Lucia attempts to replace the old shawl she made her abuelita, only to learn that it's the memories, not the way it looks, that makes the old shawl so special.

Today she tells me she is really feeling my vintage vibe.  My authentic '70s granny skirt with a hand-crocheted tank is killer, if I do say so myself.  And I do.  Low-rise leather ankle boots.  Bright yellow silk flower in my hair.  Yeah, it's a look.

Marco and I watch as they bring six bamboo poles together and tie them at the top ends and extend them so the figure looks like a tiny stick house. They cover it with an ivory crochet bedspread that belonged to my Yeya's grandmother and looks like a beautiful spiderweb.

Crochet shows up a couple of times in The Shamshine Blind by Paz Pardo (2023):
