❝I saw it begin. I did not think I would live to see it die.❞ (The Last Battle - C.S. Lewis)
Digory Kirke first entered Narnia with his friend Polly through the depraved Uncle Andrew’s magic rings. Together they watched Aslan create Narnia, but also watched it be destroyed after bringing evil into it.
Digory is a sensitive boy, but crafty and resourceful all the same. When being tempted by Jadis, he proved his loyalty to Aslan by not giving into his desire. Aslan then honored him and gave him the piece of a fruit from the tree that would later be known as the Tree of Protection. Bringing the fruit back with him to Earth, Digory gave it to his ill and bedridden mother, Mabel, to eat and consequentially healing her of her illness. When the fruit was eaten to its core, Digory took it and planted it in his yard. The tree grew just as well as its sister tree in Narnia, and seemed to have a link to the other tree - it sometimes moved when there was no wind…at least not in London. The tree was eventually blown down and its wood was used to build a wonderful Wardrobe.
He grew to be an educated theologian. Even though he had no children of his own, he became something of a grandfather figure to the four Pevensie’s when they took refuge in his house.

BIOGRAPHY
❝Mabel. Digory. My most dear people.❞
John Kirke is the father of Digory Kirke and husband to Mabel Kirke née Ketterley. Due to the successful family business that has been around for many generations, John is wealthy since infancy. Although he is part of the upper class, John is more fascinated with the pursuit of knowledge. He also has an obsession with traveling and despite the fact that he can work from home, he prefers to physically be wherever the family business brings him. Wanderlust coupled with a hunger for knowledge takes John to every corner of the world. Except home. John cannot stay in one place for too long as he prefers exploring. Many are then led to believe that he only married Mabel so that his parents will no longer pester him about an heir. The relationship of the newly weds was strained and cold at first; it was only when Digory was born did the Kirkes started to feel like a family and John’s urges to travel staggered to a brief halt. However, a sudden call to India rekindled his wanderlust and he immediately jumped on the opportunity to travel, leaving behind Mabel and Digory in the huge estate. During his time in India, Mabel fell ill and the news left John in a state of utter disarray. It was at that moment that he realized his love for his wife and son and he hurried home.
Years later, John is still enamored with travel and knowledge. He is now more considerate of his family however; it is just he often forgets them when a prospect to travel arises. Seemingly careless and aloof, John constantly leaves home but he takes extra measures to send gifts to his family, especially books to his son, Digory, who seem to share his great curiosity. He accidentally stumbles into Narnia while exploring the pyramids.

❝I don’t know what the doctor would say, but really - I almost feel as if I could.❞ (The Magician’s Nephew - C.S. Lewis)
Mrs. Ketterley died in childbirth with her last girl—Mabel. Mabel’s father died of old age soon after. In suit, she was embraced by one sibling and shunned by the other. Letitia became a mother figure in an instant and Andrew became a beloved shadow. Letty abandoned her years of education for her sister and Andrew fell deeper into his. Mabel had a maternal uncle named Chester who convinced Letitia to go back to her education and have him take Mabel in his care. He did not do this out of self-sacrifice, rather, he saw Mabel’s musical talents as an investment, and as a man of business he went hungrily for the opportunity. Little seven-year-old Mabel was enraptured with the dark-haired man who gave her lovely presents for her birthday, and when she found out he wanted her to live with him, she was thrilled with the idea of finally having a father. With great reluctance, Letitia gave up her sister with the promise to constantly send money and visit as often as possible.
After great struggles in her childhood, ranging between the physical abuse of her Uncle and becoming forcefully proficient in piano and song by the age of twelve, in her adolescences she was taken again under her older sister’s care and received a proper, yet basic, academic education. She still loved the arts and pursued them. Though she desired to become a nun in the Catholic church, she still played in grand recitals and eventually got a job as a guest pianist in a fancy restaurant. There is where she met Mr. Kirke, a wealthy man who worked overseas, when she was eighteen years old. When she was nineteen, she married him out of nothing less than love, and therefore threw away her ideas of becoming a nun.
After their marriage, they lived in a spacious estate in the country. Once she became a “Lady”, she gained fluency in the French language and also learned a German. She also read lots of Thoreau and Tozer along with fairytale stories. She was not merely an ornament on John’s arm when they went to social gatherings, she was, and is, a charming, yet surprisingly intelligent woman with a penchant to seek adventure.
When she turned twenty she had one son, Digory, who was her greatest delight and joy. When Digory was around twelve, Mabel contracted a chronic illness. The two temporarily moved back to London to live with Mabel’s sister while John was in India. It was expected during this time that Mabel was soon to die. In summer of 1900, Mabel was mysteriously healed. While bedridden, her son Digory brought her a magical, silver apple from Narnia which proved to do more for her than all her medicines. Doctors declared her recovery to be a miracle, and she shortly thereafter returned to her home with her son and her recently retired husband.

