Sun.

The 1920 Wall Street bombing occurred on September 16, 1920, leaving 38 dead and hundreds wounded. The horse-drawn wagon carried 50 pounds of dynamite and 500 pounds of heavy cast-iron sash weights, which acted as shrapnel. To this day, the attack remains one of America's most infamous and unsolved mysteries. Despite a massive investigation by the Bureau of Investigation (now the FBI) and the New York Police Department, no one was ever brought to trial for the crime.

Prom Night (1980)

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist on March 18, 1990, remains the largest unrecovered art theft in history, valued at over $500 million. Two thieves in police uniforms tricked guards to enter, tied them up, and looted 13 masterpieces in just 81 minutes. To this day, none of the artwork has been returned, and the empty frames remain on the walls in memoriam.

On February 16, 1988, a mass shooting occurred at the headquarters of ESL Incorporated in Sunnyvale, California, when 39-year-old Richard Farley shot and killed seven people and wounded four others. A former employee of the company, he stalked his co-worker Laura Black for four years beginning in 1984. Farley is still on death row.

The Swarm (1978)

In 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper hijacked an airplane and demanded a $200,000 ransom along with four parachutes. When the story broke, a reporter misheard the name as D.B. Cooper, creating the longstanding media epithet. After receiving the parachutes and money, Cooper asked to be flown to Mexico City.