❝But of course you must understand that rules of that sort, however excellent they may be for little boys—and servants—and women—and even people in general, can’t possibly be expected to apply to profound students and great thinkers and sages. No, Digory. Men like me, who possess hidden wisdom, are freed from common rules just as we are cut off from common pleasures. Ours, my boy, is a high and lonely destiny.❞ (The Magician’s Nephew - C.S. Lewis)
Andrew Ketterley was the first man who stepped foot in Narnia and watches its creation. He is also Digory’s uncle, through his sister Mabel.
Andrew is a man who seeks importance and is not afraid of hurting other people to get it. He is extremely selfish and cruel, especially towards Digory. When in the presence of his superiors, he flatters and grovels; to anyone who is not his superior, he considers them usable and replaceable. However, when he is threatened, he loses his composure, panics, and falls apart. He also has a taste for the drink, which can hinder his usefulness in times of need.
“He was a curious and morbid man, a dangerous combination under any circumstances, but especially so in the presence of magic.” Andrew is obsessed by magic and the opportunities it will afford him for recognition. He is considered by others to be eccentric and slightly crazy because of his beliefs.
Throughout his life, Andrew is an incompetent man trying to measure up to a real man. Unlike the man he aspires to be, he never learned his lessons and never achieved greatness. As an old man, however, he became kinder and less selfish.

❝Get out of my house this moment, you shameless hussy, or I’ll send for the police.❞ (The Magician’s Nephew - C.S. Lewis)
Letitia Ketterley (better known as “Aunt Letty” to the community) is Digory Kirke’s aunt, sister to his mother and his uncle Andrew Ketterley. She is happily unmarried, and resides in a house in London with her brother, at which Digory stayed while his mother was ill. During Mabel’s sickness, she was her sister’s closet confident and dearest friend, and drew very close during that hard time. Little is known though of Letty’s young life, except as a result of conflicts in the family because of Mrs Lefay, she came to hate the practice of magic, and even stayed away from fairytale books.
She is known to be “a tough old lady”; strict but fair, and tolerant. She was seen mending a mattress all by herself on the floor, which was lucky, as she fell on it, after being thrown across the room by the evil witch-queen Jadis. Nonetheless, Jadis met her match in Aunt Letty, who takes her for a “shameless hussy” and a “dangerous lunatic.”

❝Every dog has it’s day. …doesn’t it?❞
Edward Ketterley is the cousin of Andrew, Letitia and Mabel Ketterley; and lives no-one-knows-exactly-where in London. He has an inferiority complex, and feels that he can buy his worth with money, which results in countless “Get Rich Quick” schemes and dragging multiple people down with him. How does he compensate for this? By being an abrasive stiff-necked rot to his family. When they were young, he constantly made fun of Mabel just for being a girl dreaming to become a concert pianist. Rather than being motivated by sexism, this is because Edward doesn’t want to be shown up by someone else. Still as much as he tries to cover for his insecurities he has no ability to hide his poor self esteem from everyone around him.
He feels like there will always be someone better than him, and that bothers him to bits. He even feels that Andrew outshines him when it comes to value. On top of that, he has to deal with John Kirke - the man that he feels never worked hard as hard as he does but still succeeds brilliantly. While being very jealous of his cousin’s husband, he can’t help but quietly admire him for his intellect.
The only two that he opens himself a little to is Mabel, the gentlest of her siblings. He also has a soft spot for his second cousin Digory, and never fails in bringing him a piece of toffee when he comes to visit. An only child with an imprisoned father and dead mother, he feels that the Ketterleys and Kirkes are the only family he’s got, so he is frequently seen at their home.
All and all, to summarize him in one word it would be “almost”. He’s not as clever as his family, but he sure is not stupid. He does well enough to get by and own a flat of his own, but he can never seem to win and get an estate he would love to have. He’s always just short of reaching his goal. He fails, but he keeps trying. He doesn’t believe in himself, he doesn’t think he can do it, but he still never gives up.

The quiet girl known as Naerwen is a great mystery to all of Narnia. She had been a thing of legend, of fairy tale, until she was awoken from her enchanted sleep. Nothing is known about her, other than she witnessed a terrible slaughter, committed by Jadis. She was the sole survivor, taken away to safety by Aslan. He then placed her under the spell. The poor girl is so traumatized that she never speaks, barely makes eye contact, and almost never smiles. As such, it was the Narnians who gave her the name Naerwen, meaning the sad one. Despite her obvious wounds, Naerwen is still a very kind and caring person. She is very emphatic to the pain of others and will do whatever she can to help.

Rough as they were, her fingertips traced the foreheads of all within her reach, for they were the stars to her much like she was the star to them.
Wisps for arms, they were nonetheless robust, unwavering like the stars, the moon, the willow tree bathed in the evening glow. They were the sustenance for the emancipated. They were the litter for the exhausted. Stars were on her fingertips, her lips, her eyes.
She was the night sky, and she embraced the world.

She was always so adventurous. Today she decided to walk around on her own through the forests. She had not told her sister where she was going, because she would have talked her out of it. As she walked along, she heard a noise and she stopped dead in the middle, slowly looking around. Perhaps bringing a weapon would have been a good idea, but of course, she hadn’t thought about it. Instead, she yelled: “Who’s there?”
Old, old paws came upon heather, their steps silent, their intentions but a breath which brushed against the greenery. Still, they chose to snap a dry twig. A greeting. A warning.
"Maugrim," came a voice rough against the ears, like ocean waves thrashing, consuming. "And you are?"
It was then a gray Wolf stepped into sight. With lax limbs, he sat on his hind legs, ears perked in wait for the human to make her move.

And where are you going?
[looking at herself in a full body mirror] What if it was just a food baby. What if they opened me and just found tacos, tacos, tacos.
Then we gonna need hot sauce.
[flips through grocery ads]
Sriracha good with you? On sale.
Siracha.
[contemplates hungrily] With hummus. An’ lots of garlic. And a coke.
[lifts up her shirt to the curve of her stomach and caresses her belly and the suddenly stops]
…
…the tacos aren’t agreeing with the siracha.
They want meat, huh? Meat. I bet you a five. They want meat.
